SHOT Show: The New Taurus TX22 Rimfire Pistol [VIDEO]

Taurus TX22 22LR pistol

Luis Valdes for TTAG

Taurus is releasing a new striker-fired, polymer framed .22LR pistol, the TX22. Maybe the most interesting thing about the full-size gun is that it has a 16-round polymer magazine. Yup, you read that right, 16 rounds.

That’s noteworthy, especially for a gun that’s suppressor-ready, has an adjustable rear sight and is the size of a GLOCK 19. MSRP is $349. Check it out.

With the mag limits in effect all over the country it takes guts to make a gun that by design will not be sold in many states or cities.

    1. avatar TexTed says:

… at least until the SCOTUS rules on NYSRPA…

      1. avatar Mark N. says:

That case will explore the boundaries of “bear,” and has nothing directly to do with what firearms may be banned, mag limits, or the like.

        1. avatar orange pear says:

If strict scrutiny comes out of it, could be a whole lot more than that.

        2. avatar TexTed says:

Exactly. Strict Scrutiny is the hope, which will send all manner of these restrictions tumbling down.

    2. avatar Gman says:

I’m a bit confused. What does the gun have to do with mag size or limits?

      1. avatar Jeremy D. says:

Some states have limits on how many rounds a magazine can hold. Usual limit is 10 i think

        1. avatar Lost Down South says:

Also COULD POSSIBLY HOLD. If you have only “legal” magazines, but an N+1 mag is AVAILABLE even though you don;t have one, then the gun is illegal.

Sucks serious rocks. Death of 1000 cuts.

        2. avatar GS650G says:

And of course they will revise capacity downwards in the future. The goal is welded mags that hold one round max.

    3. avatar GunnyGene says:

No mag limits here (MS). No permits required either, among other things.

    4. avatar TheTruthBurns says:

I refuse to get a carry permit & refuse to “Obey” like a slave any law that restricts the size magazine I need for self protection. I Carry Whenever, Wherever & However I want. Remember Most LEO’s are Ignorant of the very “Laws” they ENFORCE. Just keep a Low profile & AVOID ALL LEO’s unless you can’t.

    5. avatar Muchas Mujeres says:

Why not provide 10rd mags for Commie states ?

  2. avatar Andrew Lias says:

Am I the only one that thinks he looks like Boyd Coddington?

A Taurus with a year warranty? PASS.

  3. avatar Mister Furious says:

I like this; especially the capacity

  4. avatar Slingblade says:

If it breaks, just throw it away. Taurus customer service isn’t going to help you. F Taurus.

    1. avatar ColoradoKid says:

I stopped selling and servicing tauruses some time ago, for that reason. Still have one (24/7) at their repair facility, been there for a year. Took then 10 months to admit that there will be no more parts for that model. Offered another model to replace it…oops, out of stock for the last 2 months on that one. Not surprised to see that model in stock at the distros. Taurus SUCKS!!

    2. avatar little horn says:

let me guess, you called them one time and they didn’t give a you hand job so you are saying they are crap.
ive dealt with them a few times, nothing but excellence.

      1. avatar ColoradoKid says:

Good for you, I guess the hand job helped.

      2. avatar Slingblade says:

        No. I’m not just a Taurus hater…
Had a PT92 that was a great gun. Never had to send it back. Good thing. The Taurus 66 I had was another matter. It would lock up after 2 cylinders of 357. No worries, right? Lifetime Warranty. I got the gun back with a barrel that was indexed to about 1 o’clock. Their solution to a tight cylinder gap was to back the barrel out of the frame, I guess. Rather than pay shipping…again, I had a local gunsmith fix it. Should have done that initially. It costed the same as shipping to Taurus.
A faulty gun off the line…excusable. A messed up gun from the “Warranty Repair” people? No more. I have an FFL friend who stopped selling taurus. Said Taurus had more returns than all others combined. F Taurus!

  5. avatar Binder says:

Double stack rimmed magazine. Must be easy to do because we see them all the time. Not like the PMR-30 has any issues with magazines and loading.

The magazines are going to make or brake this, and not for the capacity.

  6. avatar Kman says:

I really like it and really wish someone else made it.

  7. avatar TheUnspoken says:

It will have to go up against the kel-tec CP 33!

I like the capacity, and supressor ready. They say striker fired, that is interesting as most .22lr pistols are hammer fired, typically an internal hammer so you can’t tell that is what it is.

The 22 market is tricky for buyers, because, outside of the Ruger Mark, 22/45, and buckmark, the majority of the big name guns are actually umarex or gsg replicas of varying quality, where they stick a 22 action into a shell that looks like your favorite pistol.

I am looking for a gun like this, currently thinking Walther PPQ 22 threaded or Grand Power k22s, or maybe s&w m&p compact 22 threaded but I liked the idea of a full-size. Otherwise might look at getting a conversion for a Beretta 92 or Sig 226, but some of those seem tricky to end up with a threaded barrel. Not sure the Taurus will be first on my list, but I will await some reviews.

    1. avatar GS650G says:

S&W SW22 is a great gun, check it out

      1. avatar Just Sayin says:

The M&P 22lr pistol was my gateway into two M&P 9’s (Pro9 & std. in FDE) and my wife’s 380EZ. APEX triggers in the 9’s.
S&W nailed it with this series.
To me looks like the TX22 cloned the ergo of the M&P line.

  8. avatar Terry says:

Browning 1911 22…… one of the sweetest shooting pistols ever and you an get it with a threaded barrel……

  9. avatar Dallas512 says:

    1 Year warranty???
F u Buddy. Need to do better than that if you are going to compete in this market…

    1. avatar Swarf says:

      Especially if you’re named Taurus.

  10. avatar elsullo says:

SINGLE ACTION ONLY, with no decocker. Fully cocked when racked. Take note!

  11. avatar possum says:

If they could have squeezed in another 4 rounds it would have beeen neater. Remember them Calico’s, they were fun.

  12. avatar Jon in CO says:

The fact that the TTAG guy could say Taurus has good stuff with a straight face, you gotta give that guy a raise! There’s no way I could do that.

Then again, I would’ve skipped that booth completely. Them and Kel-Tec both. If I want a cheap toss away gun, I’ll buy a Hi-Point…

    …wait, Hi-Point doesn’t suck completely.

    1. avatar Marc says:

Also, I think he was standing in a hole.

      1. avatar luigi says:

i was wondering throughout the video whether luis is short or if jason is really tall (or both?)

  13. avatar daveinwyo says:

I want a double stack .22 mag, w/threaded barrel. 15 rounds seems right.

  14. avatar DCJ says:

Really? You can’t show us a couple of photos of the gun? We have to try and study it through a two minute video? That’s bad reporting on so many levels.
