Last week, two men came to Bobby Ray Osborne’s junkyard asking about a car he had for sale. This week they came back looking to rob him.

“I was putting up a pretty good fight to be 78,” Bobby Ray Osborne said.

Kentucky State Police say the two men jumped Osborne Tuesday morning, and they ran off with some of his money. Osborne says they didn’t get away without fearing for their lives, as he was armed with a handgun.

You know, that tool that makes men — even older men who aren’t as strong as they used to be — more equal. Women, too.

One of them got a punch in and gave Mr. Osborne a pretty good knot on his cheek, but he looks to be OK. When the two thugs saw that Osborne was backed up by Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson . . .

‘[One of the robbers] said ‘Don’t shoot me,’ and I said ‘I ought to kill you.’

Osborne did fire a shot, but it did not strike either man. One of the suspects left behind his pocketbook, and investigators were able to find a driver license. Troopers are still searching for the two suspects.

The two are still on the loose, but as the police have a wallet and ID for one of them, it shouldn’t take long to track them down. As they say in small town Kentucky (and a lot of other places, too), don’t mess with an old guy.

  1. Looks like an old Mod 36 Smith, my Dad had one with a three inch barrel. Bit of rust/pitting on his, from the time they lived on the boat. It will go to my daughter in a few years. Glad the old guy looks to be okay.

    • Yup. That’s the ol’36 Chief’s Special. All steel so a tad heavy for a gun in it’s class compared to contemporary alloy revolvers – still lighter than my Ruger SP101 though… besides, that weight will help keep it under control when your lil’angel gets it. It should serve her well.
      🤠

      • I’ve got one just Like that I’ll sometimes carry as a backup, 50 years old and still going strong. I did swap out the main spring because of light primer strikes on the occasional round though.

  2. Left behind his wallet, with DL, probably a stolen wallet, now the cops are running down that guy. It’s an old trick, throw down ID’s.

  3. “…but Sam Colt made them equal.”

This is why. Yet your progressive neighbors cry in bitter resentment that that old fella didn’t just give up, or lie down and die proper-like.

I mean, them boys was just cleaning up their lives, getting money for school. Ready to turn their lives around after they performed some manual wealth redistribution.

  4. Too bad the old dude didn’t leave a got lead enema…I’m old and I wouldn’t miss.😄

  5. Lies! MSNBC AND CNN say DGUs NEVER happen. I’m off to my “crying room” until all guns are banned! Good Job, Sir!

  6. Yet another Old Person[tm], using a revolver, and apparently not even knowing how to Operate Operationally, getting the job done.

How is it that these stories keep popping up when all the Operators Operating Operationally (in Oakley shades, and surrounded by top-shelf trim) are telling us that if you’re not using a piece of Operational Combat Tupperware, you’re going to be in over your head?

  7. Hey Dan Zimmerman, I don’t think subscribers can post new topics to this site.

So, would you please re-post the DGU in Utah where the Pawn Shop owner had a gun & Dropped one of 2 assailants, with the other “on the run”?

Here’s the link (that was also posted above)

    https://www.ksl.com/?sid=46314236&nid=148&title=1-shot-at-pawn-shop-in-bountiful-police-say

I really think we need another vehicle to get these DGU’s out to the public.

I personally re-posted your article, as well as the one from Utah on my personal Facebook Page. That kind of networking can take this kind of news VIRAL in a mater of Hours.

Realize, even though most FB participants only have 200-500 “FREINDS”, those who DO see this, are more likely to be inclined to realice the “TRUE News”, as opposed to the “FAKE News”

So, with the Utah DGU, this makes 2 in one day.

  8. good one old timer! should’ve shot them though, they definitely would have shot you given the chance.
