From Phoenix, AZ, John Wallace sends his “My First EDC” via Everyday Carry.
John, age 25, writes that he worked as a cop in another state before coming to the Grand Canyon State. He’s now got a job selling high-end automobiles. Just for us, he lays out the stuff in his pockets along with an explanation.
So I was in law enforcement but moved states and career for a short time. This was really my first kinda EDC. Recently I caught the themed EDC bug! So I took a picture of what it is now so I can see how it changes over the next few weeks/months and felt like sharing it. This is very much based around the leather due to working with high end vehicle customers so that’s why I chose the leather. I plan to get back to LE soon so my next EDC will be a more tactical feel using FDE to play off the AZ desert. I hope someone enjoys seeing this. Thanks
I get the leather for the more visible, non-self-defense items. However, for many of us, functionality beats color choices.
The GLOCK 21SF (SF for Short Frame, not Special Forces, San Francisco, Science Fiction, Super Friendly, Star Fleet or State Farm) is a lot of gun. It shoots the .45 ACP and Mr. Wallace carries second magazine of ballistic love each day. Hope he’s got a nice belt to hold his pants up.
He wears a MVMT Chrono Black watch with a leather watchband and keeps his cash, cards and IDs in a Andar Leather Slim Wallet, Minimalist Front Pocket wallet. I never understood the front pocket wallet. But then again, I’m (increasingly) an old man, trapped in my ways.
Carrying my wallet in my front pocket came about because of a back injury. Sitting on my wallet caused real pain. Since then I’m in the habit of front pocket carry. I’m retired and do a lot of road trips. Not sitting on my wallet is a better way to do long distance drives.
I was never comfortable leaving my wallet in my car or having it otherwise off body.
You are so right. Had the same experience, back pain then hip pain. I have carried my wallet in my front pocket for about 25 years now. No more pain. Actually it was the back surgery, L5 and both hip replacements. Had my ass kicking days, mine and theirs. Hahahaha!! In the front it is also safer.

What leather? The wallet hardly anyone sees and the watch nobody really cares about? No, I’m sure we’ve all thought to ourselves, “Man, I’m not going to buy a car from this guy: his watch band isn’t leather!”

See his previous sentence. He’s saying he’s taken this picture to see how things change over time as he switches over to leather holsters and stuff because he works around high-end cars. It’s a before and after comparison that he hasn’t yet completed.
No, that’s not what he’s saying. Read his following sentence:

He’s on his way out of the high-end car business, not just getting into it

The front pocket wallet explained: My sister at one time dated a retired NYC cop. On my first visit to NYC he asked to see my wallet. I pulled it from my back pocket and handed it to him. He immediately pocketed it. Then he said “Want it back? Want to keep it?” He pulled it out and stuck it in my front pocket. Explained a pickpocket couldn’t get it there. Been carrying it in my front right pocket for 40 years now and never had it taken in that time.
Would have been a more impressive trick if he had pulled it out of your pocket instead…
Marcel, thinking the same thing. Eighteen when I made my first trip to the Big Easy. My cousins told me, “Put your wallet in your front pocket when you’re on Bourbon Street.” Good advice.

I was thinkin the same. But check out the amount of foward cant on the holster; the height difference between the 2 belt clips. Assuming its at 3:00, that pistol grip wont be sticking out. Nice EDC BTW. I predict he’ll add and optic in the future.

Usually how it works. I got comfortable carrying a full size, then worked my way down. Now I carry compact (S&W m2.0 3.6″ – Double stack 13 round .40)
I see a wrist watch with each EDC. Don’t really see them worn at all anymore. Just saying…
Most people also actually put a phone in their phone cover too. No phone in the one in the pic.

so you can include your watch and phone. Maybe a disclaimer that the phone case actually holds the phone being used to take the picture next time for the simple minded that frequent this site.

Looks like an OWB turned IWB. I tried it… not near as comfortable as a rig built for IWB/AIWB. JM kydex IMHO has the best AIWB rig available. The wing claw 2.0. Mine is OTW, finally!
I find it strange that a 25 year old worked as a LEO before that age, got out, moved states and now sells cars… Talk about climate change. But, good for him. Selling cars is a better job. Less douchebaggy.

Every couple years. Met plenty of assholes trying to oversell and overprice shit. Have you? Or do you just renew your bus pass online? Since you asked, I built and priced my 2500 online then got it shipped to the local dealership. Only thing they did was hand me the keys and print the paperwork.
And what is that you do that is so admirable?
I own a Tapas Bar. Never really cared to be admired online though. Especially not when questioning someone’s credibility and integrity. Stay golden, pony boy.
