From the AP:

Three people were injured, one of them critically, in a shooting Wednesday near a popular shopping and entertainment district west of Phoenix, police said.

The suspect was taken into custody safely, Glendale Officer Tiffany Ngalula said in a televised briefing. The most seriously injured person was taken to a hospital, and the two others were expected to survive,

The Westgate Entertainment District, part of a complex that includes arenas for Cardinals football and Coyotes hockey, was humming with activity after many of its stores and restaurants were closed for more than a month due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The shooting had stopped by the time officers arrived, Ngalula said.

“We were able to locate that suspect in the Westgate area, our officers challenged that suspect and were able to safely take that person into custody,” she said.

Police locked down the area and were methodically going through businesses to search for any additional victims or suspects, the spokeswoman said.

Gov. Doug Ducey said he’s monitoring the situation and “the state is here to continue to offer its full support to the victims and to the community.”

State Sen. Martin Quezada, a Democrat, wrote on Twitter that he saw a person “with an AR-15 shoot up Westgate.” The police spokeswoman said she was not able to confirm that the gunman used an AR-15.

“I saw 2 victims with my own eyes. Not sure how many others,” he wrote on Twitter. “I saw the shooter. Being told not to say anything else about details ’til I speak to police. I’m ok. Lots of shaken up people.”

    • Another mealy mouth democRat slips up and exposes itself as a racist who is fixated on skin color. Besides talking out your behind what proof do you have that connects the perp to the POTUS? You have zip, nada , nothing whatsoever so gfy.

      TRUMP/PENCE 2020.

      • Another moron demonstrating the broken-ness of our political system with you blindly labeling anyone not a republitard (see, I can do it too) a democRat.

This kind of attitude is why politics today are such shit compared to 30 years ago, when politicians were viewed as individuals with views that don’t always 100% line up with their party and were nuanced so you didn’t feel like you had two choices in every race. Not today…now it’s ‘if you disagree with a single bullet point on our manifesto, you’re a republitard or democRat.’

Thanks for keeping that mentality strong, tardo.

      • We know Bernie supporters like the SKS for their shooting sprees. Since supporters of the outspoken USSR sympathizer like Soviet rifles, and supporters of the most pro-America president in a long time like America’s rifle, Biden supporters would probably want to use a Chinese Type 56. But to be true to Biden’s form, they’d get to the target location, and forget where they are and what they’re doing.

        • Someone with an AR-15 manages to WOUND 3 people IN FRONT OF a democratic senator AND he is taken into custody?!?! This doesn’t sound fishy at all….

    • In another episode of real life Chicago PD it’s Obama’s Sons 27 – Fine People 3. Looks like the slaughter rule is in effect.

    • You might want to take notice that most of the spree killers out there are drugged out Lefty’s. Not one has been a member of the NRA or the Trump campaign. They are all angry Democrats.

      • Bullshit, Most of these killers are found to be non-political so far as political orientation is concerned. That’s a fabrication of party politics, has zero to do with reality.

        • “party affiliation” and ideological inclination are different things. Every single mass shooter has been some brand of lefty.

        • Yet again more delusional nonsense. The US Secret Service has been studying mass shooters ever since Columnbine. Political orientation or leanings is the least significant factor and frequently a completely nonexistant factor. The rabid need to assign all these incidents to left wing politics is a behavioral malfunction of a small but vocal element of the political far right.

          Also known as delusional idiots.

        • Enuf, there was a study that clearly demonstrated not only on average were more than 2 in 3 spree killers on the left end of the political spectrum, it also showed at least 2 in 3 spree killers were registered Democrats.

        • “not a significant factor”… and yet every single one of these mass shooters has been some form of un-American socialist. Sounds like more Obama math.

    • ^^^___ MORON ALERT ___^^^

Yes, Orange Man Bad, that is true. But also off-topic. Has nothing to do with Trump.

    • In this case the man is an illegal alien and a DACA recipient Dreamer. This will disappear from the news pretty quickly because of that.

      • And he posted a video both before and during the shooting. He showed his rifle, and yes it appeared to be an AR style rifle. He was saying some things about our corrupt government. One of his victims, a woman shot in the leg, talked to him, and told him not to shoot her any more. It was on LiveLeak last night, no idea if it is still there.

  1. I thought AR-15s were guaranteed death machines? I’ve seen more carnage with a handgun. So let’s be sure and ban AR-15s.

“The shooting had stopped by the time officers arrived” What? Why did they wait so long to call in the protectors?

    • Just looked at Arizona laws. Couldn’t find anything that would specifically keep a ccw holder away. I know that some places may have local restrictions and I’m from Michigan, where carrying in arenas and bars is banned.

      • AZ is pretty liberal in regards to gun laws. You can concealed carry most places w/o a permit, though you can get a permit for use in other states. Indeed, I used my AZ permit to get my MT permit – which I got based on a permit from a third state. Pretty much the only things I needed besides that was a fingerprint card (coincidentally by the Glendale PD) and a check.

I have seen open carry, and I have concealed carry at that shopping center. Nothing different than the rest of AZ.

      • Arizona is the freest of States on gun laws.
        Constitutional Carry, concealed or openly.
Concealed Weapon Permits are Shall Issue and you’d have to be comatose to fail a class.
State Pre-emption Law bans cities or counties making their own gun laws.
Employers are prohibited from banning guns stored in employee vehicles.
It is unlawful for police agencies to destroy firearms.
State law specifically allows residents to manufacture their own guns for use within the state.

        • It’s illegal to carry on a college campus. Or at least it was when I lived there and was taking grad classes at ASU.
But other than that and the federal laws we’re all stuck with, it’s pretty awesome.

        • JasonM – Agreed. There have been efforts to fix state law on campus carry but so far that one remains broken. In all other regards, Arizona gun law is excellent from out point of view.

        • “Employers are prohibited from banning guns stored in employee vehicles.”

Probably a couple decades ago, as the only atty in AZ for my employer for a French company with its US HQ in MA, I was forced by management to put up no gun signs. Management wanted me to ban guns in the parking lot too. Nope. Not going to happen. Everyone understood the rules – I didn’t care if they concealed carry, just don’t let me or the plant GM see the gun inside the building. Neither he nor I could honestly carry, but I knew that there were enough guns in responsible hands in the plant, and ever more in their cars, that I didn’t worry.

  2. Not near enough info to commit unless you are a knee jerk Gun Control Zealot that trips over themselves to use a tragedy to advance their demented agenda. Those with common sense who witness criminal violence see it as a damned good reason to arm up…and to tell ambulance chasing Gun Control Zealots to stfu.

  3. So, I checked out Sen. Martin Quezada’s Web Site. I doubt this guy could distinguish between an AR15 and Ruger Mini.

His site is mostly just bumper sticker phrases like “Fully fund education” and “I will protect everyone’s civil rights”. Doubting he will protect 2A rights.

    • “Fully fund education” because throwing money at it has made our K-12 public schools the envy of the world, right? So we better keep doing it. Or maybe, just maybe, the people receiving those funds tend to vote for the person that made that happen.

    • “between an AR15 and Ruger Mini” please tell me what the what the MAJOR EFFECTIVE difference between them is? I don’t know who is worse, people who know nothing about firearms or those who “claim” to be experts.

      • As a democrat politician explained to us, if they shoot the AR-15 from the hip, that means it’s a dangerous assault weapon. If you shoulder the Ruger Mini, especially if it has a wood stock, then it’s just a hunting rifle. Pretty simple really.

      • Binder,

It is not about that which you call ‘effective difference’. It is about demonizing a type of weapon. My conjecture was that this state Representative probably does not know the difference between the variety of long guns and may have jumped to the conclusion that it was an AR15 because that is what he perceives as scary and would like to ban.

Again, just conjecture on my part.

        • Which is semi-ironic as the Mini-14 was the spree killer’s favorite until the early 1990s. ARs must have been too expensive in comparison.

  4. I hate to say this but, I was wondering when we would get one of these. It is unfortunate “Hard Labor” is not a thing with penal incarceration any longer, 30 years to life would be just perfect for this idiot.

  5. This one could fall under “social distancing saves lives.”. People aren’t congregating in large groups and that sort of takes the mass out of mass shooting.

    (Not being flip)

  6. Hopefully they sentence the shooter with the maximum time they can and make all of them run consecutively along with no possibility of parole. So, if he assaults 3 people with a deadly weapon and each carries a 20 year sentence, then make him serve them consecutively so he’ll be in prison for 60 years. This is on top of all of the other charges too. We don’t need any additonal laws and just need to enforce the ones that have been on the books for years.

  7. We need a federal law that requires operators of “Gun Free Zones” to pay Conceal Carry Citizens $100,000 following any violent incident where they were disarmed by the “policies”. Following the incident the citizen (does not have to be a victim, just present) identifies themselves and the liability carrier cuts a check, which will not be connected to any future payouts.

Quick and easy, You can have a gun free zone. But you will also have to ensure armed protection is available to protect the people you disarm.

  8. “(CNN)A shooter at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi in Texas has been “neutralized,” the US Navy said in a statement Thursday morning.

One member of the Naval Security Forces has been injured, the statement said.
“All gates on the installation remain closed while first responders process the scene,” the Navy said. “NCIS is en route, and state and local law enforcement are on scene.”

    • Bloombug aside, there’s a lot of chatter in news about Arizona going blue or somewhat purple this upcoming election. Senator Martha McSally (R) is way behind Mark Kelly (not R) in her US Senate Race. And Trump has currently lost a lot of ground in the polling.

Months to go yet, ain’t nuth’n over till the fat lady sings.

  9. At least it wasn’t a school shooting…oh wait. As mentioned the natives are restless in Chiraq. And it’s a perfect storm of warm weather and pent up resentment this Memorial Day weekend. Draconian shelter order’s and novice dim’s at the helm ain’t helping. I’m keeping my AR.

    • As an update on Chiraq they fined the Philidelphia Romanian church on Sunnyside for daring to be open on Sunday. Ironic as these folks fled communist Romania for “freedom” in America…I wonder if they you can SHOOT BACK in Chicago?!?

  10. Westgate Entertainment District. Where Fun Happens.
    Code of Conduct:
    https://westgateaz.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Westgate_Code_Of_Conduct_v2.pdf

Policy is no guns or knives or violence or spitting on the sidewalk or wearing of gang colors or farting in the elevators or groups of more than five people or anything with wheels under your feet or public sex or video or still photography of employees or officers or scalping or drunken foolishness or loitering or being idle or being disrespectful of authority figures ….

Kinda’ just goes on and on like that.

But people carry concealed weapons anyway. Because it’s Arizona, the very definition of a FREE STATE for the Second Amendment.

    Oh, and no smoking!!!

  11. A democrat senator witnesses a crime committed with an AR. The subsequent press conference will be in the parking lot of Cabela’s.

    How convenient.

  12. If this is right?

the shooter is a ASU student major in biz and studying Chinese lang/clutr and he founded his HS’s first LGBQTB$@#%&??? club and as been “out” since age 13.

Unconfirmed..he ‘felt’ bullied all his life…ohh ya in a latino fam and culture! you bet bully by own fam and everyone in the hood!

Woof this will not be page one news by next week!

    this kid was TOO left!

  13. Well, you know it wasn’t a white guy because they didn’t immediately post it and wanted witnesses to wait before releasing too many details.

    • CNN has a story on it, but you have to search for it. It doesn’t show up on their front page. I guess they didn’t have room for it with the other important stories like “Chris Cuomo teases brother Andrew with giant test swab” Yes, that’s real. Priorities.
