The Springfield Hellcat micro-compact has a good out-of-the-box trigger for a striker-fired pistol. Apex Tactical, however, is in the business of giving gun owners options for improving or replacing their standard bangswitch with upgrades that can transform the shooting experience from OK to exceptional.
They’ve just announced their new Action Enhancement Trigger for the Hellcat, which consists of a trigger shoe, sear spring and striker spring. My Hellcat now sports the upgraded Apex trigger (more on that later).

Your honor, the defendant is one of those right wing gun extremists who carries a gun and went looking for an opportunity to shoot someone, namely my client. Exhibit A, the weapon in question. Not that the defendant went out of their way to purchase an upgrade to make the trigger “more responsive”, so as to allow for more accurate rapid-fire “clipazine dumps”. Not the racially problematic design etched into the trigger – a “thin blue line’ which stands for persecution of minorities and generally poor hygiene. Note the American flag – a known symbol of the American nazis! I ask, your honor – why would a person who claims to use guns for “self protection” spend money to make their gun MORE deadly, MORE accurate, and then decorate it with vigilante imagery.
Of course it MIGHT not go down that way, but it DEFINITELY won’t if you can somehow abstain from putting that Punisher backplate on your Glock. Doing something to actually change the firing mechanism? Especially the trigger? Any prosecutor with Bloomberg’s hand up their idea-hole is going to pounce on that. Why hand hand them the rope yourself?
If the prosecutor said that, all your defending attorney would need to say is “stop being stupid.”

As for the second comment goes, ever hear someone give the advice that should try out various firearms before selecting a carry gun? It’s standard advice you know One the reasons you do that is to find a trigger you like. If you are proficient with firearms you should be able pick up any gun and shoot it well unmodified. I have shot one perfect score on a qualification. It was with a Browning Hi Power with an unmodified trigger. It is a really crappy trigger.
Afterthought on trigger upgrades that will further upset Harry.
Every golfer knows that new driver, wedge or putter is going to take many strokes off your score except it never does because it’s you and not the clubs. My experience with firearms is the same. A “better” trigger isn’t going to make you better because it’s you and not the gun. Sights are a little different because some sights may make it easier for you to get good sight picture. However, if you just practice you probably will figure out where to point the pistol to consistantly hit where you want.

Well, there is a reason the things are still in production more than 100 years later, in more or less the original form … and it isn’t due to the magazine capacity, that’s for sure.
jwt made me aware that they are the most issued side arm ever, at all. i’m sure it’s because they are rugged and reliable.
that frame mounted safety that goes up irks me. pretty much why i don’t own one. or more to the point, one of those groovy smiths. i think the little dao’s are the way to go there.
When you push a safety down to disengage, your grip automatically tightens. When you push a safety up to disengage your grip automatically loosens.
Since you have the safety on till you need it (for years most likely), it’s much more intuitive to push it down to take the weapon off safe and fire the gun.
They are still around because anyone can manufacturer them and they are a recognize commodity.
That being said, I have a 1911, and love shooting it, use it for competition, sometimes carry it or have it one the nightstand. Everyone of my other handguns is a just a better as self defense weapon, include a cheep polymer EAA witness. The grip safety and no option for not using the thumb safety (I prefer double to single so I don’t need to use one) are just a liability in my opinion. I have failed to activate both during a drill at least once.
And if you want a good out of the box trigger CZs are always an option, or if you use to shooting double, Kahr in another choice.
How are they better? . It takes two shots of 9mm to equal one shot from a .45 , dont believe me, 115+115 = 230 so there

My brother in laws new Hellcat has a crappy trigger out of the box. I have never felt one like it. It sort of hangs or sticks or through the take up, until the wall. Then the break from the wall is pretty good. I will be forwarding him this article.

I was delighted with the results when I installed the Powder River Precision trigger kit, striker safety kit, extended mag release, and stainless pin set in my Springfield XD-S.
PRP offers a kit for the Springfield Hellcat too.
Apex Tactical’s Hellcat kit provides a lovely designer shoe, plus a sear spring and a striker spring.
PRP’s Hellcat kit provides a sear, disconnector, striker safety, sear spring, disconnector spring, and striker safety spring. Alas you’re stuck with the stock shoe.
PRP’s costs more, but they address more of the problem than just the rates of two springs.

Fired three magazines (S&B 124 gr FMJ) through a friend’s Hellcat. I found the slide serrations shallow and not very grippy. The trigger guard was not undercut enough for my knobby hands and a case of “Glock Knuckle” appeared during the second mag. I thought the stock trigger was “Meh”.
The good news is that my friend likes his Hellcat and shoots it fairly well…it’s just not a comfortable firearm for me to shoot…YMMV.
In other news, I picked up two boxes of Federal AE 9mm 124 FMJ on Saturday at my LGS for $12.49 each. The owner was only allowing two boxes per customer…really pissed off the out-of-State tourons (mostly Washington / Oregon) who wanted to buy all that he had. He “86’d” one obnoxious “visitor” while I was standing there….Life is Good in Montana!
