“You can educate people on how to store, secure, and lock up their weapons. You can crack down on black markets for weapons. Local law enforcement can do things to reduce weapon theft. You can close the loophole for gun shows that allow anyone to buy a gun without a full background check. But the option to resolve problems with a gun is uniquely American, right? People think, ‘Oh, I’ll get a gun. I’m gonna shoot him.'” – Daniel J. Patinkin in What It Feels Like to Decide to Shoot Someone and Actually Do It [via vice.com]

  1. Screwed up interview as usual. I’m sure this guys book is good but he’s another anti.
Gun show loophole. Trump made it easier for the mentally ill to get guns. Blah blah blah.
    Christ.

    • Closing the “gun-show loophole” (which is doesn’t exist) is actually a stealth attempt to place any gun transfer under control of government. A parent passing on a heirloom firearm to a sone or daughter is a “loophole” that must be regulated by a formal background check/registration. In the minds of gun-control bureaucrats (who will definitely proliferate once we start “closing loopholes”) any time a firearm passes from one person to another a potential loophole exists which will have to be regulated. There are no “common-sense gun-control solutions”. All are violations of our 2nd amendment rights.

      • ^Stated perfectly.

Of the four “You can…” statements Senior Douche makes, only one, “…educate…” is even close to being doable.
The “loophole” doesn’t exist therefore nada.
And the other two are, bwahahaha, pie-in-the-sky wanna ride my unicorn pony over the rainbow of sparkles fantasies.
“…have the police crackdown on theft…”
        Hahahaha

It is the citizen that can prevent theft, not the police.
POLICE: also see historians, people that write down what happened, and also see janitors, people that clean up.
(I stole that analogy from a retired LEO.)

You must actually think everyone else is either as stupid or as crazy as you are. Come on how in the hell are you trying to bullshit some 2nd grader. Anyone can get all the deadly weapons and fire power they want by either through private sales which are totally unregulated or by going to a gun show and buying without paper work. How in the hell anyone could deny this is beyond all comprehension.

        • Prove it Cisco. Just walk into a gun show and try to buy a firearm without any paperwork being filed.

        • private sales aren’t regulated….but they’re also not a real source of criminal guns…these are acquired through theft or straw-purchasing…or a combination of the two…..

        • That’s how it should be. Government has no business in private person to person sales of anything.

          Again:
Federally licensed gun dealers have to run a background checks on any buyer, no matter where the sale happens, including gun shows. (CCL holders excluded in some states).
Private persons don’t have to do that, again the location of sale makes no difference. (Your state laws may vary).
There is nothing special about gun shows.

Have you ever been to a gun show? No unlicensed sellers are allowed, and the guns sold at shows are ALWAYS run through NICS. Every gun show has BATFE people on the premises to make sure these rules are followed. I know, because I have worked at the Wannenmacher Gun Show in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which was the largest show in the country, and may still be.

The problem with the anti gun movement is they believe their own propagandist lies. Perhaps you should do some research and become educated about the subject instead of repeating old worn out falsehoods.
No guns are allowed in or out of a gun show without being stopped at the entrance and being inspected, and proof of ownership is one of the key items that must be satisfied BEFORE any weapon enters or exits.

Back 30 years ago there were people who would bring in their own guns for sale – those people did not have a Federal Firearms License and were not barred from selling their property. That was then. No present day gun show is run this way, and no one other than a legitimate dealer is allowed to bring any weapon into the show for sale to anyone who happens to be there. The practice of private sales is a thing of the past. This is not new, but every day some uneducated fool brings this up, and says what you are saying – which in no way makes it true. If you really want to know what goes on at a gun show, I suggest you go to one and ask questions of the people running it, and ask to speak to the BATFE agent on the premises. Perhaps if you will do your homework you will learn something about the subject and not continue to spew ignorant pseudo facts.

But that doesn’t really concern you, now does it?

        • there are gun shows and there are gun shows…not all of them are as rigid…once went to one…[not so long ago]…where I observed two “biker types” sitting at a table with what appeared to be a chemistry set…I finally figured out what it was…portable meth lab!

    • My main gripe when I see these linked articles is that the source usually doesn’t have a comments section I can jump on to take their bigotry and discrimination apart.
      🤠

      • Don’t let it bother you. If they did, you’d find yourself blocked almost immediately.

They can’t bear to have someone challenging their “logic”.

        • Agreed. I tried to post on an ABC News gun control article once via Disqus. Comment was removed & I was banned within 2 minutes. My comment was not inappropriate or vulgar, etc. I was trying to take up for an intelligent, rational, polite, respectful, honest person who was being attacked by multiple other commenters of opposite character.

        • ” I tried to post on an ABC News gun control article once via Disqus. Comment was removed & I was banned within 2 minutes. ”

“The power of the press belongs to he who owns one” .(attribution is cloudy in history)

          Same with web sites.

Don’t “cast pearls”, and all that.

      • Here’s the thing; anybody can post here and, only occasionally, we’ll get a “2asux” or a “cisco kid”. Our voices seem to constitute the vast majority of vocal and thinking Americans on the internet. Arguments are easy to spell out and win when they can’t shout you down. Long diatribes that are meant to be the equivalent of an impassioned and emotional shout down (because “I actually care about children you baby killer!”), simply come off as an insane person ranting. In the relm of the written word we win hands down every time. And that is completely unacceptable to them because everybody knows that the written word is for morally and intellectually superior people /sarc/.

        • Again the fountain of knowledge and truth overflows –
          Cisco Kid says this –
“The article is on this site because it reflects the truth and that is that through private sales and gun shows anyone can and does get all the deadly firepower they want to commit crime and murder. What part of this do you not understand????????”

There are so many things wrong with your statements here, I can only address the most glaringly idiotic.
Criminals do not frequent gun shops or gun shows BECAUSE THE LAW ENFORCEMENT PRESENCE at these shows is something they do not want to confront. They also don’t pay retail or tax on their guns, preferring instead to steal or purchase stolen weapons from other criminals. Any legitimate sale – even by one individual to another should have paper proof of the transaction. NEVER sell a gun for cash and simply hand it over to someone you do not know! Give them a bill of sale and keep a copy for your own records. IS this the law? No. Is it a good idea to protect yourself? Most definitely. Even if you are gifting it to a family member, always keep records of the transfer. This is how you protect yourself from liability if the next owner is careless and lets it be stolen in case it ends up involved in a crime as evidence.

Your outrageously incorrect beliefs tell me you don’t own a firearm, and are ignorant of the responsibilities of gun ownership.

If you don’t like guns, don’t have one – that does not give you the right to violate another person’s second amendment rights to own a firearm of their own choosing.

OR – you can simply become another persistently wrong idiot who does not merit anyone’s attention.

Back in 1972 I was just out of basic training at Fort Leonard Wood and waiting for a connecting flight at the St. Louis Airport when an emaciated 30ish woman approached me and started yelling “BABY KILLER!!!” at me in my Army dress greens uniform. I was a PFC and had not even left the country yet, but she was consumed with her rage and just knew I was a war criminal. Two airport police officers came up in the middle of her foul language rant while I had yet to utter a word to her, and they asked her if I was bothering HER! I talked to the ranking officer and told him exactly what happened and why I was there, having just completed an 8 week course of BCT, and they asked me to move down the concourse and they would talk to the woman.

Amazing how these leftist twits never seem to change behavior, only what they are screaming about.

In the realm of the written word we win hands down every time. And that is completely unacceptable to them because everybody knows that the written word is for morally and intellectually superior people /sarc/.

  2. Allow me to immediately turn to Great Britain as the example of a disarmed society that now uses knives in its violent activities. Is it a predisposition to use guns or simply a predisposition to violence? Does this predisposition exist in other societies? Can we drill down on the topic further? Who in these societies use violence to solve relationship problems? Please turn to DOJ data for a further understanding of who commits violent crime in the United States. It’s enlightening to discover the answers, but it is not the answer the New Left wants anyone to know.

    • And gun violence is going up in Britain…gun crime in London is up 42%, and gun violence across England and Wales is up 23%…..after they banned and confiscated guns….and since their social welfare system has destroyed the British family unit, young males are now more violent…and they have imported violent 3rd world males…..and to top it off, they are cutting their police manpower and resources, and putting in place the same stupid Politically correct policies that stop our police…..gun murder is about to go up in Britain…

    • Your ignoring the fact that knife violence does not result in 50 and 60 people being gunned down by maniacs that had access to deadly weapons. And in the last big Terrorist Attack the Terrorists got the shit beat out of them when they went into a bar trying to commit mass murder. The patrons beat them over the head with chairs, and went after them with broken beer bottles proving that yes Gun Laws in Britain work very well.

      • Probably because they spilled someone’s pint. And the bar patrons simply used what was at hand.

        • Yep…. considering a terrorist in France killed twice as many people with a truck in seconds than that guy in Las Vegas did with an AR15 in minutes. Also, armed attacks (terrorist or otherwise) in America are stopped by people with guns on a regular basis (about 2.5 million times a year according to the CDC). Its adorable that Cisco Kid thinks every terrorist attack is going to be a knife attack in bars full of drunk fighting aged males. You should tell that to the theater goers at Nord Ost or the kids and old ladies in Beslan. How about Mumbai where just about every cop was a Scot Peterson and every citizen was as helpless as an elementary school child because India is a disarmed Shambala. In every instance they had to wait days for elite counter terrorist teams to show up before the killing was put to an end…. but that crap doesn’t happen in ” evil gun culture” America. One wonders why.

        • No way, Crisco kid said there are no mass murders anywhere in the world, because they all disarmed their populace.

  3. Violence is inherent in our language. Didn’t you ever bomb an exam? Substitute shoot for sh*t? Take a stab at it? Cut in line. The list is virtually endless. Any questions, shoot me a PM.

  4. I would say it’s the absolute inverse, if you apply a little math and logic.

    2 Questions, asshole:

How many guns/people are out there (in America)?

How many of those guns get used (in even a slightly violent way) every day?

After being in Iraq a short time, and interacting with people over there, I’d say it’s much, much, much, harder NOT to shoot people. But a WHOLE LOT OF AMERICANS didn’t shoot anyone over there either.

This is a liberal POS (D) problem. Until we do a POS (D) eradication program (with follow-ups) POS (D) places in America are going to keep shitting stuff like this out.

  5. Statistics unequivocally prove that there’s one specific demographic predisposed to criminal violence, particularly with firearms. That’s not in dispute. The only thing uncertain is if that predisposition is genetic or not.

    • Here we go with the racist genetic Hiterite mentality. Did it ever occur to you that the availability of good jobs, better educational opportunities, affordable mental health care, strict gun control, better child rearing practices just to name a few might just be the contributing factors to extreme violence in the U.S.

      • Are you still reading the Stalinist era Soviet Propaganda? Is this mandatory reading for ANTIFA members?

And where are your colleagues? You are obviously the one who can write. Where is the one who can read and the third to keep on eye on you dangerous intellectuals? After all, you may stray into non-politically correct thoughts.

In your posts I have seen the term Hitlerite more times in the last six months than in the previous thirty years of watching historical documentaries (studying history is a hobby).

      • No Cisco kid I don’t.
Because I know plenty of people with all those disadvantages and they didn’t turn into assholes hurting people.

      • except that one group always seems the head the list….13% of the population…50% of the crime…and it seems to be a constant…

      • Crisco Kid, The problem (across the world) is not genetic, it is social structure.

The problem here, like Chiraq, is the democrat party has successfully destroyed the family and social structure of many black Americans. That leaves the young black boys on the streets with no father in the picture with no adult mail guidance except the gang bangers.

A recipe for disaster, just like your leaders planned.

        • Ironic because the filthy, subhuman Liberal Terrorists™️ have had exclusive control of Chicago for 100 years and they still can’t provide those services. IT’S BY DESIGN. The leftists lose control, FOREVER, once they allow the slaves they’ve created to leave the plantation. Don’t ever forget, democrats were the driving force of slavery in the US. They were the cause of the Civil War. They fought tooth and nail against the Civil Rights Amendment. They are the Klu Klux Klan. And still to this day, promote an agenda to continue black slave like dependency on the govt in exchange for their votes.

      • All the “other factors” you mention would affect all demographics equally, leaving (still) the question why a single demographic stands out so hugely insofar as extreme violence is concerned.

  6. Keep in mind….some estimates put the mass murder by the German Socialists at 12 million innocent people..men, women and children. if you average that out, it is a greater number than all of our criminals shooting people in the same time period….so Europe is just as blood thirsty, they just let their government do it to innocent people while 70-80% of our gun murder victims are criminals murdered by other criminals. Governments murder people in larger numbers than criminals do, and Europe has nothing to teach us a far as violence goes…

    • yea sure all the school kids were criminals, the people at the rock concert in Los Angeles were all criminals and the people at the Orlando Night Club were all criminals too.

      • Keep rubbing away with the Crisco, kid. MOST of the non-suicide gun deaths are from criminal activity. That still leaves a few thousand deaths from a population of 350 MILLION. Unfortunately this is where the mass shooting incidents fall into.

So how to you explain the murder rate more than halving since 1990, with another 100+ MILLION in the population and lots more guns in private hands.

        • quote———————So how to you explain the murder rate more than halving since 1990, with another 100+ MILLION in the population and lots more guns in private hands.————quote.

The answer is simple we have an aging population and they are the dominate majority. With age comes less testosterone and less violence its as simple as that.

        • So Cisco, you think that being on old fart means that I won’t physically harm you when you keep pushing my buttons? You might want to talk to my kids about that theory.

      • singular events…horrible as they may be…pale in comparison to the daily toll in places like chicago…

  7. Also keep in mind, the majority of our gun crime and violence is confined to democrat party controlled areas in our inner cities……as this research shows..https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2018/05/31/the-surprising-way-gun-violence-is-dividing-america/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.c89574f05f7c
Quote from the link”….In the most Democratic regions, gun violence is more often committed against another, crimes that probably generate more news coverage and fear. In the most Republican areas, it is more often committed against oneself, suicides that may not attract as much attention.
    ——
As the below charts show, Democratic areas (measured by the party that controls the congressional district) are far more likely to experience almost all forms of malicious gun violence than Republican areas.”

    • Again more Right Wing Racist Hiterlite garbage. Did it ever occur to your fuzzy little brain that poor people tend to vote Democrat so to blame Democrats for high crime in an area that has no jobs or hope and where drugs are rampant is about as ignorant as you can get.

      • Have you ever heard of “gerrymandering” voting districts, political influence groups, and even out-and-out voter fraud? All used by the Democrats to maintain power.

The Democrats can even raise the dead. Many deceased voters vote Democrat on election day.

      • don’t see people in places like west virginia shooting each other all that much…yet those same conditions prevail…

  8. For our knowledge and safety, we should all be very interested in what goes through the mind of defensive shooter or a policeman. Do I care about the rationale of the psycho or the drug dealer? Not so much.

  9. So what nationality are the various gangs, like MS-13, who crossed our borders illegally looking for the land of ‘milk & honey’, and not finding it, decided to make their own with ‘thugs & drugs’!

    DrDKW

  10. “People think, ‘Oh, I’ll get a gun. I’m gonna shoot him.’”

“People”, as in just people in general, or even Americans in general? Demographically speaking, is that really the finest level of commonality of granularity you can come up with after examining the circumstances of the majority of these shootings?

“American” is the best description of the suspect you can come up with? Geez, even the maddening, if loveable, Miss Swan from 1990s “Mad T.V.” could do better than that with her “OK, OK, details. You no say details. OK….he looka….he looka…..he looka lika man.”

In any kind of problem solving effort, one must first state the problem. Just like in the scientific method, one must begin with observations. You leftist, America-haters refuse to observe reality and define the problem.

Instead you perpetually slander the good people of the most peaceful, generous, and magnaimous country in the history of the world, just to push your statist, disarmament agenda. How F’ing DARE you???

    • Yes, it seems perhaps, just maybe, they need a definition for which Americans have the so called propensity for gun violence. I have gotten many guns, but without the intent of “shooting him” or shooting anybody really. So far I have shot precisely zero people, with no plans to solve any problems like that. I have many friends who also own guns who have not shot, nor intended to shoot, anybody.

So these “I’m gonna solve my problem with so and so by getting a gun and killing them” type people, eg, premeditated murderers, not the exception rather than the rule? If they need to get a gun, does that not imply that they aren’t actually lawful gun owners? Maybe these violent sorts are people who don’t lawfully own guns rather than people who do? Maybe they are criminals or gang members, perhaps there are some identifying characteristics?

All those violence interrupter programs all theorize only a small number of mostly known bad characters are responsible for the majority of violence in an area. They respond by trying to buy them off, but it seems if you have known bad actors but you prefer to just buy shot spotters and hold gun buy backs, hoping the bad actors will voluntary reform themselves…. Yeah not going to work.

      • You guys said pretty much what I was thinking.

Daniel Patinkin says, “People think, ‘Oh, I’ll get a gun. I’m gonna shoot him.’” Which people, Daniel?

There are 300 million residents and 400 million guns in the US. If all of us were doing that, we’d all be dead already. Some people think that way…but who are they? The answer to that is easy to see, but some people just don’t want to see it.

  11. Interestingly showing a map of Chiraq…not long ago gun laws were much more draconion. No pistol ownership,no CCL(except the connected) and MUCH HIGHER homicide rates. As in 800-over 900 murders per annum. And the vast majority of Chicago’s shooter’s are black and brown. Laws don’t change evil behavior…

    • It never occurred to you (it never does to racists) that high crime areas are always areas where there is high unemployment, few high paying jobs (except for those who are well educated) few opportunities for affordable higher education or job training in the skilled trades and high numbers of people addicted to drugs because they have given up and dropped out of society.

Yes only the ignorant blame high crime on the race of people. It proves we as a nation should make it mandatory that all people have at least 2 years of College as well as free job training programs and free higher education. The rest of the civilized world did this long ago. We used to do it too when many manufactures had free job training programs for their workers but that was before the businesses went full greed monger and simply did away with such programs to save money for their upper managements already obscene huge multi-million dollar salaries.

      • Stop saying ‘we’ like you’re “we” communist.

And, you’re not male, and you speak-a da big anglesh badly.

        • Free free free free you know what my old man gave me free advice and today I’m doing okay because I took that advice, ( get a fucking job any job till a better one comes along )

      • Untrue. I worked in manufacturing my entire career. Unskilled workers are trained for free in nearly every manufacturing plant I’ve ever seen. All it requires is someone who is willing to a) show up and b) listen, learn and do. A hard worker with average intelligence can quickly learn skills to generate a very good wage- often more than someone with a college degree. But they have to be able to read, do basic math (and some trig) and take direction. I’ve had to let go of workers who weren’t willing to do “menial” tasks along the way of being entrusted with a half million dollar machine which can throw off chunks of shrapnel 50 yards if mishandled.

Why is it that democrats, who say they have all the answers, keep these voters in poverty and without jobs? Could it be that doing so gurantees a lock on those districts by promising welfare in place of jobs at the businesses they’ve destroyed?

        • quote——————–DaveDetroit says:

As I stated before that was true only in the past. Today manufacturers are crying for people skilled in the trades but none are to be had in anywhere near the numbers that they once existed in. In my area Zero manufactures pay out of their own pocket to train their workers in-house or out of house. Now there are exceptions I will admit but they are very few and far between.

        • Cisco, it is good to know that Australian companies do not pay to train their workers.

    • ATF has been trying that… [give them credit for doing some real police work for a change]…but it already has proven costly…..

  12. I was amused that the author reported some of his interviewees had a negative prison experience. The implication being that some people have positive prison experiences (or, at least, they should).

  13. “It’s a truism of gun politics in America that white people can get away with things people of color cannot.”

WTF, what is the homicide clearance rate for “people of color”? “White people” have a much harder time getting away with murder.

  14. “Americans Are Uniquely Predisposed to Gun Violence” says the headline. Actually, all humans are hard-wired and predisposed to violence in general, and have been since the early days of the development of our species. Violence is a defense mechanism developed against predators and rivals to prevent being killed and eaten, and to ensure that the food and desirable mating partners were not taken by somebody else. See Desmond Morris’s books “The Naked Ape” (1967) and “The Human Zoo” (1969). The latter book is especially interesting because it explores the effect that civilization and living in cities have had on the formerly pastoral human species. While urban humanity has compiled a list of magnificent achievements, the effect of being cooped up in cities under the restrictions imposed by civilization can be negative and inspire more violence and mayhem.

  15. Seth Ferranti:

It’s a truism of gun politics in America that white people can get away with things people of color cannot.

Being called a “white person” is offensive.
I am a person of pale.

  16. “Americans Are Uniquely Predisposed to Gun Violence”

Based on that map of Chiraq, I think that the author should have included an adjective and a hyphen before the word “Americans.”

  17. America is predisposed to codling criminals,it’s not a gun violence problem as I’ve never seen a gun become violent but rather the person with direct contact with a firearm.

    • Prisons are not the solution as we have one of the highest incarceration rates already in the world and incarceration under the NIxon years did not work. In fact it made it far worse because when a person gets out of prison he has no job skills and goes right back into a life of crime. Recently NPR did a study on people who under the Nixon Years were locked up for 20 years for non violent crimes and found that when they got out many had never even seen a computer and did not know that without one and the skill to use it today you cannot even begin to look for a decent paying job.

  18. “So, although Trump has publicly blamed mental illness for our gun violence epidemic, he has actually taken action that makes it easier for the mentally ill to acquire weapons”

The sound you hear is whatever shred of credibility Daniel J. Patinkin might have had being sucked out the airlock. What a hack.

    • Once advised that their possession of a firearm would be illegal, no further harassment of the mentally ill is acceptable. What did Trump do to help the mentally ill obtain a firearm, legally? I think you’re full of it. If it’s already against the law, enforce the law before wishing to pass yet more laws.

      • “What did Trump do to help the mentally ill obtain a firearm, legally? ”

Trump put a stop to non-medical personnel, bureaucrats, using checklists of behaviors like needing assistance to file for benefits, manage bank accounts as “mentally ill”. Trump eliminated the restrictions, and “restored” 2A rights for people who were unfairly, unjustly denied 2A rights. Thus the “mentally ill” can now more easily obtain firearms.

Stopping abuse of rights is now considered making life more dangerous for the “nice people”.

  19. Only a Right Wing Moron would argue that mentally ill people and criminals should have full access to deadly weapons but its true. In the U.S. Local and State gun control laws are a joke because anyone can buy a deadly weapon from private sales and at many gun shows. The madness only results in States that have lax gun laws funneling guns into States that have strict laws and the black market in guns is a multi-million dollar enterprise that results in thousands of needless deaths on a hourly bases, its insanity beyond all civilized comprehension.

Europe and Japan realized the problem decades ago and their lower homicide rate reflects their much stricter gun control laws which include safe storage laws to proven theft and children dying in rivers of blood so common in the U.S. where 1,300 children die a year and many more remain crippled for life.

Although the Far Right Unwashed claim Europe’s gun laws are a failure because of terrorists attacks little do the ignorant Morons realize most terrorist acts are financed and supplied with weapons from foreign counties which is an act of war and no country at war obeys gun control laws so blaming Europe’s terrorism on failed gun control laws is pure bullshit pure and simple.

    • “…States that have lax gun laws funneling guns into States that have strict laws…results in thousands of needless deaths on a hourly bases…”

I’ll do you the favor of ignoring your innumeracy, your ridiculous hyperbole, and your grammar and spelling problems.

Instead, I’ll ask you this: If the availability of guns is the problem, then how do the pro-gun states on the supply side of this “iron river of blood” have less violent crime than their neighboring states with strict laws?

Take Chicago, for instance: The same guns (and more of them) aren’t a problem in Indiana, but when they cross the border into Chicago they’re involved in dozens of shootings on a weekly basis. What conclusion should we draw from that fact?

      • ING, don’t waste your time with this lib. As with most libs, he is brain dead. Savage hit’s it on the head in his book Liberalism Is A Mental Disorder.

        • Their Commissar is looking over his/her (gender fluidity) posts to make sure they are politically correct, as in the original term where it meant following the Moscow CPSU edicts.

        • When I do respond to people (to use the term very loosely) like Crisco, it’s not because I hope to persuade them. Those idiots are a lost cause. I respond because internet arguing is a spectator sport, and the more well-reasoned responses we have, the stronger contrast we draw between People of the Gun and the unhinged totalitarians who hate our civil rights.

      • to ing

quote————————–Take Chicago, for instance: The same guns (and more of them) aren’t a problem in Indiana, but when they cross the border into Chicago they’re involved in dozens of shootings on a weekly basis. What conclusion should we draw from that fact?———————quote

Reading comprehension Jethro, reading comprehension. I suggest you have your wife read the above post and explain things to you.

Without a Federal law that which would cover all states the individual state laws are meaningless.

        • except that the draconian universal laws that you propose are politically unpalatable and totally unnecessary in most parts of the country….or would you expose us to the lowest common denominator for the sake of a few?

        • To speak the wrong response Frank

quote——————-except that the draconian universal laws that you propose are politically unpalatable and totally unnecessary in most parts of the country….or would you expose us to the lowest common denominator for the sake of a few?————————–

Try again Frank. “the few” get real talk to the tens of thousands of grieving families about what “few” actually means.

        • Cisco, go back and read YOUR OWN POST. Then look at mine, and then do some thinking about who comprehends what. (On second thought, never mind….it’s pointless, because you don’t think; you only regurgitate.)

    • If what you spout were true, we here in Wyoming would have rivers of blood in our streets.

But we don’t. We have rates of homicide (and other major crimes) that are, in many cases, lower than those of major urban areas of Europe, Canada, etc.

      • quote———————-If what you spout were true, we here in Wyoming would have rivers of blood in our streets.

But we don’t. We have rates of homicide (and other major crimes) that are, in many cases, lower than those of major urban areas of Europe, Canada, etc.———————quote

You really cannot see the forest for the trees, I suggest you go back and slow down and read my post so that you can comprehend the entire picture of the gun problem in the U.S.

        • it really isn’t a problem country-wide….just concentrated in certain urban areas…and certainly no justification for the rest of us giving up our rights…which is what you would have us do…

    • Comrade Kid,

Your trite agitation propaganda falls far short of striking home because of the unnecessarily heightened emotional rhetoric. Or, are you that simplistic that you actually believe your list of leftist/progressive/socialist/Stalinist yelling points? By the way, it is really low quality when name calling the best you can do. Although you have a compulsion for run on sentences, you writing ability has some potential. Please try again. I love revisiting 1930’s Communist propaganda quotes. Perhaps something from the Lenin Collection next time. Thanks for the fun.

      • Reply to Felix the Cat

History proves you wrong as the rest of the entire Industrialized world has done something about civilians who should not have guns. We have done zero.

        • zero??????….do you have any idea how many gun laws are already on the books?

Your question is totally irrelevant . Ask the Australians how long it took them to implement their gun control laws as they had tens of thousands of unregistered guns at one time.

    • with a breakdown in borders in the new unified europe it’s relatively easy for terrorists to acquire weapons in the balkans and then drive them to the country of their choice

    • “Only a Right Wing Moron would argue that mentally ill people and criminals should have full access to deadly weapons but its true. In the U.S. Local and State gun control laws are a joke because anyone can buy a deadly weapon from private sales and at many gun shows.”

The purchases you describe would be ILLEGAL. Your problem is that prosecuting that crime would involve prosecuting the actual offender, you wish instead to prosecute the law-abiding seller rather than the criminal purchaser. We simply MUST imprison the law abiding in order to save those wonderful violent criminals. Get over it, it is ending.

  20. I’m really getting tiredof this gun show loophole B.S. ll of the gun show’s I’ve been to are about 95 % dealers who must do NICS or State DOJ background checks. Why may I ask is this article even on this site?

    • quite—————I’m really getting tiredof this gun show loophole B.S. ll of the gun show’s I’ve been to are about 95 % dealers who must do NICS or State DOJ background checks. Why may I ask is this article even on this site?—————quote

The article is on this site because it reflects the truth and that is that through private sales and gun shows anyone can and does get all the deadly firepower they want to commit crime and murder. What part of this do you not understand????????

      • What I fail to understand is this; since those purchases are already illegal, how do you propose to make them more illegaller? Let me guess-by prosecuting the bystander rather than the offender, right?

        • quote———————What I fail to understand is this; since those purchases are already illegal, how do you propose to make them more illegaller? Let me guess-by prosecuting the bystander rather than the offender, right?———————–quote

They go it because they can and if private sales were illegal as well as gun show sales illegal without background checks tens of thousands of sales would be prevented. The History of the Brady Bill in monitoring new gun sales has proved this for decades.

        • if private sales were illegal… tens of thousands of sales would be prevented.

So what you’re saying is that if we were to make murder illegal, then tens of thousands of murders would be prevented? Maybe even millions?

What a brilliant idea!!! I wonder why no one has already thought of that? I’m gonna get started right away, gonna call up my congressmen and have them pass federal laws to make murder illegal… for the children, of course.

          Moron.

        • this is much ado about nothing…most criminals get their guns through theft or straw-purchasing…this is common knowledge so why the push?

        • “…this is common knowledge so why the push?”

          1. Not common knowledge to the low information potted plant
          2. “If it saves just one life…”

    • It’s a straw man argument…few, if any criminals acquire their guns this way….and this applies to mass shooters as well….

      • private sales usually involve a very small amount of firearms that were privately owned and are usually sold for small amounts of cash…anything more than this is “engaging in the business”…and will get you noticed very quickly….

      • Totally agree. The vast majority of weapons I’ve purchased over the decades were from FFL dealers. Some in private trades only a few private party purchases. That’s in 45 years of shooting.

  21. I might add with the growing gap between the top 1 per cent who rule the U.S. in a sham democracy and the 99 per cent of troglodyte working people, many who now make less than $30,000 a year, is a breeding ground for hopelessness and despair which leads to alcohol and drug addiction, both of which are left largely untreated because of a lack of a paid for National Health Care System that the rest of the Civilized World has had for well over 3/4 of a century. During the last 50 years the loss of high paying Union Jobs has fallen to an all time level and in the bigger cities as many as 4 generation of people have not shared in the American Dream. In the past even the unskilled could get high paying jobs in the steel and auto industry that provided a very high standard of living due to the courageous acts and history of American Unions who today are been emasculated and are only a mere shell of what they once were.

The vast increase in suicides reflect a growing sense of hopelessness and the younger generation is indeed aware that America is in no way the greatest place on earth to live anymore and what is worse our sham democracy and corrupt system leave no hope for the younger generation wanting at least what there parents and grand parents once had and that is a decent life in a non violent world.

We spend over 54 per cent of all tax dollars on a bloated wasteful military budget to wage incessant wars of rape pillage and conquest so the filthy rich can make fabulous amounts of money from the military industrial complex while the American people are left with virtually no safety net Social Programs , no paid for education, roads and bridges that are unsafe , a rising drug addiction rate, suicide rate, and we do not even have a civilized high speed rail system that even smaller countries less rich than our own have had for decades.

    • Comrade Kid,

Please maintain you rolling commentary. You make this forum quite enjoyable. Without it we’re stuck with Bernie Sanders statements that grow tiresome with his constant whines about how capitalism is destroying the planet and how his wife is an innocent dupe of the ruling class. I hope you hang around Tovarch and that you contribute heavily to your leftist causes. Your presence bring happiness to our existence.

    • I’m with you on most of that…but when it comes to gun control we part company…besides, this issue has been a traditional loser for the democratic party….just leave it alone….

  22. “We’ve spawned a new race here- rougher and simpler, more violent, more enterprising, and less refined. We’re a new nationality and we require a new nation.”

    B. Franklin, 1776

    • Franklin by the way was a racist who said “All of these Germans coming here are going to destroy the American way of life and change America forever. The destroy part was wrong but yes they did change it and that was for the better.

The same was said when the Irish came here as they were hated by the Protestants because they were Catholic and the same was said of the East Europeans when they came as well.

        • Please, please stop responding to this total idiot. I’m guessing “it” is a troll, but in any case everyone please do as I do and as soon as you see ‘it’s” name on the heading, just delete it. It seems like all I’m doing all day is deleting “it’s emails.

        • to Little Ping Brain

quote:———————-Hitler was an Austrian, not a German, you ignoramus.—————quote————————

I never made that statement. Saying “Hitler’s Germany” does not signify Hitler was German. Although the question of whether he was an Austrian or German has been debated for decades as he and his family lived on the border between the two countries and people often intermarried making things even more complicated.

      • Yo, Kid, if you cannot get through a discussion without holding forth about your racial theories, then you are a racist. Work on it.

  23. “the option to resolve problems with a gun is uniquely American” Not uniquely. It happens in plenty of other countries. The thing is, here in America we know which demographic does most of the shooting, but we’re not allowed to talk about it. Hint: they aren’t NRA members.

  24. White Americans commit crimes of all types at about the same rate as white Europeans. Black Americans commit crimes at roughly the same rate as black Africans. Mexican Americans commit crimes at about the same rate as Mexicans.

People are what they are. When you blame a piece of metal for the difference, you only fool yourself.

  25. One thing that I got out of the article is the author’s mental imbalance related to guns and anyone associated with them.

I first leaned about that imbalance years ago when talking with a liberal acquaintance and former coworker. His response to me being willing to shoot someone who was an immediate danger to me and my family was, “I’d sure hate to live in your neighborhood.” This was a hypothetical situation but because of it he was afraid of me.

I think that was the last time I ever talked to him.

    • Sounds to me like he was thinking, somewhere deep down, about how enjoyable it would be to threaten women and small children. After all, he’s in no danger at all if he just leaves other people alone.

  26. Americans in general? No.

BLACK PEOPLE? Yep. They’re predisposed to violence worldwide.

Also brown people, those descended from Amerindians. Anywhere these particular two races of people gather in any sort of number is historically going to be disproportionately violent.

See Chicago. Memphis. Oakland. New Orleans. South Africa. Nicaragua. El Salvador. Etc….

  27. Agreed.

    • depends on who’s monitoring the posts…but, yeah….it happens quite often…even on WAPO…who, you’d think, would know better
