Gallup released a story last week noting that 23% of Americans viewed illegal immigration as the nation’s biggest problem. Meanwhile, barely 1% of Americans mentioned “gun violence” or gun control as among our biggest national problems.

Here’s Gallup’s news release going into the weekend, released on Friday where it got minimal publicity.

New High in U.S. Say Immigration Most Important Problem

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Americans’ concern with immigration continues to be heightened, as 23% name it the most important problem facing the country. This is by one percentage point the highest Gallup has ever measured for the issue since it first began recording mentions of immigration in 1993.

Buried in the story under the breakdown of Gallup’s polling results: Gun control registered among barely 1% of respondents in June, just as it has each and every month thus far in 2019. One percent – and they round up .5% as 1%!

Clearly, these people who think gun control is the most important problem facing our country today must be somewhere out on the fringes of our society. In fact, six times as many folks pointed to crime and the criminal justice system failures – not guns – as our biggest problem.

Just how fringe is that 1% who are demanding gun control? Well, 6% of Americans think the Pentagon was damaged by a military cruise missile on September 11, 2001, not a jumbo jet. And 5-6% of Americans believe the moon landing was faked.

So, should it surprise anyone that a rally by a fringe presidential candidate in front of NRA headquarters calling for vast expansions in our gun control laws could only muster 18 supporters? Not really.

Not only is Swalwell polling at zero percent in Iowa, but somehow the media still treats his campaign as viable. Go figure.

Ditto for the campaigns of other gun control one(ish)-trick ponies including Kirsten Gillibrand and Bill DeBlasio, along with Cory Booker, John Hickenlooper, Julian Castro, and Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke.

In fact, if you add up the support for all of the above, they still don’t equal the 6% of Democrats who opted for “none of the above” to the twenty-three — count ’em — Dems currently running for the party’s nomination.

  1. Isn’t this also bad news for us gun nuts?

Personally, I don’t pretend guns/gun control is the most important issue before us, but I am quite convinced it is the most informative issue to gage our leadership by. A strong, undiluted belief in gun rights speaks to a visceral respect for individual liberty as well as faith in our fellow man. America simply cannot function without these crucial foundations.

    • “America simply cannot function without these crucial foundations.”

They are banking on it. Weaken the foundation, collapse the country, and then elect the next version of “Hope and Change” to replace it…

    • Maybe, maybe not. While guns may be a minor issue for gun owners and anti-gun owners alike, it’s highly possible that the scales could tilt in favor of pro-2A through the annoyance factor. Even though it’s not top priority, all this anti-gun push still registers like a burr under the saddle and gives us just one more reason to reject the Democrats in general, even if it is not specifically for anti-gun crap. The benefit is not reversible– the anti-gunners will vote D no matter what, so all the bullshit does nothing to enhance the D position. It only erodes it.

  2. The biggest threat to the 2ndA, and the rest is the so-called education system. The education of our nations youth has been in the hands of commies since the 1960’s.
If you are a parent, and believe in the Constitution and bill of rights, you should demand civics be mandatory in K-12. The constitution can not live on unless it is TAUGHT. Do it at home if necessary. A copy of the constitution and bill of rights, along with a copy of the Federalist papers, is all that is needed. Pretty cheap to keep America free.

    • It is necessary to live it in the home. Unless your young’un are moron’s they will figure out the BS of the gov’t schools and lying MSM.

Hillsdale College is a great option for a REAL college. They have a bunch of free online courses (this is their outreach mission). Hillsdale is a great institution. ONLY college in the US that doesn’t take $ from the fed govt. My kids all headed for STEM (real) degrees so not the place for them but if you kid is looking for a classical “liberal” arts degree (vs a new age liberal BS degree) Hillsdale would a great destination,

Hillsdale also has a great free monthly magazine “IMPRIMIS” Great 15min read on stuff you need to know.
      https://imprimis.hillsdale.edu/

      https://online.hillsdale.edu/course/con101/schedule

      • When I went to high school (mid-1970’s), we considered anything put forth by the educational system as suspected propaganda.

The Federal Government was the huge military industrial complex and (as George Carlin used to say) the two middle letters in the word industry are US.

If I were to choose a college today, it would be Hillsdale.

        • I graduated in 1969 and already knew we were being fed crap. Even in a very rural town in northern Minn. My senior class was 15 people. Our social studies and American history classes were taught by a Jordanian, from the Israeli conquered West Bank.
The man was very pro USA (I know, hard to believe) and gave us a view of the world not seen in most schools. He also was Oxford educated, not US.

        • I also graduated in ’69. It took most of my college career to figure out everything they taught me in high school was crap.

It took me several years out in the real world to figure out everything they taught me in college was crap.

Now I just raise my own food and try not to think about all that wasted time.

  3. Yes there are bigger problems then gunm control. However gunm control is a big problem. Efficient muzzle brakes help, but nothing beats a good trigger. Here lately the triggers on these new rifles ain’t been so whoopee. And that’s what happens when lawyers win lawsuits.. No more hot coffee from Mickey D’s, no more break like glass triggers from Winchester.

  4. And measles doesn’t even register, yet state after state is introducing mandatory vaccine laws for school children, and make no mistake, adults are next.

      • Well, one trick he has so far been completely unable to pull off. He is still unable to figure out the 6 letter word for a firearm’s dangerous end. I later added: “It starts with “M”. Still nothing. It would appear that he is either unable to read, or badly mentally handicapped. Vlad and DD were also unable to answer this simplest of all possible gun questions.
All sock puppets with one puppet master? We ALL get to be the judge of that.

        • The “M” word pgvlad. Say the “M” word or nobody will ever read a word you post ever again.
Not that that will stop your bloomberg paycheck, but you KNOW he won’t keep you on this cushy task once you prove how stupidly ineffective you are. He will throw you under the bus in an instant, once you cease to be useful. You know it better than I, insider and all.
Better redouble your efforts. Quickly. Your time is drawing short…

        • Newsflash troll bot…..you can troll me all day, every day. And being a program, you likely will.

      • If you mean that by recognizing that what’s left our individual freedoms is in grave danger is a one trick pony, then sure, then sure, that’s an accurate statement.

        • Who let the troll bots out….? Funny stuff. Every troll post you make you will make that more transparent.

        • Hoo–wee!! There’s my little dumplin’!

You tell ’em, sweetie. I don’t want anyone sayin’ anything rough to my precious little snowflake. Your delicate skin just can’t handle the stress, and you need to keep them pimples under control.

What do you say we drive into town and get us some nice ice cream to bring back to the trailer park for one of our chat sessions while we watch Steel Magnolias again? You love that movie, and Momma loves to see you happy.

Guns…sheesh! They don’t know what they’s talkin’ about, which is why they need my boopskie to tell ’em what’s real. If they call you mean names again, just call down the hallway for me again and I’ll yell at them for ya.

        • interesting troll bot post momma…..same programmer as Vlad and knute? No shortage of troll bot posts on this forum.

        • That one was a one-off for a special occasion.

If it’s needed in the future, it could make a triumphant return…

          *snicker* 😉

    • In 1980 measles killed 2.6 million people. Thanks to the vaccine that’s been reduced to 73,000 as of 2014, but now they’re on the way back up. While I agree that nobody should be compelled by the government to put anything in their body that they don’t want, you should really study up on the diseases the vaccines prevent. Measles is still a huge killer, and the one study that linked the vaccine to autism has been thoroughly debunked.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Measles

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Measles_vaccine#Adverse_effects

      • Measles is not a killer in a developed world. Many things are killers in the 3rd world, including common diarrhea. BTW, don’t use Wikipedia links for scientific citations, it makes you look foolish…unless you’re citing something from pop culture, tv, etc…..

        • “common diarrhea” meaning full-on dysentery, no doubt. God you guys are insufferable. I take it you guys don’t believe in antibiotics, too? They’re just as much a “conspiracy” as immunizations, honestly more so, since docs won’t proscribe the best ones except as a last resort.

If gun control meant preventing people from firing bullets wildly in all directions at all hours of the day, then I suppose you could draw a parallel to immunization laws.

Would you similarly oppose quarantine laws, like we used to have before vaccines, but hardly ever see anymore? We simply don’t see those because we are so much cleaner now, right? Wal-Mart grocery carts are the proof, after all, lol.

        • I’ll bet you DO know a seven letter word for “jab” that starts with a “V” though, don’t you vlad?
          🙂

        • ‘Measles is not a killer in a developed world.’ – HA! Yuh think? Why do you suppose that would be? Maybe the fact that the developed world is vaccinated?

And those Wikipedia links were fully source cited, so if anything it makes people who dismiss them without investigating their merits look dumb.

        • Quarantine works, and works well. It is historically documented quarantine stopped smallpox, the smallpox vaccine killed more people than than the disease itself. Antibiotics are a non-sequitur in this discussion.

        • gov, responded below, even middle schools and high schools don’t accept wikipedia as references…but you’ll insist its valid…funny stuff.

        • “Measles is not a killer in a developed world.”

Because in the ‘developed world’, vaccination is *required*, and not optional.

Stop dragging the rest of us down to third-world health standards…

        • Common diarrhea? Do you know how and why it kills someone? Because the shit they eat is infected with bacteria and so is their water. They live in unclean disease ridden environments and the constant liquid bowel movements dehydrates them and robs their body of nourishment it needs to build an immune system. So yes, vaccines and modern technology with even something as simple as washing their hands and ways to eat clean instead of using the same pond they dump shit water in could stop those 3rd world countries you are referring to from dying of diarrhea. You seem to be dying of verbal diarrhea. Check it. Grow up and stop being an angry douche. Learn to shut your mouth and keep your opinions to yourself. You are not changing anything by ranting like a fool on off topic comment sections. You only look immature and argumentative. Fucken troll. Go outside. This coming from someone who doesn’t get common vaccines, but will definitely get ones for major diseases. See, find the balance. Otherwise, travel to those countries and see first hand for yourself, without getting shots, and good luck.

        • gov., looked at your links, the first is a mystery, maybe you can explain its relevance to this conversation? The next 2 links state the science has not been done to determine vaccine safety. Maybe you didn’t read the papers and the authors conclusions? Funny stuff when someone posts something that actually supports the opposing argument. I’ll check back for last 2, cant wait to see what they say.

        • ‘Quarantine works…’ – Absolutely. As I said above, I don’t believe anybody should be compelled by the state to put something they don’t want in their veins. However, the flip side is that the government is charged with public safety, so if you or your kid gets exposed to the measles then the government can and should force you into quarantine, which is essentially temporary incarceration. If you’re willing to comply you should have every right to decline a vaccine for yourself and your children.

‘…even middle schools and high schools don’t accept wikipedia as references…’ – Maybe I missed something here but I can’t find a single source you’ve produced to back your claims, so I’d say a fully source cited article in Wikipedia is a lot more reliable than the rantings of some guy in the comment section of a blog site.

        • Gov, ask your kids (if you have any) if their schools accept wikipedia as a citation/reference. They don’t, I’ll save you the time.

        • LMFAO! You went from posting Wikipedia to posting a search engine…….hard to argue with your level of ignorance. Your previous links actually backed my position…have you already forgotten this?

        • The thing I don’t get Pg, is you seem less interested in proselytizing than just convincing everyone you’re a cook. You have to accept that your opinion is a fringe one and that people will at least initially be skeptical. And I can sympathize personally because a lot of people disagree with my pro anthropogenic global warming stance. But when people express their opposing points of view, instead of explaining why they are mistaken you berate them. All the while never producing a shred of evidence that you’re right and everyone else is wrong.

And BTW, I’m probably about the closest thing you have to an ally around here on this one, because I at least agree on individual liberty terms that you shouldn’t be compelled by the government to be vaccinated or to have your children vaccinated. Even if you are a cook.

    • I’m with PG2 on this, In away. I see vaccines as creating a weaker species. Measles? Though, when I was a kid seems like everybody got the measles,Chibken Pox too. Now I’m not saying the Polio vaccine didn’t work, can’t say it did., I just think that by saving the “me” I’m killing the “us” , as in the human species. . . . hmm The World Without Us, not a bad place at all teaaly

      • I never had measles or chicken pox because I had the full course of vaccinations. And I was annoyed because I never had the 10 days off school those kids who had the diseases did.

      • Some truth in your post whether you intended or not…

In the first 6 years of life your child in the USA receives the following in the vaccine schedule:
        • 17,500 mcg 2-phenoxyethanol (antifreeze)
        • 5,700 mcg aluminum (a known neurotoxin)
        • Unknown amounts of fetal bovine serum (aborted cow blood)
        • 801.6 mcg formaldehyde (carcinogen, embalming agent)
        • 23,250 mcg gelatin (ground up animal carcasses)
        • 500 mcg human albumin (human blood)
        • 760 mcg of monosodium L-glutamate (causes obesity & diabetis)
        • Unknown amounts of MRC-5 cells (aborted human babies)
        • Over 10 mcg neomycin (antibiotic)
        • Over 0.075 mcg polymyxin B (antibiotic)
        • Over 560 mcg polysorbate 80 (carcinogen)
        • 116 mcg potassium chloride (used in lethal injection to shut down the heart and stop breathing)
        • 188 mcg potassium phosphate (liquid fertilizer agent)
        • 260 mcg sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)
        • 70 mcg sodium borate (Borax, used for cockroach control)
        • 54,100 mcg of sodium chloride (table salt)
        • Unknown amounts of sodium citrate (food additive)
        • Unknown amounts of sodium hydroxide (Danger! Corrosive)
        • 2,800 mcg sodium phosphate (toxic to any organism)
        • Unknown amounts of sodium phosphate monobasic monohydrate (toxic to any organism)
        • 32,000 mcg sorbitol (Not to be injected)
        • 0.6 mcg streptomycin (antibiotic)
        • Over 40,000 mcg sucrose (cane sugar)
        • 35,000 mcg yeast protein (fungus)
        • 5,000 mcg urea (metabolic waste from human urine)
        • Other chemical residuals

If you can provide the science that shows this makes a healthier child, you’re a Nobel candidate.

        • Might not be good for you but you get most of the listed stuff in your regular diet. The units you indicated are micrograms (mcg). You don’t want to know what else is in regular food.

I don’t know why but “Over 40,000 mcg (.00812 of a teaspoon) sucrose (cane sugar)” caused me to immediately think of a cop with that deadly weapon in his hand (a sugar covered donut).

        • Injected aluminum and fetal DNA part of a normal childhood diet? Okidokee. You do also know the difference between injected and ingested?

    • Hey pg,

Ever traveled to a foreign country? Or even to somewhere off the continent?

Getting vaccinated before you travel is a very good idea that could save thousands of dollars in medical bills.

One of my employers sent me to Indonesia for a task at a mine site. Not only was I required to have a special region specific set of vaccinations but the company also paid for them.

An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure.

      • Obviously, anyone who has so anti vaccine they can turn a gun control issue into their hatred for vaccines, has never been outside a hundred mile radius of their hospital bed.

I get it… vaccines are not trustworthy and have side effects. When I was in the army, they loaded up on em. Personally, I’d rather be protected from diseases like the measles, mumps, black plague, anthrax, etc etc…. but when it comes to the flu shot… no thanks. Eat healthy, live healthy, build your immune system. But acting like vaccines are killing people? It’s quite the opposite. Dead babies all over poor countries would have chosen to be vaccinated had they been given the opportunity, that much I have seen first hand. People like PG2 are just one track mind and ranters. Do not take them seriously. They are the 1% crowd of their own issues.

        • Not anti vaccine at all. Pro science. The science is not behind vaccines, the laws attempting to mandate these products with a growing number of people learning the truth behind the lack of vaccine safety and efficacy and increasingly rejecting these products is proof of of this. Like the truth, you don’t need laws to protect it.

        • “was in the army” is not a great example or defense. Considerable “evidence” that the maladies from post Desert Shield burn pits is actually caused by all the shots they stacked (untested combination). Including MS developing on otherwise low risk vets. Don’t though, worry the VA is on the job.

        • “Not anti vaccine at all.”

Bullshit. That’s the same card the grabbers play when they say ‘Nobody’s coming to take your guns”.

So, tell me – What vaccines do you consider ‘safe’?

        • That’s a question you need to answer. If you want to claim vaccine safety, provide the evidence. Not up to me to prove your point. And comparing people wanting to prevent the government from having the legal authority to inject any product the CDC recommends into the public to gun grabbers is beyond stupid.

    • The only reason vaccine laws are here is because there’s thousands of diseased people coming across the border. A bunch of un-vaccinated people was never a problem until a bunch of un-vaccinated people with measles, lice, fleas, TB, scabies came to town. Yuma sector of of the Border Patrol spent $700,000 on medical care for 1,700 migrants who were sent to hospitals. Children have diseases not seen in modern American society. (cis.org) Center for Immigration Studies, March 13, 2019, author Andrew R. Arthur. I’m not anti vaccine. I’m just very pro hygiene/sanitation.

  5. At first i thought, hmmm maybe most Americans see past the gun control BS from the news media. But then I wonder if the gallop poll results are data worth considering.

    • Good point. Gallups BS is typically as worthless as the BS in a novellete by Chistopher Steele. We can’t really accept the ones we might like when everything they write is drivel. Hypocrisy if for progs.

  6. Maybe Major Kong should switch to global warming. That would double his support.

He’s stuck in Licoln Chafee – metric system territory now.

  7. Not every one in this nation is of the Marxist totalitarian mind bent and that pisses of those who are.

  8. Governor we’ve had 1000 reported cases this year alone…how many deaths? Even before the vaccine program the measles death rate was somewhere between 1/10,000 and 1/500,000. How many MMR vaccine deaths reported to VAERS in the last 10 years?

  9. Here’s a gem for the statist, lefty trolls here pretending to support the Bill of Rights…

    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/06/12/democrats-introduce-bill-allowing-gun-crime-victims-to-sue-firearm-makers/

“They want our guns …Wouldn’t it be nice if they were worried about our children ? How about introducing bills so we can sue the vaccine manufacturer and repeal the 1986 National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act” -Facebook mom poster who cares and understands more about our rights than the statist trolls who intentionally pollute this forum.

  10. The problem is that we live in the media age, which allows that 1% to solely focus on those stories and articles pertaining to their beliefs, and that is why they do what they do. It’s like the women’s march when trump got elected. Sure, thousands of feminists showed up to block traffic and annoy people who live there, but hundreds of millions continued their daily life and did not support them. The media prints a story, and the simple minded then see that 1% as a majority.

    • BD, I heard the same about the Kent State shooting/riot. I was to young to know much, but I remember it being the biggest thing in the news EVER, (as seen from a young kids eyes) Years later, I asked someone who was there, who said: “I don’t know, I was in class or at the library like most of us”.

  11. Send Sen. Selwell on a mission to Iran. He likes to threaten Nuclear Destruction to those who refuse weapon bans!

  12. Hmm? I remember when this site was about guns, not a debating society over every other controversial subject of the day. Any chance we could actually return to the subject of firearms?
