In the wake of high-profile mass shootings, corporate America has been taking a stand against the firearms industry amid a lack of action by lawmakers on gun control. Payment processing firms are limiting transactions, Bank of America stopped providing financing to companies that make AR-style guns, and retailers like Walmart and Dick’s Sporting Goods imposed age restrictions on gun purchases.
The moves are lauded by gun-safety advocates but criticized by the gun industry that views them as a backhanded way of undermining the Second Amendment. Gun industry leaders see the backlash as a real threat to their industry and are coming to the conclusion that they need additional protections in Congress to prevent financial retaliation from banks. …
When Ramey noticed that neither Stripe nor Intuit would process payments through his site, he submitted a complaint with Georgia’s attorney general’s office, counting on help from a state law that prohibits discrimination by financial service firms against the gun industry. But the state rejected it, saying that credit card processing is not considered a financial service under state law.

When a county chairman was elected to head the republican state organization, he pulled Rachel along. Frankly, it was easier to have her inside their tent than generating activism outside. That was the thinking for a year.

Our elected officials will follow the agenda set by the citizens..at least in theory. In practice, these entrenched officials follow their self-interests. They want to promote legislation that matches their personal beliefs and the interests of their large donors.
It all comes down to money and power. These elected officials spoke and Texas state party officials listened. They wanted to keep their job after all. Rachel Malone was terminated the next day.

Yet, Stephen Gutowski of The Washington Free Beacon also touched upon the Small Arms Survey, which showed that Americans own 393 million of the one billion-plus firearms in worldwide circulation. So, while we’re not the majority owner of all guns worldwide, Gutowski broke down some interesting aspects of this report. First, that in the last two months alone, Americans have bought more guns that our entirely military has on hand, and that Americans bought more guns in 2017 than every police agency in the world did combined….

Michael Bloomberg “has approved a plan to pour at least $80 million into the 2018 election” to give Democrats control of the US House of Representatives. Note this doesn’t include money Bloomberg is putting in pushing gun control issues.

The Difference Between Guns in Movies and Guns in Real Life
PRO TIP: Don’t expect to learn anything about real life from anything produced in Hollywood . . .
I know what you’re going to say, and I get it. Guns in movies aren’t really intended to behave the way they would in the real world because if they did, every villain making their escape in a car would get away scot-free since you can’t explode a fuel take with a bullet. And that’s pretty boring. We want to perceive our action heroes as unbreakable strongmen who’ve never heard of the term “kickback” let alone had their wrists obliterated by one. We want to feel the anxiety and anticipation after a bad guy unloads a billion rounds on a good guy who has just performed a perfect swan dive into a body of water. Is he gonna resurface as a corpse full of holes or an impenetrable force that must now be reckoned with?
So, yes, Hollywood uses guns to ramp up the action and show how strong its heroes are (and how weak gas tanks are, apparently). Is this an issue? I suppose if you get all of your information about guns from what you’ve seen in movies then, yes, I guess it is.

The primary system works wonders for these types of cases. Simply light them up and find a 2A supporting pol who would be happy to take their job from them. Republicans who hate the 2A and it’s supporters can run, but they can’t hide.
If the democrats take the House and Senate next election, Australian Style Gun Control will be the law of the land and SCOTUS will go liberal permanently.
The economy will crater too, as masses of anti-business legislation, taxes and regs get passed. It will be worse than the last time the dems trashed the economy from 2007 to 2011.

Pretty much. This is one of the reasons why I felt the uproar over the pending bump stock changes didn’t make all that much sense. The refrain is “Well, a future administration could twist the law to outlaw semi-autos”. When the Dems retake the Presidency and Congress some day, they’re not going to worry about using bump stock language to outlaw guns, they are going to go the more direct route and just ban all semi-auto firearms.
Rachel threatened their deal. The one thing politicians are terrified of is getting voted out of office. They work very hard at keeping their real loyalties to the donor class/business interests as secret as they can. Texas politicians are good at Kabuki theater so they campaign as conservatives but vote to support progressive/business interests. Joe Strauss is a poster child for this kind of “conservative” politics. Rachel Malone is more dangerous to them outside the party than she was on the inside. I image they’re figure that out pretty soon.
Thee financial organizations still work with Porn Shops, sellers of cigarettes and promoters of opioids? What are the obligations to state and federal ordinances for these institutions? Somebody needs to take them to court.

Why she was fired is not in the post or in the article it references. There’s nothing in there that even suggests it was at all about her firearms activism.

Rachel Malone is lucky. She’s a Republican, so she was fired. If she was a Dimocrat, she would have been Vince Fostered, or at least Weinsteined.
Bloomy can toss his whole fortune at the DNC, and they’ll still lose big again this year. My Hillary-loving aunt was just talking to her friend about how much of a chore it is to get young people and minorities out to the polls.

Nice point. Do we need a new addition to campaign finance laws, wherein donations to candidates who *do not represent you* are limited more than for those that do represent you? Current limits are like $3000, how about $300 for candidates who are not running in your district?

Theres a payment app called Payfirma that I used from the time Square first changed their policy to not support firearm or ammo purchases and started holding peoples money hostage in late 2012 and used them until I sold my shop in 2015. The rates were very fair as I recall and I always was paid out in no more than 48 hours. Just a FYI for anyone having this problem now…may be something to look into.
I ran into another lefty ‘heads-I-win-tails-you-lose’ discussion about Bloombergs millions. When I pointed out the spending difference their response was ‘good! Maybe someone can finally break the NRA block on common sense.’

Credit cards are, just within the history of financial services in the US, relatively new. The law hasn’t kept up well.

What I really wish I could do is load my 9mm mags as easily as all those action guys can in the movies.
All guns are “high powered” when you think about it. They all generate pressures of several thousand PSI to push a projectile near or above the speed of sound.
The problem with the term is it’s entirely perspective based. Dems use it to describe the guns they don’t like and if/when those get banned, they’ll just use it to describe the next firearm. Best thing you can do, let someone shoot an AR and then let that same person shoot a .308 or 30-06 or .270. Then ask them why they hear about ARs as being high powered and not anything else.

Gun control lobby is over $250 million a year, all on potential issue advocacy. That is beyond direct contributions to political campaigns by Bloomberg. The gun control lobby groups are just using much more opaque means via c(3) charitable giving which is large anonymous and tax deductible to boot.
