EDFX, a self-described pirate from Florida, sends in his Spartan March 2019 everyday emsemble, courtesy Everyday Carry.

Yes, another person who doesn’t need any keys.  Or in this case, a smart phone.  Or, for that matter a flip phone.  (Yes, those are still a thing for some dinosaurs.)

He also doesn’t carry with a round in the chamber of his “custom” Glock 43!  I do sort of like the distressed look on the outside (with a dash of bling!), but I’d be a lot more impressed if that gun was ready for action.  After all, what sort of self-respecting pirate carries an unloaded gun?  He does carry a Leatherman Wingman for those times he needs to clamp off a squirting artery or tighten a shoelace (tourniquet).

Everyone and their dog is carrying those O-light mini-baton flashlights.  The S1R II has a 1000 lumen max output, along with a handy charger, rechargeable battery and everything a grown man or woman needs for a super-bright light in a tiny package.  For not a lot of cash.

How long does one get that blazing output on that tiny rechargeable CR123R battery?

  1. What exactly does is a self-described pirate mean?
My next question, what is a spartan carry?
    “A Florida Pirate’s Spartan Carry’?

    • The Sparta reference must be because he runs around fighting alligators, fleeing zombies, raising a turtle army, driving drunkenly in lawnmowers, all while shouting “this…is…Florida…man!”

That’s the only reason I could justify that repeated edc post and ghastly goldiglock.

  2. Looks like he needs to re do that fake gold finish on that pirate gat. Also some advice for those who are scared to carry with a round in the chamber: it’s a perfectly normal fear, but one that you need to overcome. The vast majority of carriers go through that phase. I got over it by carrying a revolver for a number of years, until I got to the point where a loaded chamber just simply didn’t bother me.

  3. {1,000 Lumen output}

“How long does one get that blazing output on that tiny rechargeable CR123R battery?”

Not long, but that’s the least of his worries.

At a 1,000 lumen output, that LED is gonna generate a *lot* of heat, and the host is so small, it simply won’t be able to sustain that output more than a few minuets. When it begins to overheat, the LED will begin to ‘roll back’ the lumens. It’s simply the physics of the semiconductor LED.

But that light isn’t intended to be run long and hard, it’s on a keychain, for cryin’ out loud. It will be fine for most folks…

  4. Can you please stop recycling this person’s carry? Until recently it seems like it was used every few weeks, just with a slightly different light or knife. The crap paint job gives it away as does his occupation as a “pirate”. You’d have to be a pirate or color blind to find this gun attractive. Seems like every new person who takes over the pocket “dump” seems to lose their mind over this gun.

    • Every drunk I knew in my sailing days called themselves a “pirate”. However, if you asked them who somebody like Henry Every was you’d get a fish look. Perhaps Black Sails has given today’s “pirates” a passing acquaintance with a few pirates names though.

      • The only pirates left in Florida own restaurants and bars that cater to the tourists. Cheap booze and imported fish previously frozen.

  5. Carrying a semi-auto with 6+1 but taking away the +1 and making it so you have to rack the slide before firing?

Doesn’t make sense to me but maybe he’s such a good gunfighter that he wants to give his opponent a leg up.

    • Last thing I heard, Warren Buffet still carries a flip phone. Nice to have a life without looking at a screen all the time- you miss a lot. Probably why a lot of the boys today are seriously lacking in testosterone. Of course, they won’t get #MeToo’d by fondling their iPhone, either.

As for the unchambered round, what’s the dif betwen a chambered round in a G43 and a full cylinder on a J Frame? Keep your damn finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot…

    • I carried an i-phone for 10 years before coming to my senses about 5 months ago. now i am back to the flip phone. the fist 90 days was torture. I had major screen withdrawals.

Now i love noticing whats going on in the world around me. I actually have to get on a computer to go to a website, i don’t swerve all over the road as much, and i have quality conversations with actual people more often.

Truth be told, i wish i had made the switch sooner.

  6. Hey, whatever floats his boat. I only keep a round chambered because of the long trigger pull in my carry pisols.

  7. Whenever I see a pocket dump, no one ever carries a non-lethal form of defense, such as pepper gel, collapsible baton, taser or stun gun? Will they always use deadly force, even if the bad guy does not display a lethal weapon? That’s a quick way to prison! Even LE carry multiple non-lethal weapons.

    • “Seen the Elephant?”, eh Hugh…good on you, glad you survived. If all you’re packin’ is a hammer sooner or later everything starts lookin’ like a nail. Nobody ever walked away saying, “I’m lucky I survived, I was carrying way too much gear.” I keep my hands free, my options open and my responses determined by MY preferences. -30-

    • “Will they always use deadly force, even if the bad guy does not display a lethal weapon? That’s a quick way to prison!”

That’s a flat out bullshit statement Hugh, you troll. An attacker does not need a weapon to present lethal force. Bare fists and feet kill more people per year then “assault rifles” do. One solid blow from a closed fist to your temple can kill you in one strike.

    • Real pirates held their knives between their teeth and kept their hands free to handle the riggin’ and the cutlass. “One hand for my ship, the other for me, myself.” Everybody wants to be a pirate ’til it’s time to do…Methinks maybe someone has attended one too many Jimmy Buffet concerts. Here lies the last one…cause of death? Same as the rest, “delusions of adequacy”. -30-

      • “Real pirates held their knives between their teeth and kept their hands free to handle the riggin’ and the cutlass.”

After spitting on their hands and before the requisite ‘slitting of throats’…

  8. Pocket dump is a totally boring waste of time. JEEZ….. review some guns….anything but this repetative crap. Who cares?
