“No common-sense gun legislation is coming. We’re all doing the equivalent of letting you drink strychnine at church, and, for some reason, also letting you stop us from keeping strychnine out of the drinking water we all have to use, because that someone would infringe upon your rights.

“So, gun owners, it’s on you. You need to fix gun culture. You claim you have your guns so that you can save us from tyranny or commies or bad guys or whatever. Well, now’s your chance. Save us.

  1. “…You claim you have your guns so that you can save us from ”

    No.

I have guns so that I can save myself from.

If my saving myself also saves you then your welcome.

    • Exactly. I’m not their personal guard, the fact that criminals are more hesitant to be criminals because so many people are armed in free states is a byproduct. Nothing more.

    • If you’re getting attacked etc. I will call 911.
I’m not going to play Wonder Woman for you. Heck, you’d probably sue me for “using too much force” against the bad guy.

  2. Part of “fixing yourself” would have to include not finding it necessary to tell others what to do…

  3. Really??? No common sense legislation huh?? Seems to me we tried this already, we’ve tried telling you to let teachers pack. You shot us down out of hand. We tried saying put metal detectors and more police in schools, you balked at the cost. We gave you the AWB, the GCA, and myriad other laws already on the books, still the killing continues unabated. You won’t admit your “common sense” laws have failed and cost many more lives than they’ve saved and yet, you have the audacity to tell us to fix ourselves? You have the nerve to tell us that we need to reconcile ourselves to giving up more freedom so you can pass more “common sense” laws that will do a grand total of nothing to stop the killing? Why should we sacrifice our freedoms and possessions? Why should we expose ourselves to even more burdensome regulations on enjoying our hobby when we’ve already given so much up to your “common sense” laws that do nothing to prevent massacres?

Ma’am with all due respect, we’re sick and tired of giving in and watching these massacres happen, now we’d like a chance to do something to actually stop them sooner or deter them altogether. You can claim it’s all for the children all you want, but we both know better. You haven’t said jack about the hundreds of thousands of suicides, traffic fatalities, and myriad other causes of teen mortality that don’t involve firearms. Yet, here you are spouting off about guns. I have an idea, how about you work with us in helping minimize all those other causes of teen mortality that take many more lives than guns and then we’ll talk about the guns afterward?

    • Insert Citizen Kane clapping meme here………………………..
      You nailed it sir.
TTAG’s response winner of the day, perhaps month, and year as well!
OORAH! The fight for real justice continues!

    • In the eyes of progressives the reason why their “common sense” laws didn’t work is because they didn’t go far enough and were not punitive enough.

  4. She wouldn’t let us “fix” ourselves! 2nd Amendment all the time, everywhere, no restrictions unless you’ve been convicted of a violent crime or have been adjudicated mentally unfit and dangerous. Everything else will sort itself out.

    • All second amendment all the time unless you are currently incarcerated.

      There fixed it for you.
If you have been convicted of a violent crime or found to be mentally unfit you should not be in public. Full stop.

  5. You want us to fix what’s wrong with the cultures that are generating school shooters and inner-city violence.

Riiiight. You will not like some of the *ahem* more effective approaches; in fact, you and those like you are primary reasons why America has abandoned some of the milder ones in the first place.

  6. The problem is not enough firepower available to us gun owners. The mass shootings will all end as soon as we get national reciprocity, suppressors, and fully automatic weapons.

In 10 years we can review the results. If it has not proven effective, then obviously it just hasn’t been enacted long enough to make an appreciable difference. That’s exactly what they told us about the Brady bill.

  7. Nothing to “fix”…except making it easier to carry everywhere and repeal all the BS laws. Shall not be infringed. SIMPLE..

  8. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you identify a leftist from the rest of us. Where does the fault lie: with the group (society, some hierarchy, etc.) or with the individual?

This perspective enables nominally intelligent people to conclude that the fault of any individual misuse of a firearm lies with the universe of all gun owners.

  9. Obviously this woman, representative of the statist, has trouble performing a “root cause” analysis of a cultural and spiritual problem, common to human history, and severe in our very statist country. Now, we have many many gun laws, and they’re not effective at reducing violent crime because by definition, many of th ese “laws” pertaining only to the possession and carrying of arms per se, affect only peaceful people. Licenses to carry, bans on possession at bars or schools, or bans on new automatic weapons by their very nature only hurt peaceful people. The suppressor regulations, only hurt our ears. The law is meant to deter and punish wrong doers, something that most people never understand. If you are willing to maim or kill another person, not in necessary self defense, are you going to obey a gun law? Is our society going to be safer with a lot of people like that, even if guns were never invented? Look at the middle ages. Look at London today. No, she can ESAD. As can controllers of all stripes; Trump, Sessions, Obama, the GOP, etc, ad infinitum.

  10. Obesity kills far more people in the US than guns do. She clearly participates in the slowdeath by food ritual, and seeks to distract herself from the eventual outcome by pointing out what she sees as other people’s failures.

  11. Says a lot about what she thinks of gun people if she says transsexuals are a threat in our minds. Dumbass side digs are a good way to get your entire argument disregarded.

  12. There’s been widespread gun ownership in the US since we claimed our independence. Violent crime has steadily and dramatically decreased in the last 30 years. Yet, the gun grabbers insist the solution is infringing on the Constitutional Rights of law abiding citizens. Suicide is terrible, and is disingenuously added to the “gun violence” statistics, while hypocrite blue states fight to protect and make lawful, assisted suicides. The nearly exclusive percentage of remaining crimes/murders committed with firearms are street criminals already prohibited from owning/possessing firearms. The media have sensationalized the very few mass tragedies to make it seem that this is an epidemic. Still, almost all of them are being carried out by those that should’ve been prohibited, but that law enforcement allowed to slip through the cracks. Still, others have used stolen weapons from family members, as the Sandy Hook shooter killed his mother to gain access to her weapons before killing all those kids. Immediately, these filthy leftists move to banning and controlling under the guise of “common sense”. If they were truly interested in common sense solutions, they’d eliminate gun free zones, aka…killing fields and allow those who wish to carry firearms to protect others, the freedom to do so. How many times have we seen an armed attack end, immediately, upon encountering armed opposition? Almost 100% of the time. Anyway, how many of these mass shooters have been NRA members? The next one will be the first one. Attempting to blame the most law abiding demographic in the country for the failings of Liberal Terrorists™️ And the mentally ill millennials they’ve coddled won’t get you very far. Those on the democrat plantations, in exclusively controlled democrat cities are waking up.

  13. The gun culture has been defined not by those who own firearms, but by the media and they define us as ignorant, racist, ill-educated and leaning toward violence. I am amazed every time I take a young person to our local Issac Walton range, they expect to see a bunch of backwoods hillbillies and find that most of the members are well educated and very willing and friendly. The younger folks have bought into that media definition of those in the gun culture and I love to point out that it’s very untrue. I have also had them start with a 77/22 and then move to the 10-22. Same 10 round mag, same scope and more fun in semi-auto. I try to take a new prospect with me at least once a month.

I agree, I don’t own firearms to protect society, but to protect myself. When you need help police are minutes away, not good enough. There is also the ‘militia’ function which is NOT the national guard. The militia is made up of the citizenry and is a check on the power of a standing army that can become the tool of a Government that would usurp our rights.

We need to present a less combative and better view of ourselves, but it’s hard to fight the media. Even my cousin who use to hunt became a journalist and then wrote anti-gun editorials. I gave up on him….

  14. You claim you have your guns so that you can save us from tyranny or commies or bad guys or whatever. Well, now’s your chance. Save us.
So why don’t Progtards like you get rid of your stupid gun laws and GTF out of the way.
Example GFZs and gun safety laws in Communist areas.

  15. When Betsy Phillips refers to “gun owners” is she also referring to the Crips, Bloods, MS-13 and other varios and assorted criminal gangs with firearms who are the greatest practitioners of firearm violence?

  16. Quite often, firearms owners are their own worst enemies. The duck hunters don’t like the AR-15 “black rifles” so they see no problem if attempts are made to ban them. The traditional rifle owners don’t like machine guns, so they have no problem with them being legislated out of existence. Some pistol owners see nothing wrong with certain long guns being outlawed just as some rifle owners would have no problem seeing pistols banned. You see, anti-gunners want them all. They will chip away a little at a time until their goal of civilian disarmament is complete. They have an excuse for banning every firearm. Scoped bolt-action rifles are defined by anti-gunners as “sniper rifles” because they are “too accurate”. Magazine-fed weapons are suspect because of high (actually normal) magazine capacity. Handguns are suspect because they are “easily concealable”. The gun grabbers want them all and have made (flimsy and suspect) excuses for banning every type of firearm. They don’t care how long it takes. and will use incrementalism to their advantage.
Friends, ALL firearms advocates must “hang together” and realize that an assault on ANY means of firearms ownership and self-defense is an assault on ALL forms of firearms ownership and self-defense.
There is absolutely NO ROOM for complacency among ANY Second Amendment supporters. An attack on one is an attack on ALL…
ALL firearms laws are unconstitutional on their face. Imagine the hue and cry if “reasonable” restrictions were placed on First Amendment activities, especially with the “mainstream media”. The Second Amendment is clear–what part of “shall not be infringed” do politicians and the media not understand…of course, they understand full well…it’s part of their communist agenda…
Even the NRA bears some responsibility for capitulation on matters concerning firearms. The NRA failed when it allowed the National Firearms Act of 1934 to stand without offering opposition, the 1968 Gun Control Act, the NICS “instant check” system, the “no new machine gun for civilians” ban in 1986, the so-called “assault weapons ban in 1991, and other infringements on the Second Amendment. Let’s face it. What better way to increase membership than to “allow” infringements to be enacted and then push for a new membership drive. Yes, the NRA has done good, but its spirit of “compromise” will only lead to one thing…confiscation.
If the NRA is truly the premier “gun rights” organization, it must reject ALL compromise…

    • A Modest Proposal that they just do it already, and leave the rest of us to live our own lives without their toxic influence. I can’t even imagine how demented I’d have to be to have such a strong desire to meddle in the lives of random people like this author clearly does.

  17. The average Gun Owner is an absolute fool and his reluctance “to fix the problem” only guarantees that in the long and even now the short run he becomes his own worst enemy by refusing to do anything and hopes the problem will just go away. Well it will not just go away and not having universal background checks, no laws on safe storage, and Republicans now reducing what little money there was for mental health care has all turned the majority of the American people against owning guns of any kind. That is the legacy of refusing to do anything.

Yes its cheaper to just ban guns and confiscate them and the Republicans in order to save money are well aware of it and could not care less. That is also why they refuse to fund money on the Federal Level for school security devices and armed guards. Again its within the Republican cheap ass stingy way of life to take the cheap way out and just ban guns only their followers who vote for them are to damn ignorant to know they are being “had”.

    • Crisco, sorry I dissed your chubby mom. I promise to give up all the “your momma is so fat” jokes at least through the end of the year, so you can continue to live peacefully in her basement for a few more months.

    • Well, you sure seemed to have it all figured out. So, if we are indeed on the path to ruin, why would a disarmist like yourself be anything but elated? Why ‘warn’ us not to jump in that brier patch?

It must be because you are actually pissed off that we may actually fight against your disarmist bullshit, and fend it off like we have every time we’ve been unified in purpose. So you try to berate gun owners into conceding simply to avoid your shrill wails. You’re terrified that we might demonstrate –again– that gun rights is a winning issue, while gun control is a total loser anyplace that competing ideas are allowed.

Everything inside your head is wrong, and you know absolutely nothing.

    • Cisco Kid. It is rather ironic that your name really does fit your belief system, (socialism) which is simply a kid in an adult’s body that wants their parents / government to do everything for them.

So your constant demand that if we would only “do something”, ie “compromise” on some gun control laws, because it might keep the rest of the progressive/socialists from demanding all of our guns through government laws makes sense in your own emotionally arrested paradigm, but this obsessive need for control, expressed through this constant demand for more “common sense” gun laws, will never be satiated until all of us have been completely disarmed. Because getting power over other humans is a high, a rush, a drug, and a drug addict will never be satisfied with just one last “common sense” gun law. The need for control will never be satisfied until these addicts have absolute power and control over every one.

So the way to deal with any addict, the time to stop their demand for one more hit of thier favorite drug is now. Just say no, no more compromise, no more “common sense” gun laws.

      • to Astra

“quote—————————–So why aren’t the dems pushing school security spending bills in Congress and state legislatures?—————————–quote

The answer is simple. Its the same reason no serious attempt has been made to impeach Trump. With the Republicans in control of both houses it would be a waste of time to even try in either instance. Both bills would not stand a chance especially school security because of all the millions it would cost.

  18. As usual, the progs have it completely backwards.
Do not expect a bunch of OFWGs to fix the “gun problem.” It’s not the 60 year old, bullseye pistol every Thursday evening, Ray Ban wearing crowd that is shooting up the south side of Chicago or the random high school. In fact, these old NRA member codgers are about as culturally removed from the problem as possible.

No, it’s the “I want more Facebook likes than you” crowd that’s sneaking an AR into the otherwise sleepy school. It’s the rap listening, high school not graduatin’ guys bustin caps downtown.

The question about fixes doesn’t go to the old deer hunters. It deserves to go to the current teenagers. As Kris Paronto replied to David Hogg, what is wrong with your generation and when are you going to fix it?

    • No, they’re just projecting, still, again, always.

      1) The poisonous culture is theirs, not ours, as seen by innumerable decaying urban centers under their precious One Party Rule
      2) They are the ones who want to see us dead (or just ‘gone’ as if that’s any different) in order to bring about that insane ideology
      3) She seems to be under the impression *we* have guns to protect *her* but nothing could be further from the truth

In a sense, she’s right to be afraid of us & want us ‘gone,’ since as long as she remains bent on pursuing her insane communist totalitarian agenda, many of our guns are in fact trained on her (albeit indirectly).

  19. “Oh stewardess, I speak gibberish.”

I have no idea what she’s blathering about, and obviously neither does she.

  20. Go drink some strychnine, harpie.

The ones drinking poisoned Flavor-Aid at Jonestown were lured there by a quasi-religious communist. Take from that what you will.

  21. I will help you, if your drowning I will throw you an anchor, if your on fire I will put it out with gasoline, if your getting shot at I will dial 9-1-1

  22. “No common-sense fat legislation is coming. We’re all doing the equivalent of letting you inject soda into your veins, and, for some reason, also letting you force us to waste the medical infrastructure we all have to use, because that would infringe upon your right to eat yourself into publicly-funded blindness & amputation.

“So, fatties, it’s on you. You need to go on a diet and stop dressing like women. You claim you are at a healthy weight so that you can be lazy and brow-beat everyone who calls you out on your bullshit. Well, now’s your chance. Drop the weight.

  23. “No common-sense Communist legislation is coming. We’re all letting you spread your Communism freely, and, for some reason, also letting you stop us from putting down your insane ambitions, because that would infringe upon your rights which you seek to deny everyone.

“So, Communists, it’s on you. You need to fix the Communist ideology. You claim you fight for the common man so that you can save us from tyranny or Nazis or corporations or whatever. Well, now’s your chance. Shut the hell up.

  24. Cisco and Mz. Fix-your-problem have something in common – they blame innocent gun owners for the lack of morals and indiscriminate shootings of others. It’s the “Johnny, because you shoot someone in a drive by, I am now forced to take away Mr. Smiths hunting rifles”.
The anti-gun mafia wants more government laws that will not do anything useful so that they can feel that they did something to improve the problem. They feel that only the government can accomplish this.
As Ben Franklyn said: those who would trade freedom for temporary safety deserve neither.
Ted Kennidys’ car has killed more people that my guns have; yet I have not seen any calls to ban automobiles. More young people die while texting and driving than by guns every year, however I see no wave of protests to “save the children”. All I see is a bunch of hypocrites screeching about how gun owners have to be disarmed so that they can “feel” safe. The anti-gun mafia and their followers do nothing to actually cure the problem of misuse of firearms. They just want to ostracize the other side and try to force us to capitulate to their desires. They are chasing a false target!

  25. We are the most law abiding segment of society. YOU fix YOURSELVES, before we do it for you. How bout that?

  26. That’s Projection. The problem doesn’t get to define the problem or suggest solutions because all you get is bullshit projection.

Unfuck yourself before you claim anything else is fucked up.

    Bulldoze Nashville.

  27. I don’t know which newspapers she reads, but I’m pretty sure American gun owners saved the nation from tyranny back in the Revolutionary War- and it hasn’t come back since, so… maybe we’ve got a pretty good track record there.

Edit- the degree to which American government inches towards tyranny is broadly similar to the degree they think the citizen body has lost the will to fight against it. Maybe it’s time to buy more guns.

  28. you tell us we need to fix ourselves, but we don’t blame auto manufacturers for highway deaths, nor do we blame alcohol producers for the drunk driving fatalities we use common sense and blame the individuals who are responsible ,guns are no different . People say no one needs an ar15 does anyone need a car that will run 170 or 200 mph answer NO so why not put governors on cars so they will not go over 70mph? Just try to get that legislation passed and look at the back lash you will get.A gun is just a tool like a car or truck it is how they are used

  29. Gun culture is not the problem. Criminal culture is the problem. The people of gun culture cannot fix criminal culture on a large scale basis. At best it can only happen one criminal at a time when they try to attack a member of the gun culture.

  30. “Help Us, Gun Owners — You’re Our Only Hope”

It’s a trap! This is not princess Leia’s plead, it’s Jabba the Hutt!

  31. My personal arms serve two purposes.

    1. To entertain and or occupy myself, as in target shooting.
    2. To protect myself and family, should the need arise.

In my view, you are or should be free to entertain yourself in any lawful manner. You should also be free to defend yourself, and family as you see fit, or not. I personally have zero responsibilities to act in your defense, should you choose not to so act. End of story.
