Liberty Suppressors has announced their new Zulu integrally suppressed complete upper for AR-15 rifles. It combines Liberty’s suppressor system with an Aero Precision upper, Odin Works barrel and a St. Croix bolt group into one extremely attractive package.

Here’s their press release . . .

Liberty Suppressors is proud to announce the release of our latest silencer design, the Zulu, a centerfire suppressed rifle system for the AR15.

The Zulu is designed specifically for the AR15 rifle system and has been optimized for performance with off the shelf parts where applicable. We have wanted to build the ultimate integral AR15 upper in 556 for years and finally did it! Using an Aero Precision upper receiver and rail, St Croix bolt carrier group and an Odin Works custom profile barrel and this gun shoots as good as it looks. Couple all these amazing rifle parts with our suppressor system and you have a system that is light, quiet and durable! We have worked on several criteria with this project that include things like controlling bolt velocity, back pressure, baffle erosion and optimizing sound performance just to name a few. After several thousand rounds of ammo and many months of work we have a system that exceeds all our expectations and brings all this to you in a lightweight package. Get yours today from a class 3 dealer near you! Immediately available for transfer, all NFA rules apply.

Is it still hearing-safe when using supersonic ammo?

    1. I’m going to say NO! The Liberty “Mystic” using a Fiocchi 158-gr. 9x19Para is rated at ~162dB’s w/o Suppressor and ~125.5dB’s w/Suppressor or ~35.5dB’s higher than that of a Standard Lawn Mower. I’d go with a Nahpatrone (Near Cartridge), which is Sub-Sonic ammunition…

      1. avatar Geoff "Bring the EDIT button back, will ya, TTAG?" PR says:

…and using sub-sonic .223 is pretty much good for target practice, plinking, and pest control…

        1. Then what’s the point of Suppressing then…

      2. avatar Geoff "Bring the EDIT button back, will ya, TTAG?" PR says:

Oh, and is gas system ‘tweakable’ when going from sub to super-sonic ammo?

        1. Depends on you’re firing platform used! I use a Franken-98k Mauser w/197.5-gr. Nahpatrone Cartridge (0.55-gr.) and still have a respectable range of ~320-meters, while producing less than 80dB’s…

Is it stupid of me to wonder why they built a 5.56 version before the blackout while we still have suppressors on the NFA and limiting factors hit harder for their choice of chambering? That said looks neat and I would like to know more.

    1. avatar John says:

They already make a 300 Blackout option. They call it the Leonidas. Its been on my list of “things I want but my wife says I can’t afford it” for a while. I think this year it will get moved to the “things I bought that my wife doesn’t know about” list.

      1. avatar Roger Lawrence says:

I have a Leonidas. It was worth the wait and the price.

      2. avatar SAFEupstateFML says:

Ah that does make more sense thanks John. Oddly my wife would be the more likely one to want either version but NY has no NFA even if it dodges the rest of our state’s laws.

  3. avatar MyName says:

Every time I see something integrally suppressed it renews my annoyance at the fact that suppressors are still NFA items. Imagine how much more market interest there would be in suppressors, and R&D for things like this if the stupid regulatory burden was lifted.

    1. avatar SAFEupstateFML says:

Would love to see an integrally suppressed 45-70 lever rifle with some obnoxiously heavy bullets.

      1. How about an SSK Industries .45-70 Whisper Suppressor…

        1. avatar SAFEupstateFML says:

Damnit Percy why do you tempt me with stuff I can’t buy. Thanks that is interesting and on the list for moved out/court decision purchases.

        2. Of what I’ve seen and read about the “Whisper”, it’s a nice lookin’ suppressor. Just sayin’ Ma…

  4. avatar Guywithagun says:

Sorry, I know this doesn’t belong here but…

What happened to the TTAG search??? I can’t search for articles that I need to refer back to. Can you guys fix that (and please don’t tell me to google it, Thanks)?

    1. Considering it’s a Generic Inquiry and not a Specific Inquiry to a “Person”…
