Robert Francis O’Rourke hasn’t gotten a lot of love for his confrontational, “Hell yes we’re going to take away your AR-15” approach to gun control. He’s even taken flak even from some in his own party who see all that loose confiscation talk as counter-productive to deceiving the electorate persuading voters that they really don’t want to take their guns.
Beto, though, has nothing to lose. When your failing campaign is hopelessly mired in the 1-3% support range, you have to do what you have to do in order to stay relevant and keep from sinking to the levels of obscurity inhabited by the likes of Michael Bennet and John Delaney.
But Beto is probably buoyed with the knowledge that none other than Congresswoman Zoolander herself, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a big supporter of his stance on gun-grabbing. She issued the following tweet . . .

I once calculated what it would take, if the NRA were to cease all spending on political campaigns and lobbying, for the Financial & Real Estate industries to make up for the loss. If I recall correctly, thei would have to increase their contributions by 3%.
The NRA as a big-money tool of the firearms industry is one of the canonical lies of the Left and its pet media. It never really made any sense, though. Think about it, how big IS the firearms industry? Not that big, really, in the grand scheme of things. How much money are you spending on guns this year, compared to, say, food? Housing? Cars? Energy to run them all?
Now instead of money, let’s talk about votes. How many people would go to the mat for their banker? Where was the grassroots activism for stricter bankruptcy laws? When’s the last time you saw a Bank of America bumper sticker?
Clearly the NRA’s influence is about votes. It’s barely a drop in the bucket when it comes to financial influence.

No abortion clinic receives funds for providing abortions, haven’t for years. They have received funds solely for health screenings for women and birth control counseling.

This is not new at all. Historically the Southern Democrats were out in public passing racist gun control for hundreds of years. The difference now is you have Democrats all over the country trying to pass more racist gun control. And you have connected non white lawmakers jumping on the bandwagon as well.
Timeline is off. The first gun control bills in the south were passed after the Civil War. Before that, the slaves did not have the right to own property, so it was not a concern. There were a few concealed carry bans in a few states before the War, but those applied to (white) criminals. Heller discusses those cases, if you are interested.
