The anti-gun left attacks gun rights in ways they won’t challenge free speech, religion or voting rights. Yet.

I am struck again this week by how nowhere is the left/media’s insularity from average America, and ignorance (or purposeful misstatement) of a topic, more on display than when it comes to the issue of guns.

If you are going to cheer taking away gun rights, at least acknowledge you are messing with a constitutional right on par with freedom of religion, voting, free speech, privacy. And treat that with the gravity it deserves, rather than suggesting opponents are just a problem.

Especially if you are simultaneously going to suggest it is beyond the pale to address mental health laws or state involuntary commitment laws, or require treatment for dangerous people. Just have some consistency.

If you are going to suggest that “universal” background checks will stop the next mass murder, you should have to provide evidence such checks would have stopped prior ones. And we all know that is not the case.

  1. It amazes me the same people who call trump a fascist, a nazi, or hitler are the same people demanding he implement gun control measures. I am pretty sure if I knew a leader was on par with hitler I would not be asking him to take away my right to own an “assault weapon” and give him the right to tell me if I can own a gun later on. If you are on the right Clinton seemed tamed in comparison to Obama. If you are on the left Trump makes GW Bush look tame. Even if Trump has no ill intent in his heart the question must be asked, on both sides of the aisle, what about the next guy that makes trump/Obama look tame.

  2. “he anti-gun left attacks gun rights in ways they won’t challenge free speech, religion or voting rights. Yet.”

    where have you been?

College Campuses, the nurseries of the Socialists and Marxists have first shutdown
the natural right of self-defense through the use of firearms.
Then they shutdown a persons right to express their Judeo-Christian religion.
Now that the students are disarmed and defenseless agains violent attacks,
the campuses have shutdown the right to Free Speech.

Also there has been much talk of lowering the voting age TO SIXTEEN
where the brains of the little tadpoles have not developed into
mature thinking machines and are still under the
spell of indoctrination of those Socialists Liberals.

    • At this point the wife and I are going to home school. Even if we miss out on a lot of potential income the ability to let our kids sidestep being set up for failure will be far more valuable and easier to live with.

    • Judeo-Christianity is a cultural Marxist deception. It is just Christianity. You’ll notice that phrase came into being about the same time all of the communists fleeing the USSR came to infest the universities.

      • Exactly! Thank you for pointing out that the Bolsheviks have been with us undermining our
constitution, and value systems for more than 100 years now.

These are the very people who have gone purple in the face accusing others of ‘working with the Russians’, and are constantly calling anyone who does not agree with their anti-american, antii-constitutional communist Bolshevik agenda every vile name for what they themselves practice every day , “racists, white supremacists, white natiolnalists, nazis, fascists”, the list grows constantly.

This is who now controls the new radical left Bolshevist Democrat party. These are nothing other than Communist Fascist revolutionaries who seek to take down our constitutional republic, and don’t intend to stop or back down until they have done so.

To understand what this means, one need only look at North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela, the now defunct USSR, and every other god forsaken, tin pan, communist sh*t hole that ever existed on the face of the earth.

        • They’re mostly “useful idiots

It’s amazing how meme ideas so long ago planted n lightly stewarded, flourish, spread, and infect even so.

      • Um, please clarify, Dan. The term ‘Judeo-Christian’ means ‘modern Christian values that have their roots in the First Century Church, which itself had its roots in Mosaic and Davidic Jewish culture’.

Please explain how this is suddenly a modern Marxist ideology.

    • Maybe it’ll just be a ban on giving full auto AKs to jihadis on the American taxpayer’s dime. All I can say is, f*ck!

    • He’s up for re-election this year, no? Maybe a young fresh face strong 2A person will come forward. We need to get the young involved. The old folks are singing with the choir echo chamber.

    • Background checks, background checks, background checks. Say it with me everyone! Background checks! Tell me again, how many of these mass shootings would have been stopped by background checks? How many of these turds had a background check before taking possession of their weapon? How many had a significant lapse of time from when they made their purchase, until they decided to shoot people? How many of them had significant issues growing up that were fairly well known, but people took no action, or even attempted to to not highlight their problems, violent tendencies, and abnormal behavior? How many of them had a government bureaucrat absolutely fail at their job which enabled them to murder large amounts of people?

These are some uncomfortable questions I would love the senate to discuss way before they discuss trying to a large portion of the population into insta-criminals.

  3. “The anti-gun left attacks gun rights in ways they won’t challenge free speech, religion or voting rights.” Yang has stated that if he were elected President he would appoint a free speech Czar that would have the power to arrest journalists. In other words, if they say something he does not like he will have them jailed.

  4. Anyone who thinks democrats will be reasonable in any way on gun control is fooling themselves.
It has to do with reason – but their reasons are the End Justifies the Means. The “End” goal is to completely eliminate anyone who disagrees with their radical agenda – that means you.
The hate speech towards conservatives and the censorship of conservatives on social media is just the tip of the iceberg. Conservatives are being demonized and sidelined much like a people group in WWII Germany, and the genocide is what’s planned next. That’s just a lot easier to accomplish if your opponent is disarmed.

  5. The best way I have seen to deal with this gun control expansion is for us gun owners to call our senators and representatives. When they get so many negative calls that it jams up the phones everyday then they will back off. it’s worked many times. Do not expect the organizations like NRA, SAF, GOA etc. to carry the ball by themselves. Call, call ,call and overload them with messages to not infringe on the constitution anymore. Don’t forget the Whitehouse either.

    • There’s a chance that if you call your Congresscritter to oppose Red Flag and AWB, your name will go on his/her s***list for future Red Flag action.

Example: my house was magically teleported into the James Clyburn (D – Idiot) 6th District of South Carolina through gerrymandering. He is notorious for ignoring white constituents in his majority black district and is wildly in favor of bans & confiscations as a means of disarming them.

      Yeah, I said it.

  6. Our cultural masters just release a movie named The Hunt which is about elite leftists hunting people they disagree with. Just imagine if conservatives were hunting antifa or other progressive icons.

  7. “I am the biggest Second Amendment person there is” — Donald J. Trump
this is like that time you find out you’ve been using the metric side and everyone else was using inches, hope he figures it out soon…

  8. Expressing conservative beliefs on campus or in your everyday life is now something people avoid or pay a cost for doing so. Ditto the workplace where people ought to just concentrate on their jobs, but the left doesn’t have any problem there either, but if you are conservative, you better keep your mouth shut.

  9. Here in Washington State effective July 1 2019 we now have I-1639 which restricts purchases of pistols/handguns and any semi auto rifle which are now considered “Assault Rifles” and yes this includes a simple 10/22. This also requires a mandatory training firearms safety class and signing a waiver and release of your medical records, which is direct violation of HIPPA medical laws. and then there is a waiting period until you can actually pick it up even with a CCW.
So I can easily by pass 1639 by purchasing a complete AR15 lower, yes have to have a backround check because this is the serialized portion /part of a firearm, however walk out with the lower that day because it’s not a complete firearm. Then walk back into the store and buy a complete Upper assembly Put the two pins in and have a complete AR without violating any law. 1639 is ridiculous.

    • Release medical records???? How did that get passed? You’re right, that’s not supposed to happen with HIPPA law. Tho, we know the HIPPA law was passed to keep parents/family from knowing that their child had AIDS, and discrimination against anyone with AIDS. You can’t get any health information on your kid in college today….unless your kid signs a paper giving you ‘permission to know”. He/she could be dead before they let you know!

      • Please, it’s HIPAA. Look it up. We rightfully doubt the credibility of the antis when they get the gun technology stuff wrong, so let’s be careful with our use of socio-political terms.

  10. The left knows that it an attack on the Constitution and if they can the “common” man to support them attacking the Second that will put them in position to attack amendments and original Articles and Sections. They are already attacking the First with this scummy End Citizens United organization supposedly fighting big money and business money in politics but they mention nothing about that wrinkled faced Soros. The word Hypocrite seems not to be their dictionary.

  12. There is a lesson here for all of us PotG. How do we best make our point?

Much of what we read in blogs such as this TTAG is that every law with the word “gun” is unconstitutional. So, for example, the law requiring manufacturers to engrave their maker’s mark and a serial number is an “infringement” on a par with confiscation. Such argument makes our point seem frivolous.

Why reach for the stars when we could reach for the low-hanging fruit? (Answer: because we PotG can’t think strategically).

We should ask, instead: Why is it that a billionaire real estate developer (with his full-time bodyguard) can get a NYC carry permit; while – at the same time – a female immigrant (with green card) who walked the streets and rode the subways to/from her modeling gigs would NEVER be issued a NYC carry permit? What’s wrong with this picture.

Likewise, that same billionaire doesn’t need a carry permit while living – temporarily – in public housing; whereas, that same immigrant model would is the only (qualified) woman in that city who would NEVER be issued a carry permit? What’s wrong with this picture?

Exactly what objection do the gun-controllers have for issuing this woman a carry permit on a Shall-Issue basis? Isn’t it obvious that there are incomprehensible violations of the 2A here?

If – and this is the trick – we can get people to start to question the May-Issue gun control laws as they affect defenseless women then we might be able to start a sympathetic discussion among voters about what the right to arms really means.

We should never expect a majority of voters to acquiesce to the right of the People to keep nuclear bombs. However, if we can’t get them to be open minded about Shall-Issue then we can’t make any political progress at all.

    • Think strategically? Dude, we’ve got people on TTAG, a shocking number really, who think that not breaking the law is grounds for being arrested. Some even say they’d shoot you for not threatening them.

  13. I have been saying this for years. It is like opening Pandora’s box.

Limits put on the second will be used as a reason to put restrictions on others that the current attackers support.

The stupidity and lack of ability of these people to look toward the future and the effects this could have on amendments they hold near and dear is dumbfounding.

  14. Tell it to dumpster who with other republicans is about to deep six gun rights. You are getting what you voted for.

  15. This has been said by smarter people than me, but is worth repeating.
A handful of crazies use firearms to commit heinous crimes and the democrats want to disarm all law-abiding gun owners.
Hundreds of illegal aliens commit crimes of all types (murder, rape, theft, burglary, robbery, DUI, etc) and the democrats want to give them US citizenship, the right to vote, and welfare benefits out the ying-yang.

Ask your democrat friends about this.

  16. Some Good News:
New Hampshire governor vetoes 3 gun control bills

    4:03 pm
    August 9, 2019

National news from the Associated Press

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Republican Gov. Chris Sununu vetoed three gun control bills Friday, saying New Hampshire is one of the safest states in the nation that has a long and proud “tradition of responsible firearm stewardship.”

The bills passed by the Democratic-controlled Legislature included background checks for commercial firearms sales, imposing a waiting period between the purchase and delivery of a firearm, and prohibiting firearms on school property.

The vetoes, coming days after two mass shootings in Texas and Ohio, were expected; Sununu had said he wasn’t looking to make any changes to existing gun laws.

“Our focus as a nation must be on addressing the root causes of hate and violence,” Sununu wrote. “Here in New Hampshire, we have taken multiple steps to address our mental health needs and to build a more welcoming and tolerant state. From the school safety task force, to rebuilding our state’s mental health system, including the largest investment of resources in decades, to establishing the Governor’s Advisory Council on Diversity and Inclusion, and to establishing the state’s first Civil Rights Unit to step up prosecution of hate crimes, we are taking major steps to ensure the safety of our citizens is paramount.”

Sununu said the bills would not solve national issues or prevent evil individuals from doing harm, “but they would further restrict the constitutional rights of law abiding New Hampshire citizens.”

None of the bills had passed the Legislature with enough votes to override a veto.

Legislators had approved a compromise version of a bill that would ban most guns from school grounds. Only police, members of the military or those authorized by school boards would be allowed to carry guns onto school property. Parents picking up their children would have to leave their guns in their cars.

The other bills imposed a three-day waiting period between the purchase and delivery of a gun and to require background checks for all firearms sales or transfers.

Democrats expressed disappointment and frustration Friday.

“Since there have been more mass shootings than days this year, our thoughts and prayers are empty gestures without the courage and conviction to act to prevent future tragedies,” Senate President Donna Soucy said in a statement. “That’s why it is so deeply disappointing that in the midst of a national crisis and in the wake of two mass shootings, Governor Sununu is holding New Hampshire back from making progress on gun violence prevention with his vetoes of three common sense public safety bills, including background checks — which 90% of Americans support.”

Dozens of supporters of the bills rallied in Concord earlier in the week, insisting the bills would ensure schools and communities are safer. Their rally came just days after two mass shootings over the weekend in Texas and Ohio. Several opponents who came to the rally argued the bills were unnecessary since the state has such a low murder rate. Others warned the bills would threaten resident’s 2nd Amendment rights.

  17. How about the deal maker in chief makes a deal. A robust background check system using modern technology to make it instant. This could cover all guns making the NFA obsolete.

Modern back ground checks for repeal of the NFA sounds like a deal to me.

  18. Government by instant popularity contest, advocated by people who have, apparently, always agreed with the results on American Idol

  19. It would be so easy to end the war on guns if there wasn’t so many traitors in America.
All state and federal officials must take a oath of office to the constitution of the United States of America,to violate the constitution is violating that oath by Waring against the constitution, which is PERJURY,PERJURY is treason and a felony under state and federal law. Any state or federal official wars against the constitution and commits PERJURY becomes a TRESSPASSER of their office they have no jurisdiction or authority whatsoever, their office officially stands empty.

    Title 5 U.S.C. section 3333
    Title 5 U.S.C. section 7311
    Title 18 U.S.C. section 1918

They are also guilty under title 18 U.S.C. section 241 CONSPIRACY AGAINST RIGHTS
And Title 18 U.S.C. section 242 Deprivation of rights under color of law.
Under the law any politician who writes anti weapons laws or bans or votes for anti weapons laws or bans can be immediately removed from their office and arrested their authority is void.
Any judge who enforces any weapons laws can immediately be removed and arrested their authority is void.
Any law enforcement officer who enforces any weapons laws or bans they can be removed and arrested their authority and jurisdiction is null and void.
    End of gun control debate.

  20. kdebate.know this the second that they illegally destroy the second amendment know that every right you have will vanish almost immediately after it. There will be no more women’s rights, gay rights, abortion rights, free speech, free press, property rights, there will be no right to present your grievances. There will only be federal and States RIGHTS to comply or they drag you into the streets line you up and shut you up to set an example for the rest to comply or die. The 2nd amendment is the only thing keeping the treasonous corrupt traitors at bay.

  21. The state’s and federal government hate the 2nd amendment because of four simple words “shall not be infringed”.
Because of these four words the second amendment cannot be amended,or removed.

Red flag laws are illegal because they violate the constitution, they are null and void.

  22. The second amendment does not say the right of the malitia to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed,
It explicitly States the right of the “people”to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

    Shall not be infringed means,
Shall not be taken away or removed,
    Shall not be limited,
    Shall not be violated.
All weapons laws are an infringement to the 2nd amendment and we the people.

  23. The second amendment is not given by state or federal government.
It is a human right given by God, for all the atheists it is a right given by nature by birth.
