Testimony of Manuel Martinez in Salem, Oregon on April 5: “In 1959 a revolution … individuals — malicious individuals, masquerading as democrats — revolutionaries, established a regime, a dictatorial regime, in my nation. Called communism, socialism, Stalinism, Marxism, and whatever other named -ism you want to put on it. The reason was it was done was to take away the guns from the people. The right of the people to wear guns. That is a God-given right. It’s not given by anybody. It’s not given by any group. It’s the same thing as freedom, which is a God-given right. And no one, absolutely no one, has the authority to take it away. To cease to defend the Second Amendment, and my God-given right of freedom, will cease only with my death. I’ve been through it. I’ve been there. You people don’t know what freedom is because you never lost it.”

        • Bingo. A Statist on Reddit was confused when I said that there is a big difference between a candidate who promotes low taxes losing and a candidate who promotes giving people “free” stuff winning.

  1. Wait a minute. I thought that Cuba was the land of sunshine,
happiness, the world’s greatest health care and unicorns. This
guy’s obviously been brain washed by the right-wing crazed
military-industrial complex. Doesn’t he realize how much
better off he would have been if he stayed?

  2. After innumerable discussions with gun grabbers, I have come to the conclusion that they do not know or understand our form of government, that the People, not the government, is sovereign. They have not read the Declaration of Independence. They have not read the Constitution, they do not understand that the Bill of Rights guarantees are not freedoms granted to us by the government but instead freedoms that we reserved to ourselves that the government has no power to take away. People who have been enslaved by their government and escaped, who have had to pass a citizenship test, these people understand freedom.

  3. He demonstrated using historical facts, that loss of a people’s right to bear arms leads directly to the loss of freedom. Not once or twice but numerous times over modern history. Sadly though, the common thread of thought in this country is…..”Yeah, but that couldn’t possibly happen here.” One wonders how many people in those countries mentioned said exactly the same thing as their rights were stripped…………….history often gets repeated by those who forget it.

“Arms in the hands of the citizens may be used at individual discretion for the defense of the country, the overthrow of tyranny or private self-defense.” John Adams

    • Not just modern history. When the Roman Empire conquered a country, they immediately confiscated all the weapons from the populace.

(Source: “A Short History of the Roman Empire”, by William Emerton Heitland)

      • Very true, However using ancient history would likely be laughed out of any committee hearing, or justify “well, we are not saying you cannot have ball and powder”.

  4. There’s so much bad information being put out by journalist and other media that something has to be done. I propose that journalists and others who are engaged in media activities ( news, talk shows blogs etc…) be required to submit to an background check before they can engage in media. They will all be required to register their credentials, and be subject to have their credentials revoked if they engage in speech that is dangerous to the community.

  5. “God-given”

3x in one paragraph. The Founders understood what they were doing and were smarter than most of us who freqent this site – let alone the general public. All were Theists and most were Christians – not an Atheist in the bunch. This struggle we are in is one of world views; one is theistic the other is atheistic and utilitarian. If there is no supreme source for law (A Law-Giver a.k.a. God) then law(s) is subject to any change that suits the culture – enter your choice of collective “ism” that this man mentions.

    * Franklin was not a Deist – or at least a “good” one. Deists do not adjure men to pray and he did just that.

    • Jefferson went through the Bible and edited out all the supernatural elements, and if you read his other writing, it’s clear he’s quite skeptical of religion. Also, don’t you find it odd that if they were all so convinced that God was the source of law, the word doesn’t appear at all in the Constitution, and the only mentions of religion at all are restrictions (Congress shall make no law, no religious test)?

      • Yet Jefferson claimed to be a Christian (even though he was not one). There are many more men than Jefferson or Franklin who founded this nation . . . in fact hundreds.

The only mention of religion are restrictions?

“or prohibiting the free exercise thereof” . . . maybe a restriction on government.

You know full well that Declaration of independence cites the Creator as the source of inalienable rights. What you may not know is that the various 13 state constitutions contained
“religious tests” for who could hold office in those states.

The Founders were Theists and largely Christian. This informed their views on politics. Are you challenging this? If you do not think that God was the source of law to the Founders then what would you say was?

I close w/ this quote from Samuel Adams:

“The right to freedom being the gift of Almighty God, it is not in the power of man to alienate this gift and voluntarily become a slave.”

  6. My video response:

It’s great to hear the liberal – progressive talk about how awesome gun control is. Look at world history: disarming the good guys only works out well for the bad guys. If I’m at a mass stabbing or shooting, I’ll shoot the psychopath if I get the chance. Obama and Biden will tell you to sit tight and wait for the police. That advice sure didn’t work in Sandy Hook or Aurora.

  7. This guy conveniently forgets to mention that the dictatorial regime that kicked him out of the country replaced another dictatorial regime that was just as oppressive.

And, of course, the whole notion that “it was done was to take away the guns from the people” is just plain idiotic. Castro was not about to give his subjects unlimited access to firearms lest they do to him what he did to Batista, but it was a tool used to maintain power, not a goal in and of itself.

  8. My step mother and family fled Cuba as Castro took over. She warned us growing up of people who speak of knowing what is best for you. They do not have your best intentions at heart.

Castro was a charismatic leader who told the people what they wanted to hear. Once he was in power things changed much for the worse. Sounds similar to current events with my limited knowledge.

  9. My parents are both Cubans and they tell me this every single day. They always quote one of Castro’s speeches “Armas para qué” or “Weapons for what?” This sounds like the same thing that’s going on now here in the states. I just really hope this doesn’t turn out the same or I would be reliving my parents history by fleeing the country of my birth because of the freedoms that I have lost.

Here’s the speech where I got the quote from. Straight from the horses mouth. And by horse I really mean ass.

  10. You know whats gona happen when they try to take the guns from the Cubans exiled in the US ???
    AL MACHETE!!!!!!!
Ask the Spanish what happened to their strong armadas when they try to take down and oppress the Cubans, country men in horse back and with a machete in their hand terrorized the armed spaniard armies with less than half the men they had, no equipment, no military training or background on nothing but hard work in the country side.
Thats why when I see Ovomit, I mean Obama talking I just remember sitting there when I was a child listening to the 4hr long speeches Fidel would force on the population, the same exact shit rhetoric. Fidel broke the Cuban’s back the same way they are doing it here, incrementally, very slowly, step by step, promising free shit for everyone, the same then in 1959 Cuba, as today 2013 U.S. The totalitarian tip-toe, look it up, explain very well how this mass mind control over populations work.
Get angry and fight back against the communists here in US, SPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A CUBAN, YOU KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT.
