I am not now nor have I ever been a Marvel comic geek. Fan? Whatever. The whole superhero thing leaves me cold, especially when every movie ends with an epic (read interminable) fight scene where the good guys/Israeli chick win. I might be wrong about that . . .
I gave up on Marvel movies and TV a while ago. So the following from cbr.com (great bike BTW) falls on my stone deaf ears:
In the premiere of the show’s third season, Mack journeyed with Daisy Johnson to recruit Lincoln Campbell for the spy agency’s Secret Warriors program. During their pitch, the three are attacked by the Inhuman Lash, whereupon Mack makes the offhand remark that begins it all. “I need a bigger gun, or my ax… maybe a shotgun/ax combination of some sort.” . . .
We got our first look at the Shotgun Axe when Mack had to Dead Rising one out of his dad’s old shotgun and the butcher knife in his brother’s house. It was clear that this was going to be a slow burn, as the question changed from whether the Shotgun Axe would be a thing to when it would be a thing . . .
Like the Agents themselves, the Shotgun Axe has been through a lot over the last two years, from slicing up duplicitous LMDs to trying to dispose of evil ghosts. It even briefly made its way into space during the first half of the current season where it got to do what few weapons can dream of: Kill mindless aliens in space and impale an alien tyrant.
How great is that? Not so great that I want one. At all. You?
That doesn’t seem practical…
What’s worse is I’m now stuck thinking of ways to make it practical.

On a more serious note I would be concerned that repeated use of the shotaxe as an axe would risk deforming the barrel.
Ha. And you can’t chop firewood with a broken handle. Well, I can’t.
I’d wager that Axeberg would be sure to suffer a more terrible fate than a deformed barrel. And in less time than repeated used. But even a Mossberg could handle a bit of Stabby McStabingutensile.
The US Army did field trial a “trowel bayonet” to allow troops to dig quick defensive positions. Although I do wonder if the rifle’s bore was plugged with dirt afterwards.
A SMLE with the pre-WWI long bayonet or a Mauser with the attached blade bayonet may be more practical.
A shotgun axe comes under the heading of a Hollywood w**ker weapon. Not even in the “awesome but impractical” category. Too many problems and not enough solutions.
SC, I don’t bel;ieve the trowel bayonet was intended to be left on the rifle for digging.
According to “Forgotten Weapons” it was. The handle was a socket type attachment like the Mosin-Nagant 91/30 bayonet.
On the subject of trowel bayonets, I have seen several of those dating from the time of the US Civil War at the Fuller gun Museum, which I highly recommend if you are ever in the North Georgia area headed south from Chattanooga on I-75. It is located at the North End of the Chattanooga Chickamauga National Battlefield. I highly recommend giving yourself a few hours to see it, if guns of that era are of interest to you.
No, according to ‘forgotten weapons’ it was NOT intended to be left on the barrel, because that would be stupid.
…but troops did it anyway, because, well yeah.
Totally better if it had a shoulder thing that goes up. Without that, its just too front heavy.
Easy enough to build, but you would have to reinforce the hell out of the magazine tube or it would crumple.
Since a lot of pump shotguns have removable barrels you would have to also strengthen that connection.
If it’s a Mossberg it has an aluminum receiver.
I see no good coming from mounting an axe to your shotgun. Even in a hollywood fantasy.

Marvel weirdness. Fantasy item. Agents of Shield HAS gotten better but I’m thinking it’s run it’s course after Infinity War. And I started buying Marvel comics in 1964…
Reenforce the barrel/mag/heat shield… and I wouldn’t use a bearded axe (or reverse the blade so it’s a really fat bayonet)… and probably add a stock.
But other than that it could be a cool TV weapon.
Ok, I can get into gadget weapons as gadget weapons,
or range toys. I can get behind oddities, and can see value
where others cannot. I can like and even buy things just because
they are awesome or cool.
This thing, as seen, simply will not work very well as an axe or a shotgun.
If it could, or it did, I’d be all over some version of it, just because it is awesome.
Now, If there were a decent bayonet system for the Mossberg shockwave,

Ok. I’ll confess. I love both the character Mack and his shotgun axe.
Who cares if it’s practical? It’s agents of shield for crying out loud. The whole thing is built out of b rated marvel characters.
If it was actually useable, I could hack some tree limbs, maybe split some logs with it, I’d buy the ever living crap out of it. Some weird infatuation I have with bearded weapons, might be my Scandinavian blood.
Either way, Mossberg, if you’re watching, make it work. I’m a buyer.
Okay, a really short Terminator-style whippet shotgun with a hatchet/hawk style vertical foregrip spike thing *could* be cool, but you also might lose an eye twirl-loading it
From a auto-burglar super-shorty standpoint, it would make a little more sense than a bayonet, and essentially turn the little thing into a slashing tool
I’ve never been all that into shotguns, but I can appreciate a good axe.
That said, this combination makes me want both. In that configuration. I don’t care if I don’t need it, I want it. Someone, anyone, make it happen! If we can put a revolver inside a knife, then why not an axe at the end of a beefed up shotgun?

I’ve seen that attachment before. Apparently, it didn’t even ship sharp. Either an expensive gag product, or they were hoping it would find use as a prop. If the latter, mission accomplished, I guess?
