More women getting into the shooting sports? Yeah, we know. It’s been one of the most over-done stories of the gun boom. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t a lot more women to be had (so to speak). The NRA’s just launched the NRA Women’s Network along with new social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Pinterest. Despite the monochromatic casting in the promo video, more women carrying guns and in the shooting sports can only be a good thing. Maybe they’ll be targeting blacks, Hispanics and Asians in the next video. Maybe.

As I said earlier (or meant to say), going after women is a no-brainer for the NRA. It allows them to say “hey, look, we’re inclusive!” while nabbing the demographic (after those currently into/buying guns) who are most likely to buy their products, particularly the pricey/fancy ones. With CCW being “all the rage” now there’s a bundle to be made in guns and accessories if ONLY the NRA could get these gals to view guns and associated items like the other items they spend their disposable income on.
Doesn’t take a marketing guru to figure this one out.

Yes; blacks and Hispanics don’t have as much disposable income. In addition, I doubt they’re as easy to successfully market to; as such, even with more disposable income they wouldn’t be so inclined to spend it on the moneymakers in the gun industry.

More women shooting is potential salvation of The Second Ammendment since they’re usually the ones crying in fear of firearms like Sarah Brady when in fact, women MOST need to be armed because they’re so often targeted by criminals. Getting people of other than European ancestry involved in NRA is challenging because they tend to be perceived as a whitewash despite the “secret” that they’re the nation’s oldest civil rights organization.

While I’m not sure about non-violent crime, men are actually the victims of violent crime at a rate 4X that of women.

This campaign on the part of the NRA is a desperate attempt to normalize something that is just not normal, at least for most people.

I guess a case can be made for that one based on the story of how pharaoh kept on making decisions that led to ever greater punishments. He was in the Nile or denial. One definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over that leads to the same failed and undesired result.

I’d say it’s a combination of projection, the need to control others in order to satisfy one’s own fears, and the mental and emotional inability to deal with the realities of a harsh world. And sometimes with gun-grabbers it’s plain old stupidity, like anything else.
What’s hilarious is that they don’t even realize that their distinct posting styles give them away. Laci the Limey Lawyer attempts to argue constitutional law while spewing enough vitriol for ten ex-wives, MikeB plays at being the “reasonable” one, and Miss Dog Gone believes herself to be quite the psychologist. Only the internet could bring those three together. Truly, we live in interesting times.

Depends on state law. In Washington, you’d be breaking the law unless you informed the other party that they were being recorded. I’m no dating expert, but I figure that would tend to put a damper on most encounters.

I usually do. Now and then the need for female company does get really strong. Usually, I can get satisfied with just some socializing. The pleasures of the flesh can pale in relation to considering STDs, AIDs, child-support, lifetime alimony, FRAs, the financial cost to keeping women always happy, etc. Ideally, I’d love to be married to a woman with a couple kids, a few dogs, etc. However, today’s modern marriage version 2.0 which gives women so much legal power over men keeps me back. It is logically a bad and risky investment which harms more men in modern society than it helps.

I’m sad that the NRA really missed a golden opportunity when making these “women” videos that they didn’t include some minority women. Instead we got a vision of women in the NRA as not only all being white, but also blue eyed blonds. Ok, the main spokepeople of the video look like what they look like, can’t really change that, but the group shots of ladies on the range and some of the interaction shots of the lady shooters and their coaches could have shown at least a couple of folks that were something besides blonde white women. It’s a little thing, but it would go a long ways towards portraying the NRA as more inclusive.
I agree. But you exist in the world you know. My guess is the folks on Waples Mill: 1) know a lot of heartland Caucasians and not too much else; and 2) scoff at “diversity” as an overused trope.

I was at a gun show this past weekend and it was remarkable the number of women purchasing handguns. Not only that, the number being sold period.
I think people are finally seeing the light. Now they all want to gun up just in case.
I think more women too are single or single moms or are alone with the kids while dad is off working. Having some protection in the house gives them piece of mind.
Even as a pro-gun CCW holder, the conservative politics package that almost seems to come bundled with NRA membership is off-putting enough to me that I refuse to join. With the image that the NRA is made up predominantly of older, straight, conservative white males who have no problem taking away womens’ rights in other areas, It’s no surprise that women are staying away in droves.
I am ready to support the NRA when they start supporting the entire population of the US, not just the folks that look like them.
I’m somewhat inclined to agree – with the “good ol’ boys club” aspect of the NRA being offputting, at least. One of many reasons they’re not likely to see a penny from me, ever.
That said, I’ve got no problem with ’em ramping up awareness and keeping a little pressure on legislators, for whatever good that does.
