“Germany says it is extending border controls along its frontiers for a further three months due to continued high numbers of refugee arrivals,” abcnews.go.com reports. “Almost 1.1 million people entered Germany last year to apply for asylum. Most came through the country’s southern border with Austria.” Causing some major problems with crime, including sexual assaults on German women. And so Germans are applying for small arms licenses in record numbers. As Breitbart reports, there’s one problem with that stat . . .

The small arms licences being issued now in such great number only cover firearms such as blank firing pistols, and deterrent self-defence pistols. Rather than firing live shells, the gas guns which are indistinguishable from from their live-firing equivalents use an explosive propellant to fire a concentrated cloud of CS gas at an attacker.

And wouldn’t you know it? Some German politicians are unhappy with even this limited nod to personal self-defense.

Once a licence has been acquired, there is no limit or checks on the acquisitions of these small guns, a “loophole” Ms. Mihalic has called to close. The Green Party MP has also called for controls on simple self-defence articles such as pepper spray, of which there is a shortage across Europe as demand continues to outstrip supply.

Some women in the United States — I’m looking at you, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America — think it’s OK, even virtuous to keep pushing for civilian disarmament. They think it’s better to [try to] disarm everyone than it is to “allow” women to defend themselves with a firearm, the only tool that can place them on a level playing field with a male attacker.

I’m glad to see Germans pushing back against civilian disarmament. (We hear reports that they’re doing so without government permission.) They’ve got a long way to go, but the longest journey starts with a single can of mace.

Meanwhile, perhaps those demanding Moms and others who keep yammering on about Europe’s “gun free” paradise will now see that gun control has failed, just as it would fail here in the States. Has failed where it’s been attempted. I doubt it. But many of us with a clear head and children to protect know the score. How do you say molon labe in German?

  1. Ah… The Green Party… It’s practically a watermelon.

Nice to see the German commies going back to their Stasi roots when their backs are to the wall. Perhaps they should remember that they are not in West Germany anymore?

        • A little history lesson if I may: The Greens party didn’t start in Eastern Germany. They started as a protest against US nuclear weapons in the late 1970s in West Germany. The former SED is now Die Linke and didn’t say anything on “der kleine Waffenschein”.

        • @Germanguy

I don’t know about the green party in Germany, but their equivalent in the USA have deep communist roots that continue to this day. CPUSA and other radical left organizations have had support from the USSR (including the KGB). My guess is that the same was true of the greenies in West Germany. So, yes, the movement started in the west, but that’s not the whole story. In fact, I don’t think such a movement could have started on the other side of the iron curtain. In general, protesters and agitators are valued BEFORE collectivist authoritarians take power, but are not tolerated after.

        • They have non here, in fact they partnered with parts of the anti communist movement prior and during the revolution in Eastern Germany. So if the Stasi was involved they did a spectacular bad job.

        • germanguy – Have the women of Germany, Cologne especially, considered doing a huge, mass protest to demand the right to protect themselves from these attacks?

At the very least, to legalize defensive pepper spray?

I would think masses of women demanding to not be raped would get popular support…

        • @Geoff: Pepper and CS Spray is legal in Germany. This stuff was sold for many years and I presume will be in the future. Also many women, especially in bigger cities carried it for years, because there where problems not only with migrants but also with German youth. You also could carry a knife, if it meats certain criteria, but I’m not sure at the top of my head what they are.

    • The engineered migrant crisis is designed to provoke a civil war and the destruction of Germany. Not sure whether this absurd development just means the migrants and their machetes will win or this is just a speed bump.

In the US, Americans and migrant malcontents will have real guns and probably play into the globalist agenda nicely.

      • The confluence of forming cataclysms is becoming a bit surreal. It is history in full circle. Can you imagine what the history books are going to say in 20 plus years about this period? It ain’t gonna be nice.

  2. The problem, my friends, is that even though some Europeans (and others) think they want/need guns for self defense, I suspect very few of them are the least willing to take full ownership of their lives and give up the stolen goods of socialist redistribution. They most likely believe that government has the “right” and authority to control their lives and steal from others, but just now are upset because those governments aren’t doing “enough” to protect them from this latest menace.

That question just may start popping up as things get worse there… or maybe not. They didn’t seem to learn anything from Stalin, et al.

      • What has that got to do with anything? 🙂 There is never going to be universal freedom, or anything else. Only individuals can think, decide, take action. There are areas of the US, and other places, where a few, or many individuals take ownership of their lives and bodies, and take responsibility for their choices and actions. Those are the requirements for liberty and justice. Those who continue to choose dependence on government and living on stolen goods are choosing slavery. And often, they are also choosing death for themselves and their loved ones. Sad, isn’t it?

        • And how is it with you’re industrial complexes? Do you like being controlled by a few multi national firms, that allow you’re public schools only to sell a special brand of coke or other things on there property? And what do the farmers think about that they have to pay Monsanto and others fees for their plants and stuff? I have rather a politician, who I know will lie to me to get voted have control than a billionaire and his agenda to make more money of me and my family.

        • I don’t “like” any of that. I don’t think government or electoral politics is the answer to those – or anything! You can obviously choose for yourself… but the bottom line for liberty is that you can’t choose for me. 🙂

      • I’d rather have corporations which I can choose to support or boycott rather than involuntary overlords of government. The real irony is the masses have dug their own grave regarding globalism & monopoly control of banks & corporations, but are now begging government to save them from themselves. It won’t end well.

  3. They need real guns, not pepper spray. Many of these rapefugees are hardened criminals that grew up in a very violent culture. Eventually they are going to learn to work around the mace and pop guns. When they attack they have to be put down like the rabid animals they are.

We can’t act as if we don’t tolerate violent invaders in the US as well. Ours just speak Spanish instead of some form of Arabic.

    • We Americans deal plenty well with our refugees and expats, even the ones whom the Europeans have trouble coping with. How? We let them be Americans and help them with it, but if they don’t uphold the responsibilities that come with those privileges, then we don’t make any bones about coming down on them with the full force of the law instead of coddling them and letting them get away with it by any bull excuse they can concoct.

  4. What kind of sick, demented politicians want to prevent people from having pepper spray for self-defense? While I don’t agree with any of the feelings or arguments for disarmament, at least they sort of make some twisted sense simply because firearms can be deadly of course. But pepper spray? I have never heard of pepper spray being deadly. What rationale could anyone possibly claim for criminalizing possession and/or use of pepper spray for self-defense?

    • Probably the same sort who feel the need to import masses of high birthrate third world foreigners who hate western culture. The same sort of people who are interested in a fundamental transformation of the pinnacle of civilization.

    • New York City has actually been *confiscating* pepper spray in the subways, even on the way *out* of the subways. Yes, actively setting up searchers at exit point funnels and requiring all bags to be handed over for searching and taking the contents out to look for pepper spray.

      • Are you serious? What is their legal authority to conduct random searches, and who is doing the searches (surprised people are submitting)? Is one allowed to legally own a baseball bat or a big stick in NYC?

      • Anyone foolish enough to try that shit on me will quickly be thrown to the bottom of the stairs on the spot and told to mind their own fucking business.

        Tom

      • Do you have a source? That story, if true, is very disturbing since Pepper spray is legal in NYC and though random bag searches can be set up at subway entrances they can only search those entering the subway, who then have the option of refusing and not entering the subway.

        • My source is my sister-in-law who lived in New York until about 10 months ago and she was personally subjected to one of these searches. I don’t know which subway or who was conducting the activity, but it was definitely mandatory and on her way out. I was shocked to learn about this myself and we are both happy that she no longer lives there.

    • I quote myself from a little below:
“Thats old news, you’re lacking behind. That was in the German News either in early January or late December. The notion from her didn’t get any traction”

  5. No wonder my ancestors ditched Germany and landed in Galveston in 1846. Found their way to, what is now, Texas Hill Country.
There is an old cemetery from that era. I occasionally go there and thank my relatives buried there for
the freedom they earned for their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

    • Mid-nineteenth century Galveston, and all of Texas, really, was harsh territory. Nothing awaited you here except heat, hurricanes, hardship, snow storms, tornados, Indians, disease, and……opportunity.

That was a time when immigrants, the ones who survived, anyway, were All Stars. Immigrants back then were people with the gumption to attempt such a thing and the fortitude to pull it off. Most of today’s immigrants, especially the illegal ones, are just here for the free ride. It’s easy living in the lap of lower middle class luxury at taxpayer expense, which is far better than most people, even upper middle class, live back in their country.

Back when your ancestors arrived here, it was a whole different ball game. Persevere or perish. You definitely should be thankful for their sacrifices and that you come from that stock. You picked your ancestors well.

    • My German Jewish ancestor bailed around the same time. I’m not as up on Prussian history of that era and it makes me wonder what made them leave for the states.?

      • If I may take an educated guess…

The stereotypical German obsession with efficiency, neatness, and order is often credited to the Nazis, but it actually started in the 1860’s. Everything, from schools and sports clubs to hospitals, was militarized, and it only got worse under Bismarck. Everyone got a uniform, everyone of worth got a dagger or sword to wear at ceremonies and social gatherings, etc. My buddy’s paternal ancestors were Quaker pacifists who fled their Germanic state of residence in the 1860’s during the earlier Wars of Unification with Denmark and Austria. They saw the writing on the wall and wouldn’t allow their sons to be conscripted into an even bloodier war against a larger European power. The Franco Prussian war kicked off within a year or two of their departure, and many of the sons’ old friends died. But your ancestors were Jewish, so they could have just as easily said “Fvck it, we’re sick of being treated like social oddities” and peaced for America.

  6. Sprays based on CN or CS gas are reportedly less effective than those based on OC (pepper spray). One can build up a tolerance for CN and CS, in fact some military personnel are specifically trained for that. OC also works faster, producing effects within several seconds, versus up to thirty for the other two.

I’d imagine concentraion plays a big role in that distinction, but we’re talking European civilian use here. Nothing is going to be military or even police grade. You might as well issue the German women t-shirts with the image of a penis inside a red circle with a diagonal line through it and call it a rape free zone. Might be about as effective.

Or…..you can quit crushing people’s God-given right to defend themselves, their families and their property, and stop blocking them from carrying self-defense side arms.

    • “One can build up a tolerance for CN and CS, in fact some military personnel are specifically trained for that.”

<—Admits to being to much of a wimp for that job. Mithridatesism for CS gas.

    • Many sprays here in the states can be had with both; OC As the main ingredient to immediately incapacitate plus some CN or CS to make sure it stays that way once they kick in.

      • I’ve heard of those combination sprays, but nothing as to their effectiveness. Sounds like it could work well.

I have a little spray vial, myself, which I’ll carry along with my knife whenever we happen to go out for drinks and I have to leave my sidearm in the car. I don’t know its chemical composition and I’ve never used it on anyone.

Well, I accidentally knocked it off my nightstand last year and one little squirt escaped when it landed. The ceiling fan circulated that one quick squirt rapidly, though, and kept us up and out of the room coughing for 10-15 minutes.

  7. I’m also sure the demand for diesel fuel, glass bottles, and iron pipe is also spiking.

The German citizenry will not be duped again by a leftist government.

    • Sigh. I wish it were so, but I would not take that bet. When push comes to shove how far will they really go? They’ve been bred for mindless support of the leftist agenda.

      • The problem is this – in a country like Germany (and many other European states) where guns are outlawed, only Muslim refugees will have gins.

        • Guns alone are meaningless. The will to use them is what matters. Germans and Europeans from every country are finding that will.

The tools of their liberation will improve as their desire to expel the invaders increases.

    • Are you really sugggesting a Timothey McVeigh like terrorist attack? Really?
I really hope that is sarcasm.
Also last month a refugee camp was attacked with a grenade.

  8. I am just about to move back to the US from Germany. I have a German hunting license which entitles me to 2 handguns and unlimited long guns. None of my friends and neighbors ever showed any interest in guns. In the last few months many have asked me to take them to the range and what is the easiest way to legally acquire a gun.

A lot of folks are realizing the “refugees” are not snugly puppies after all….

    • OT, but out of curiosity is the two handgun limit set in stone for all German gun owners? Or is there some sort of collector’s license you can obtain that allows you to buy more? I assume handguns of WWII vintage and earlier are all treated the same as a P226 manufactured yesterday.

      • No, that depends on what kind of gun license you have. As a hunter you are limited to rifles and different bore handguns. As a sporting guy it depends on how often and for what you train and as a collector you can have as many guns you like from a special period for example the WW2 weopans of the allied forces.

      • As a hunter you are limited to 2 handguns any caliber. Unlimited long guns and shotguns (as long as you meet the storage requirements) To get more than 2 handguns you need a sport shooters license which is specific to each caliber and requires minimum visits per year to the range (I think 18) and actually compete in sanctioned events.

They do have a collectors license but I don’t know much about it but I have heard it is very difficult to get.

The nice part of having a hunting license is once you get it you are good for life, just renew and pay every 3 years

        • I have heard that it is not more difficult to get then the others, but you are restricted to a really narrowed field of weapons if you get one. For example you couldn’t just collect all weapons world war 1 or any era, you have to be more specific then that.

  9. I find it rather ironic after years of Americans being labeled as cowboys and paranoids for our love of guns, which are our symbols of freedom, suddenly those who used to look down their noses at us and call us racists because of our racial problems are hysterically trying to arm themselves against the african/middle eastern invasion of their comfort zone.

  10. Poor, poor Germany. My heart bleeds for the poor, poor Germans.

Then again, as Shakespeare noted, “’tis the sport to have the engineer hoist with his own petard.”

    • What exactly is your ancestry, Ralph? Jewish? Polish? Does it in any way explain why you seem to have such a hard-on for the Germans?

    • I’m with you Ralph. Precious little sympathy(or empathy) for Deutchland. Or all of Europe(no French FB background for me). And I’m close to half french/german. Get ready for the anti-Christ to rule ya’ll…and Albert Speer huh? How did hitler tie his shoelaces? Little naziis…

  11. Thats old news, you’re lacking behind. That was in the German News either in early January or late December. The notion from her didn’t get any traction. So please report the full story and don’t just copy from a badly made ABC article.

  12. I think it’s “Kommen und sie nehmen.”

It’s easier for me to imagine this as a taunt in a German accent than in it’s original form.

    • “Komm und nimm sie,” which still sounds awkward, might work better simply because it uses the imperative form, but I’m not about to turn this into The Truth About Deutsch. My three-years as a student of the language have amounted to near-native pronunciation, but adjective endings still destroy me. Go figure.

    • Google Translate called it “Kommen Sie, nehmen Sie” or “You come, you take.” I like the challenge implied. Molon Labe is literally “Having come, take.”

Or, in modern American, “Bring it, mofo.”

    • Bows aren’t limited, as far as I know you can have as many as you like. They aren’t aloud for hunting though, because they are cruel to animals or at least the environmentalist say.

      • “I believe killing in self-defense is mostly illegal in Germany, minus maybe some very rare exceptions.”

Pretty much a true statement. At the very least a warning shot must be fired. In my firearms class in Germany we were told that 99% (if you are not connected) you will be arrested and charged even if the self defense was legit.

I think folks there are starting to not care what the consequences are. After Cologne they see the Polizei can be a few meters away and still not protect you…..

      • Thats not true. Last year we had a very prominent case involving a gun owner who shot an intruder to his home who didn’t get fined or otherwise punished. He was investigated by the DA or at least our equivalent to that, but I guess that could or maybe should also happen in the US.
If you’re defending yourself and the other guy gets injured/killed it always depends on the circumstances if you get accused of a crime.

  13. This kind of reminds me how when things were getting really antsy in Los Angeles right before the Rodney King decision (which resulted in riots) and all the anti-gun liberals were getting scared and buying guns. And OUTRAGED over the ten day waiting period!

When the riots broke out in the United Kingdom in London and Manchester, and some other cities I think, baseball bat sales shot up on Amazon UK by like 2000% I think.

  14. I seem to remember that, a long time ago, another very liberal German government also prevented its citizens from owning guns because it feared them. Funny thing was that the reactionary segment that the government feared eventually BECAME the government and suddenly they had all the guns. And we know how that worked out.

There comes a point when lecturing your citizens on how they aren’t behaving cosmopolitan enough gives diminishing returns and a backlash develops. We’re seeing that here, as well, where liberals are aghast at the idea of Trump or Cruz rising. Perhaps you should stop trying to separate Americans who are trying to ‘cling’ to their guns and religion?

    • It was the Weimar Republic that instituted gun restrictions, not the Third Reich. The Third Reich actually lessened the restrictions. Of course, by that time all the “undesirables” were in camps.

  15. Well, our biggest problem by now is neither the German green party (Still licking their wounds from praising asylum seekers as law-abiding sacred cows and Islam as a religion of peace. Did I mention that they once also promoted pedophilia?) nor the shortage of CS-gas and pepperspray. It’s the attempt of a european gun grab by the european commission to “reduce the risk of terrorism and illegal arms trafficing” (Far worse than your Federal Assault Weapons Ban ever was), promoted by such failed states like Italy (bancrupt), France (bancrupt, unable to defend their peope against terrorism, ruled by socialists) an the UK (allready disarmed their people, ruled by their banking industry and plagued with violence).

If you want to learn more about the attempt of the european gungrab:

    1. Firearms United (An paneuropean gunright association): http://www.firearms-united.com

    2. Katja Triebel (Germany’s most dedicated gunrights lobbyist). The european commission and the other european gun grabbers fear her so much that they don’t answer her questions and even threaten to accuse her of stalking: https://legalwaffenbesitzer.wordpress.com (Sorry guys, only in German).

I also would recommend to follow both of them on Facebook.

Oh, by the way the pistol you pictured above is no “gas/alarm/blank gun” it’s an old break open air pistol.

Molon labe in German means “Kommt und holt sie euch!”. Translates to “Come and get them!” in English

    • Katja Triebel’s website was linked here in TTAG about a week or so back, and she comments in here from time to time.

European readers of TTAG, please keep us filled in on how things are going over there…

  16. Pepper Spray in Germany is only legal to carry if it is marked ‘Tierabwehrspray” (animal repellent) and for sure you will get in some type of trouble if you use it, again even if legit. People don’t care as you cannot find it in Germany, sold out.

  17. I was born in the Netherlands and knew a few people who acquired a firearm illegally…
I only got a pellet rifle while I lived there…Glad I’m in the US now…I’m swimming in freedom…

  18. I suspect there are a lot more guns in private hands than we know in Europe, left over from WWI and II. Where did they all go?

    • The men and women who buried them in the yard have died off and been replaced by a generation who thinks that if the hakenkreuz and guns are banned, then the lion will lie down with the lamb and we’ll all live happily ever after. Like in the US, if we had no Confederate battle flag, we’d have no violence.

  19. Please note that in the course of the last revision of the German Weapon Law the German legislator even intended to forbid carrying blank fire guns and irritant gas guns.
The only reason why they did not adopt such regulation was that they came to the conclusion that withdrawing about 15 millions of such “guns” from circulation was too expensive!

The German Weapon Law and its corresponding regulations are extremely strict and state that self-defense is NOT (!) a legitimate reason for possessing and carrying a gun!

    Read this:

“In case that the concerned person may be threatened by surprise attacks which may impede the successful defense of said person then this does, as a general rule, not justify the need for possessing a firearm for the purpose of self-defense.
    ….”

(Section 19.2.4 of the current “Deutsche Waffenverwaltungsvorschrift”)

If it is your opinion that this is simply self-defeating THEN I HAVE TO AGREE!!!!

  20. If the German people don’t wake up soon and get rid of those politicians who seek to make their citizens as fodder for the imported animals currently invading the EU, Germany will cease to exist!

  21. I know how the EU could bring the bad apples to heel in 3 easy steps.

    1. Permit self-defense, armed and unarmed, and make it easier to do it well-armed.
    2. Require migrants to learn the language and be employed.
    3. Kick the ass of anyone who breaks the law and deport any who commit violent crimes.

There you go, all the immigrants have reasons to try to assimilate and be productive and will face punishment for failing to be responsible members of the society gracious enough to host them.
