Why Do Red State Democrats Have to Lie About Their Support for Gun Rights?

Neve mind, you don’t have to answer that. We know why. It’s because if red state Dems — people like Joe Manchin, Phil Bredesen and Claire McCaskill — actually told voters in their states what they really think about the right to keep and bear arms — not to mention a host of other issues — they couldn’t get themselves elected dog catcher, let alone to a US Senate seat.

Shall we recap for our newer readers? OK then.

First there was West Virginia’s Joe Manchin, he of the famous NRA A rating. Joe just loved to tout that rating for the home folks the first time he ran for a Senate seat back in 2010. He even filmed a commercial in which he used a rifle to blow a hole in a proposed cap and trade bill that would have devastated his state’s coal economy.

What did Ol’ Joe do when he got to D.C.? He teamed up with Pennsylvania’s Pat Toomey to push a universal background check bill following Sandy Hook, a measure that would have done exactly nothing to prevent that tragedy if it had been in place before the shooting. Because do something.

Joe thinks the voters back home are a bunch of toothless, brain-addled rubes who won’t remember his gun rights about face. That’s why he’s back again this election season shooting yet another bill, this time with shotgun.

So far the polls show he’s right. But the latest Real Clear Politics poll average that shows him 9+ points up was compiled pre-Kavanaugh. We’ll see if that circus (Joe really hopes his vote to confirm Kavanaugh is enough to save his duplicitous backside) has the same effect in West Virginia that it has on similarly endangered Dems in other red states.

Then there’s Tennessee’s Phil Bredesen. The former governor couldn’t vote to confirm Kavanaugh, but he let it be know he definitely would if he had a chance. That may have helped a little…until one of his campaign staffers was caught on video admitting that it was all a load of boob bait for the bubbas back home.

Similarly, Bredesen also wants Volunteer Staters to know their gun rights would still be safe with him in DC.

But that appears to be more Kavanaugh-esque shucking and jiving. Surprising virtually no one, it turns out that if Bredesen beats Masha Blackburn in November (he’s currently trailing by almost six points), Bredesen will probably be only too happy to line up with Chuckles Schumer to provide another reliable anti-gun vote for the Democrat caucus.

From freebeacon.com:

A top spokesman for the Tennessee Democratic Party’s effort to get Phil Bredesen elected senator has said he views “white male” gun owners as “the biggest terrorist organization on the planet.”

Mark Brown is communications director for Tennessee Victory 2018, a project of the state Democratic party that’s been working exclusively on electing Bredesen. The group is hosting Bredesen for a Johnson City meet-and-greet on Thursday afternoon. …

Bredesen has attempted to present himself to voters as a moderate who could work across the aisle with Republicans.

Bredesen has also presented himself as a pro-gun candidate, bragging in an ad of high ratings from the National Rifle Association. (The NRA called on Bredesen to take down the ad because the rating was outdated and it now opposes him due to his changed views.)

Which brings us to Missouri’s Claire McCaskill, another victim of Project Veritas’s hidden cameras…and her own big mouth when she thinks she’s among friends.

Unlike Manchin, Claire voted against Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation. And from the video above, it turns out that despite being from one of the most gun-friendly states in the union, Claire wouldn’t think twice about sticking a shiv in the voters back home if Dems manage flip enough Senate seats in November.

MCCASKILL: “Well if we elect enough Democrats we’ll get some gun safety stuff done. They won’t let us vote on it, we’ve got 60 votes for a number of measures that would help with gun safety, but McConnell won’t let ’em come to the floor.”

JOURNALIST: “Like bump stocks, ARs and high capacity mags…?”

MCCASKILL: “Universal background checks, all of that… But if we have the kind of year I think we might have I think we could actually be in a position to get votes on this stuff on the floor and we’d get 60 [votes]…”

JOURNALIST: “So you would be on board with the bump stocks and… high capacity mags.”

MCCASKILL: “Of course! Of course!”

The race is still close, but her opponent, Josh Hawley, appears to have gotten a post-Kavanaugh bounce.

So there you have it. Three red state Dems who paint themselves as being reasonable, independent and pro-gun enough not to spook the horses in their respective electorates. But all three have let the mask slip enough to show that none of them can be counted on to buck their party’s leaders if and when the question of more restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms comes up for a vote.

Is this a trick question or something?

As I said in a post on another article, if you don’t vote don’t complain about the result.

If enough live people vote, you may topple the incumbent Democrats, or at least produce enough of a swing to worry them.

The Democrats are already openly disdainful of their voters. You should hear the comments they make when they think the microphones are off. A Confederate Slave Overseer would blush at the comments.

Buddy you are not kidding. I have seen more of that up here in the capital region than I ever did when I lived closer to Dixie

Historically the Democrat party has never supported civil rights. And they still largely don’t. Colorado is a great example. The three Democrats who were recalled were replaced with pro gun people. I believe those three were voted out and replaced with anti civil rights winners.
    Am I wrong?

    BTW
the pro guns ads are every where on TV and radio in Tennessee. They are pounding the former Democrat gov.

Lying is just something the left does. Even when they don’t have to. It’s what they are trained to do.

They do it for the thrill of bamboozling the stooges.
It’s addicting. The bigger the whopper, the bigger the thrill.
They reach a state where they would rather lie than be paid a lot of money to tell the truth.

Off topic, but, I hope I never come close-up face to face with that uglyass McCaskill, I would probably drop dead from shock.

You forgot Montana’s very own Jon Tester…he of the famous utterances…”I support the Second Amendment…BUT…” His cheesy commercials show him in someone’s old truck with a rifle on the back window rack…then there are the ones with Testicle holding a shotgun and visiting with (alleged) hunters. The ditsy Democrat lady we have running for the House stretches the truth even farther…”I grew up shooting and hunting…BUT, commonsense yada yada”.

Bastards are trying to split the Conservative vote with their blatant pandering. The other 5 years and three months of Tester’s Senate election cycle he is a rabid Progressive Democrat who does what his lord and masters (Schumer and Pelosi, aka. the DNC) tells him to do.

Jon is the Number 1 Prostitute in Congress having taken more lobbyist money in the 2012 and 2018 elections than any of the other 534 members of Congress (source, AP News, September 10, 2018, Matthew Brown).

    1. avatar ORCON says:

That’s awfully odd. My local anti-Tester ads are saying JT is “number one in Lobbyist cash.

Are there any politicians that demonstrated their stance on gun rights by mag dumping an AR at steel targets? I would love to see that and the general public reaction to it… Left and Right 😉

    1. avatar PistoleroJesse says:

Not mag dumping, but there is a bonus for shooting at the tax code and doing the vid with a solid 2A community member.

They walk a fine line between pandering to their dependent base and assuaging the people who play by the rules. The former have a adversarial relationship at best with guns and the later are a guns as either defensive tools or recreational.

Toughplace to be. I wouldn’t want to try and please them both. But this is why the rabid anti gunners in blue states don’t bother holding back.

Because not one of them is worth a tinkers damn and not worthy of any office too include dog catcher, because of their lies.

  13. avatar Jonathan-Houston says:

For that strategy to work, it depends on gullible pro-gun voters in those states to believe their lies. So the real question is why are those voters so stupid?

After all, you can bet that the liberal voters in those states see these candidates’ “pro-gun” stance for the charade it is and vote for these Dems knowing full well what they’ll actually do in D.C.

  14. avatar Jacob says:

If they would shoot something in their ads other than a fixed-magazine bolt-action rifle or an over-under shotgun, we might be fooled. Pick up an AR or AK if you’re really pro-gun.

  18. avatar sound awake says:

why do democrats lie about anything

because they are lying liars that lie

if they told the truth few would vote for them

    and they cant have that

  19. avatar Darkman says:

Democrats have been lying about who they are and what they believe for decades. The problem for them began with the 24 hour news cycle. They had to much time to talk. Which makes it hard to keep the lies straight. With all this time to talk they started to believe their own press. With egos fully inflated they started to tell people who they really are. All the while patting each other on the back and getting that Obama quiver up their legs. With the introduction of conservative media and their ability to not only point out the hypocrisy of the lies but to also show the single minded talking points used to spread the lies. The American people are beginning to see the Dark Side of the democratic mantra. The next nail in the democrats coffin is the socialism movement along with the fascist tactics their antifa storm troopers use to intimidate everyone who doesn’t drink their koolade. Slowly the democratic Reich is dying. Hopefully before the need for blood to be spilled. Although the “Tree of Liberty” could use some fertilizer…Keep Your Powder Dry.

  21. avatar dragos111 says:

Probably a more important question than why do they have to lie is, why does anyone believe them? The Democrats always run as Centerists or Moderates. Then they band together and push ahead the entire Democrat agenda.

Folks, don’t buy into it. Don’t believe the lies. Fool you once, fine. Fool you again and again and again, and you are simply a fool.
