Not the only Makarov out their being used for EDC, but still relatively unusual. It’s always interesting when a model like the Makarov shows up as part of a pocket dump. Fifteen years ago we could find them under $100 – even $70, if memory serves – and they remain inexpensively priced in comparison to many handguns on the market.
Does anyone here have a Makarov? Which variant?

As soon as I actually looked at the picture, I thought I had seen that mak before, that blue slide and matte frame and clean grips, I don’t know if that is just a nice factory sample or refinished, looks different than my bulgy.
No. It’s because they keep the help way too busy writing ‘news items’ that are actually ad copy. Thus they have little time left to notice they’re just repeating yestermonth’s shit stories that nobody wanted to read in the first place.
It’s not a one time mistake, its a pattern of behavior.

I was never a huge fan of his comedy. He was too frantic and over the top. Maybe the cocaine. A few minutes of his routines was enough for me. I was pretty dismissive of him.
And then I saw him in a serious dramatic role and my opinion changed completely. He could act. He shared the screen with Al Pacino and matched him or did better.
His death was a tragedy. But he proved that suicide was not dependent on guns. If you really want to do the job firearms are not needed.
In an interview, Johnny Carson asked Williams (this was right after he did ‘The Fisher King’) if he could choose, would he do comedy or act. It really stressed Williams out, because he wanted to do both. Of course, he cracked a funny and said said doing comedy was lots cheaper than therapy.
I have heard from people that Williams really could turn the funny on instantly like a switch, and it was *fast*. His mind blazed at a million miles an hour. He was true genius…

What’s not to like? There was a gun shop near my home that routinely sold them for 99 bucks. For that money you got a simple, proven design that worked.
If I was low income and needed a gun I would rather have a Mak than a Hi Point.
Got one. Sprung for the chrome version, but I kinda want to get a second Makarov with a more typical blued or parkerized finish. The Fab Defense grip I bought just looks wrong with the chrome; like putting a neon undercarriage on a DeSoto.
I’ve got an older stainless one in 9×18. Ammo is cheap.
Used it to teach my daughter how to shoot pistol.
I have an East German Mak. DA trigger pull is about 90 pounds and gritty. The Euro eronomics are just terrible, especially for a back-assward lefty. It is pretty heavy for its size. Pretty cool collectors item but I never shoot it anymore and would never dream of using it to defend myself.
X Wife had a Makarov, she liked it.
Have an Izhevsk produced commercial Makarov. Takes the exact same magazines, the only difference is the rear sight and the chambering is .380. It was made in the same plant with the same tooling as the military pistols.
Pretty fun piece of history with easier to find ammo in my area.
I switch between a P64 Radom and a Bulgarian Makarov, have for years. Sturdy and reliable guns that eat whatever ammo I run through them.
I also like the heavy DA trigger pull, I carry with a round chambered and the safety off, hammer down.
Nobody carries a Makorov by choice. I advise you examine your life and make changes.
I have the very dark blued version. Almost completely black. It is also the rare double stack mag variety with 10 round mags. Have 5 mags for it. Mags are “very” expensive last time I checked (for this variety). Also have a form fitting fobus holster for it. It’s russian manufacture – IMES – IJ70.
