Chicago tribune anti-gun

Want to paint a story about a licensed concealed carrier successfully defending himself in the most negative light possible? Easy. Be a big city newspaper editor. They’re the ones who write the titles for articles that happen to document the effects of criminal predators coming up against lawfully-armed individuals.

Take, for instance, yesterday’s post by the assiduously anti-gun Chicago Tribune. Here’s the title of the article:

Man paralyzed by concealed carry holder in 2017 dies from injuries, police say

The paper’s online editor jumped on board, too. Here’s their tweet linking to the article:

You see? This is what happens when we let just anyone walk around with a gun. No one needs to be armed except small-penis yahoos that are just itching to shoot someone!

That’s precisely the reaction the Tribune’s editors were trying to elicit. Headlines like that are enough to get a fair number low-information suburban moms to put on their red t-shirts and show up at their next city council meeting to demand change.

Here’s the article’s lede:

A south suburban quadriplegic who died at a suburban hospital over the weekend succumbed to injuries he suffered in 2017, when he was shot and paralyzed by a concealed carry permit holder in the city’s Calumet Heights neighborhood on the South Side, authorities said.

Brian Ford, 20, was pronounced dead Saturday at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy performed Wednesday showed that Ford died from a gunshot wound to the neck, along with complications of quadriplegia, according to the agency.

Damned gun nuts! This is exactly the kind of carnage the bloodthirsty NRA wreaks on this country.

But for the few readers who actually made it farther into the article, the truth about poor Mr. Ford is revealed.

Ford’s injury stemmed from a Dec. 12, 2017, shooting that began with the then-18-year-old pulling his own gun on a 27-year-old man driving his vehicle into a rear yard in the 9100 block of South Harper Avenue, according to Chicago police.

It isn’t clear what Ford’s intent was that day, but it probably didn’t include facing a victim with a gun. As it turned out, the un-named 27-year-old who Ford pointed his gun at had a concealed carry permit. And he was armed.

So this isn’t a story of a poor South suburban youth whose life was tragically cut short because of our insanely permissive gun laws. In truth, Ford’s death was the result of his decision to commit a crime with a gun…and choosing the wrong victim. One of hundreds of thousands of successful defensive gun uses that take place in the US every year.

Not that you’re going to read anything that presents the facts that way in the Chicago Tribune.

  1. And just to show what a crap hole Chicago is prosecutors dropped the felony charges against the perp, Ford, 9 days after the incident.

    • The city of Chicago dropped the charges because they didn’t want to have to pay the hospital bills. He clearly wasn’t going anywhere, and didn’t possess the ability to commit further crimes. They wanted the feds to pay his bills via Medicaid.

    • I know a woman who’s husband IS a prosecutor in Cook County.

The State and County would not even let the prosecutors carry a concealed weapon BEFORE the NRA lawsuit succeeded in forcing Illinois and Shitcago to grant Shall Issue gun permits. The prosecutors and criminals parked in the same parking lots and entered the courthouses through the same doors. Even now they STILL CANNOT CARRY THEIR CONCEALED WEAPONS INTO THE COURTHOUSE!

      Shitcago Land of Shitbama.

    • I’m not too torn up about them dropping the charges. It’s not like he’s going to commit the same crime again AND he’s basically in a hell that is as bad as anything he would have seen in prison for.

    • ….is penis-size going to become a criteria for getting a gun permit?…going to make it hard for a lot of women…[to qualify]….

  2. And poor Adolf was forced to eat a bullet after years of incessant bullying made his life unbearable.
    I like this game.

  3. Fact is Ford tried to threaten a law abiding citizen that day , one that happened to have a means to defend himself. Criminals don’t follow laws , do as they please , and sometimes it costs them. We all have a right to defend ourselves. Its not complicated. To all the scumbags out there , think before you threaten someone’s life , you may just forfeit your own.

  4. It’s going to come down to leftists versus conservatives. Both sides are too different to reach a compromise.
I see civil war in our future.

    • Yup!

And I weep for my kids who are going to have to live through the bulk of it. I’ve had a good life, if it happens I can lay my life on the line to help with little regret. I only hope it helps bring a better world for my grandchildren.

  5. “The older man, a concealed carry holder, pulled his own firearm and shot the victim, police said.” The lowlife who committed a crime by pulling a gun on someone is the victim.

    • Yeah the slant on that story has enough of a slope to ski on. Haven’t seen many similar events up here but the way Albany and Troy “police brutality” is portrayed I think it would be a similar template.

  6. Being a small penis Yahoo! I have concealed Carry. I damned well do not want to shoot someone. I have had my home robbed several times over the years. Went as far as carrying a 700 lb. compressor over 1/4 mile to go and sell to buy drugs. One of 3 boys has size 14 shoes. (Did not want me to see their lights.) Asked them if took Compressor. Yes! took it to next town sold for drug money. Last time caught someone had several boxes of power tools stacked to take. Called cops. Will be over half hour. No officers in area. Waited hour plus. called back. Shot him. Was a cop here in about minute and half. (He was setting at local Fire Hall under lights doing paper work.) I thought you said you shot him? They said there is no officers in area. Still nothing happened. Was in Potland few minutes before the Afitica Group stopped traffic on freeway ambulance and all. and broke windows out of cars. within minute of where i wenr through. If stopped me and broke windows out of my car I would shot them. Maybe would be in prison today.

  7. Meh…CC self defense is generally reported POSITIVELY in all Chiraq lamestream media. Try a bit harder TTAG😏

      • Do better…I live in Cook county. TTAG is consistently clueless about Chicagoland. Nobody cares about the Tribune. Please don’t reply to me. After yesterday’s dumb reply on AR ammo(just looking for an opinion) I sure don’t give a damn about yours VN.

        • The day before yesterday? That triggered you? It might have been useless, which I fully admitted to at the time, but it sure wasn’t ill spirited.

  8. The permit holder should file a suit, even just to get the paper’s attention. Every gun owner in Illinois should stop buying the paper if they haven’t already.

    • I talked to a Tribune employee (not a writer, a circulation dept worker). Their subscribers are mostly lefties/anti-gun dems. If they print a positive article on guns or Trump, they lose more subscribers than if they print a negative article. As always…follow the money.

  9. What do you expect of newspaper editors who collectively overall are masters of deceit? These political elitist liars are traitors against our republic! Need I continue on? Probably not. Fight truth decay.

  10. Really? He was shot in the neck & paralyzed…and clung to life for 2 more years before dying? Gimme a break.

I hope that POS had a miserable final 2 years of his worthless life.

    • Being a quad is pretty miserable. Had a few clients who ended up that way in accidents. Spastic quadriplegia due to head trauma are the worst, as most cannot communicate. They usually die of pneumonia.

  11. I see a Lot of anti-gun propaganda but this seems Like just facts….. none of the weasel words I’ve come to expect from the Left…just facts. When you’re a 2A hammer Dan…. …everything the mainstream media says Looks Like a nail.

    • Calling the perp who was shot as he was attempting to commit a crime the “victim” is prime example of everyday “weasel words” used to distort perceptions. Burying the actual reason he was shot later in the article is also a common method of distorting perceptions. (It’s the “news” article version of “the small print takes away what the big print promises.”) And even when they do describe it, they use terms that imply the driver was not where he had a right to be.

      • Hmmm… I just reread it and searched “find in page” for the word “victim” and found it in the comment section several times… …but only in the article once when Dan wrote that the victim pulled his own gun on the perp.

        • I don’t know how you missed it. This is from the newspaper newspaper article linked above:

The older man, a concealed carry holder, pulled his own firearm and shot the victim, police said.

          Emphasis mine.

        • So Dan Left out of his synopsis the ONE QUOTE(calling the perp a victim) that justifies his assessment of this article as anti gun. Relying instead on his busy readers to do their own research. Very rarely do I click Links embedded in articles…. …this is why I choose synopses.

    • The most effective propaganda is merely an incomplete picture, not outright fabrication of events. Effective enough to have apparently worked on people like yourself.

You can’t possibly think it isn’t intentional that the emphasis, subjects, and order of presentation in this article all combine to minimize the circumstances of the guy’s injury, and maximize the apparent human tragedy of his death.

*To be fair* the article is basically an obituary, and from that perspective it makes sense to not dwell on how much of a shitbag this guy was…but the again one has to wonder why this was even presented as a news article & not an obituary in the first place –more evidence of the axe being ground.

  12. Hear an awful lot about the alleged abuse of the second ammendment, hear precious little about the blatant abuse of the first! Any thoughts?

      • The same way that controlling arms is a dangerous notion. That said, the BoR has the word “congress” at the very front for a reason; freedom of speech is enshrined at the federal level, and at the state level it defers to the state constitution (except it has been wrongly incorporated top-down, leading to everyone being subject to everyone else’s social mores at any time, the inevitable consequence being a severe restriction in the name of political correctness)

  13. The real question is why low-information suburban moms are demanding action in regards to small-penis yahoos.

Sounds like the plot for a really bad porno.

  14. Well… I guess no one is going to be paying for the criminal’s medical bills anymore…. No more, no more, no more, no more – hit the road Jack….

  15. Ugh thanks to this episode I just wasted brain cells on learning what the “ratio” means in twitterspeak. FML
