“Support a bulletproof Arms Trade Treaty,” amnesty.org.uk urges. Because “Every year, hundreds of thousands of people suffer because of an unregulated arms trade. For decades campaigners have been fighting to ensure the trade is properly controlled. We now have a once in a lifetime chance to secure a bullet proof Arms Trade Treaty. In July, world leaders will meet in New York to draw up an historic document: the first ever international Arms Trade Treaty. Get it wrong and we may never get another chance to put it right.” Yes, well, there’s nothing wrong with bringing the rest of the world up to the U.S. standards for arms exports (end user certificates and such). But it looks like the gun grabbers have latched onto the stealthy U.N. Arms Treaty as a way to attack armed self-defense . . .

Sure, the tribal and internecine violence in developing countries is horrific. But are we really saying that a disarmed populace would be better for all concerned? And I wonder if Britain’s champagne socialists supporting gun control abroad are aware that the UK economy would collapse if Her Majesty’s government choked off the island’s arms exports. Just a thought.

  1. Brought to you by the same people who deny the death penalty to murderers and rapists. It might as well be from the Brady Campaign.

  2. The worst genocide since the holocaust was accomplished mainly with machetes. Here and there there were rifles used when available, but the vast majority of the thousands upon thousands of people killed were hacked to death. If people really want to kill people, any implement at hand will do.

Violence has many causes, but weapon availability isn’t one of them.

    • The JPFO has documented ALL the genocides of the past century being preceded by gun registration and then confiscation.

      • Just because a genocide was PRECEDED by the confiscation of
privately held firearms does not mean that the genocide itself was
performed using firearms. You’re confusing the tools that could
have been used to prevent genocide with the tools in the
        furtherance of genocide.

        • actually i think that is Aharon’s point. guns were removed and then the killing began, instead of killing them off and then taking the guns. after all, to some extent, the difference between a civil war and a genocide is whether or not both sides have firearms.

    • Absolutely spot on Carlos.

That video just smacks of simpletons that confuse the ideal world, which is eminently noble to strive for but must definitely be tempered with the real world. Putting time and money into an idealistic video is a feel good waste that will change nothing. It’ll fire up First-World hippie suckers everywhere who don’t have the mental capacity to look beyond 2+2. What are the chances that video will make two shits worth off difference to Hutu’s hell bent on chopping up or shooting every Tutsi in sight? Or, for that matter, any social, political or religious strife anywhere in the world? Most of these hotspots have been fighting for generations. No amount of dumbass videos are going to make the slightest bit of difference and good friggin luck getting guns out of Africa or any strife-ridden area.

The real problem those dipshits need to tackle is WHY one group wants to kill another group but of course that is way too complex an issue to get the quick feel-good fix they always look for. The groups that fight have always, still do, and always will fight.

The U.N. is as useless as tits on a boar and should be run out of this country as soon as possible.

    • Just a note – this isn’t a video from Amnesty International but a project on the part of the video’s creator who apparently has nothing to do with the group.

You might be able to reply to the video here… please just don’t be one of those angry neanderthals that cusses this guy out and verbally assaults him without actually providing an argument for your point of view… it makes all of us look bad.

  3. Because women and children are so much bigger and stronger than men? Obviously without a gun no man would ever be able to rape a woman or a child.

  4. UN?

    Arms Trade TREATY?

Hilarious, this comedy channel is. Whoa. They were serious?

You mean, these people seriously believe that a world community of despots, monarchies, and oppressive Socialist & Unitary regimes would actually abide by a piece of paper signed at the most meaningless bureaucracy on the planet?Mein Gott! The UN in many instances *caused* wars to happen! Our men wouldn’t have perished in 1993 had the UN not deliberately done everything possible to piss off Aidid ,and then turn around to demand that we bail them out when the consequences of pissing off the warlord with the most guns came to bear.

  5. “Every year, hundreds of thousands of people suffer because of an unregulated arms trade.”

That number is nothing compared to the number of people who suffer from government-monopolized violence and regulation forbidding personal self-defense. Oh, but I forgot, we don’t like those people anyway because seeing responsible people makes cowards feel bad about themselves.

Should we get into the historical numbers of how many people have suffered at the hands of royalty, dictatorships, and others who are poster children for civilian weapon regulation?

    • Government killed 260 million of their own citizens last century, why should we trust them again?

  6. The UN civilian arms treaty is a way for the despots of the world to grab guns and hose their citizens. This is a back door gun control scheme for US and other ” democratic ” politicians to do the same to the US American populace and other nominal democracies and republics.

  7. That such ludicrous stament about woman kids. Just for fact in place like afghanistan woman kids arm to teeth try kill well arm us soldiers.

  8. First of all lets look at the crime rates in areas this treaty is in place, last count i seen between 3-10 times higher and more violent than here in America. And on the unregulated violence, if you want to make a change to violence in America start with the laws allowing unions to beat and sometimes kill people that work during strikes, and then work the way to opening up the second amendment rights to its original depth and meaning and then we may have some answers. Otherwise, people trying to infringe on the rights of Americans can just keep their traps shut and let us enjoy the freedoms we fight to keep.

    • That’s quite a trick because this treaty isn’t in place in any country, seeing as how its text does not exist yet even in draft form.

  9. If this is anything like the last UN arms treaty that everyone was freaking out about, it is nothing to worry about. Literally all it said was “lets work together to stop illegal arms trading.” So it would do nothing.

    • This is the UN arms treaty that everyone has been freaking out about. And nobody knows what it says or what it would do because it won’t even be drafted until July. Until then, all you have is a bunch of position papers from various member nations and assorted NGO wishlists like this one from Amnesty International, none of which are binding.

      • Doesn’t matter what the UN negotiates at the conference, the US isn’t going to ratify it. Treaties need a two-thirds vote in the Senate to be ratified, and there’s exactly zero chance that the D’s want to get the 2nd-A voters riled up this year. The numbers look bad for them, and the question isn’t if they’re going to lose the Senate this cycle, the question is if they can keep the R’s from getting a filibuster-proof majority. If that happens, it really doesn’t matter who wins the Presidency- the R’s will hold the Senate and the House. In any case, the chances that the treaty will ever be relevant to our interests is roughly zero.

  10. What’s wrong with you people? How can you watch such a poignant video which depicts such awful suffering and react like you do? Are you that self-centered and biased that any mention of a gun’s involvement in a problem turns you defensive? The video made it very clear that gun availability has exacerbated those terrible situations. Why would you oppose that. The pitch is the same as gun control in the US, it’s to keep guns out of the hands of the unfit and dangerous. Nobody’s talking about disarming YOU.

    • “The video makes the dubious claim that gun availability has exacerbated those terrible situations.” —– Fixed.

    • Much of the human trafficking, rape and murder in places like Africa are perpetrated by UN peacekeepers. The UN is a criminal organization run by third world and Islamic despots. Why would we want to pay any attention to this corrupt organization?

    • “The pitch is the same as gun control in the US, it’s to keep guns out of the hands of the unfit and dangerous. Nobody’s talking about disarming YOU.” Present fool proof plan to disarm the vermin first and then we’ll get back to you.

  11. Yet. First they say they’re “just making it more difficult for criminals to get weapons”. Then they say they’re “just taking them away from the ‘unfit and dangerous'”. Then they say they’re “just making sure people have a good reason to possess them”. Then they say they’re “just making sure only people with appropriate needs have them”. Then you wake up one day, and the only people with guns are government employees and some very wealthy and well-connected types. No thanks.

  12. The problem with good, trusting, nice, and peaceful people around that world that want to live nice, peaceful lives is that they are trusting, nice and peaceful. These virtues make them totally vulnerable to bad, mean, violent people. There always have been and there always will be bad, mean, violent, untrustworthy people. And those people have always exploited good, trusting, nice, and peaceful people. We all know the saying “strength in numbers”. Unfortunately those bad, mean, violent, untrustworthy people know it as well and form gangs. Sometimes those gangs are even the “government” of a country. It is a particularly dangerous situation when that happens. You cannot reason with those people. You cannot persuade them. You cannot appeal to their “good” side. History has shown us over and over and over whether “good” people or “bad” people take control: whoever has decent weapons and the will to use them will prevail. No amount of wishful thinking or feel good propaganda will change that fact … any more so than someone can wish gravity away. Why do so many people refuse to accept this reality?

  13. counting to 10!!!!! Breathing!!!!! Needs coffee!!!!! ok.. This is
seriously laughable… Russia may not be good for much but there is
no way they would let something like this pass. Oh yeah don’t
forget they have veto power. It could also be some sort of
proclamation, but not a rule, which means no one cares. I would
stand by Russia on this one, I am sure America isn’t going to let
it pass either. All those military sales up in smoke because of
stupidity. I am sure it isn’t written clearly either. No I haven’t
read it, the urge to vomit is to great…
