Daniel Maine from Virginia sends his “Balanced Capability” for today’s submission from Everyday Carry.

He writes:

Like many folks my EDC has changed over the years to be balanced for my personal needs and lifestyle. Weight, concealment, comfort, capability and practicality must all be balanced. For the foreseeable future, I think I have found that balance. All these items seem to fit in my regular clothing, fit under a relatively loose T-shirt, give me plenty of capability and utility, allow 21 rounds of 9mm for defense of myself and loved ones and still remains pretty comfortable! Good luck to all in finding what works for you!

There you have it.

A Kahr CM-9 in a Muddy River rig with two spare single-stack 9mm mags in a Ragnarock Leather pouch.  Carried on a “Bigfoot Gun Belts” gun belt.  Gotta love that name.  Bigfoot Gun Belts.

Folder, light, Swiss Army Knife for utility work.  Throw in a lighter and a watch for good measure.  Gee.  Almost perfection.

  1. Kahr CM 9 in case there is an event where it is taken as evidence. Easy to get another one just like it tomorrow morning.

    • Mr. Wu – My first handgun I named ‘Mr. Woo’. It was a Daewoo DP-51 in 9mm.

I liked to tell my gun buddies that when Mr. Woo spoke, it was in “Short, angry barks”…

  2. I pocket carry a CM9 when I wear shorts in the summer. It’s the smallest pistol I can still shoot ok. I also carry one of the +1 magazines in a DeSantis pocket magazine carrier.

I would not expect Glock like durability out of the CM9, but it is a good reliable pistol. Personally I think the Kahr triggers are under-rated. It’s the perfect pocket gun.

  3. Looks like good kit.

Good for him he can use OWB.

I have too much real estate without a cover garment for OWB.

  4. Today I open carried a 1911, I normaly carry concealed. I know it was just me but I felt like I was free ballin with the barn door open in a pair of hot pants. Kahrs are nice. Had one in 40 S&W. Guy says” Hey man can I borrow your Kahr, I wanna go see my girlfiend” but he lied. He went to her other boyfriends. the cops impounded my Kahr and wont give it back.

  5. Good carry. Kahrs are good pistols. Owned two or three over the years. Trigger reset is a bit slow for my taste. When this EDC was posted I wondered what all those bangs were. Then I saw there were two reloads and a light. I then realized that the bangs were the sound of those that believe you need neither heads exploding.

    • Why I do not need a flashlight or reload. I can see in the dark. and I never miss. ,,,,,Not,/ i dont need a flashlight because after living in the country this town seems lit up like an airport runway and I never travel very far so the chances of needing a reload are slim to none. Thinking about it in all actuality one box of shells(meat cleaver) would probably last me a life time of bad guy shootzing. But thats me and not you. If I was to travel around a bunch Id pack more bullshot just in cas I got into a gunm fight and had to throw more bullshot at them then they was throwing at me

      • Possum, you are the only person on the planet who doesn’t need a reload or a light. I acknowledge that. However, for us mere mortals…

  6. That’s not just a ‘folder’ that’s a Geber FAST- best inexpensive knife I’ve owned and the one that spends the most time on me. A good blade that keeps its edge with an excellent mechanism that, with a touch of practice, opens as you draw it out of a pocket (if you want it to). In that sense it’s faster to deploy than my autos and yet looks, as the post says, like a “folder”- the kind of thing that you get waved through lax security with and yet can replace fairly easily if lost. (yes, I like that knife).

    • I am glad you posted info regarding that knife, been trying to figure out WTF it was. Sounds interesting and I might just have to give one a try.

      • The first time I opened it pulling it out of my pocket was an accident and it was a bit of a shock but I quickly learned how it happened and how to make it happen every time (may work for right side pocket draw only, by putting pressure against the outside of the pocket as you draw it the little nub gets caught just enough to activate the assist open.

  7. Looks like all the bases are covered. Boy Scout knife vs. Multitool it a to each his own deal. I too like the Gerber FAST, although I carry my CRKT M16 99% of the time. The Gerber holds an excellent edge, but I prefer the slim profile of the CRKT, so I keep the Gerber in my wee EDC truck bag.
