Fake Gun News Is Still Fake News Four Years Later

Donald Trump has made the expression “fake news” a household term. Of course, the mainstream media helps him at every turn, providing endless examples for the American people to see, ridicule and share on social media. Much fake news these days has to do with things like the Russia investigation and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. At the same time, gun owners find themselves on the receiving end of plenty of it as well.

We’ve all seen stories about the incredibly lethal .9mm pistol and spent rubber bullets. However, CBS News found something even more worrisome for those concerned about “gun violence.” Check out this story from four years ago.

Suspect killed, officer injured in Calif. shootout

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — A police officer is in critical condition and a suspect is dead following an early morning shooting Friday near a Southern California nightclub, CBS Los Angeles reports.

A 31-year-old veteran officer and a new officer trainee were in an area known for criminal activity at around 2 a.m., to “check on some individuals,” said Lt. Rich Lawhead of the San Bernardino Police Department.

The officers confronted a group of five people, who had just left a nightclub, in front of a home on a dead-end street and “almost immediately shots were fired,” Chief Jarrod Burguan said.

A male suspect’s gunfire wounded the senior officer, a 6-year veteran of the San Bernardino Police Department, twice in the upper body.

…The training officer was able to return fire and wounded the suspect, who was a man in his 30s. He was also transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Seems like just another run-of-the-mill story, right? And with a happy ending, at that. If you keep reading, the fake news gem lies in the final paragraph.

An assault revolver with high-capacity magazines and a revolver were recovered at the scene.

Really. An assault revolver with high-capacity magazines. Scary stuff right there. What’s more, this utterly fake news report remains uncorrected after nearly four years.

Real news reporting requires at least a modicum of work and only a little bit of intelligence. If you didn’t know any better, you might think the whole world revolves around Putin and the 2016 elections. Democrats, CNN and the other legacy media outlets certainly think so as, rather than reporting actual news, they push their own particular agenda.

Which probably explains why CBS News has been too busy to correct this laughable report even now. Is it any wonder the American mainstream media struggles to retain their dwindling audience?

All he needs is a shoulder thing that goes up and he has got himself a machine revolver.

He’s putting that clipazine into that j frame backwards. I’ll bet he’s never attended a weekend operator’s course with an x seal.

    2. avatar P-Dog says:

To be fair, it might be an HK magazine that requires backwards ammo.

      1. avatar jwm says:

I had forgot about that. Point to you.

  3. avatar J.D. Fowlerton says:

It would have been crazy if it was talking about a Dardick, it basically had a revolver action with a magazine.

    1. avatar Mustrum says:

Have you priced the cost of Trounds for a Dardick these days?

and what ever happened to the caseless cartridge revolution we were promised 40 odd years ago? it was right up there with a bunch of stuff we were to get in the next 20-30 years…. well we did get flat screen TV to hang on the wall and electric cars are showing up but other than the European experimental one that flopped back then caseless ammo is a no show

      1. avatar Other Tom in Oregon says:

I just gun brokered this. A tround box is going for $50. That’s the box they came in, nothing else.

  5. avatar surlycmd says:

Both the picture and the news story are worthy of a Bull Shannon facepalm.

  6. avatar rob says:

Wonder if I could get that in 6.5 creedmore?

    1. avatar TheUnspoken says:

Once they hear socom is using it, 6.5 creedmoor will get the fear/respect due it as a high powered, armor piercing, sniper machine gun AR47 bullet. Nevermind it originated on the commercial side, it someone will tell you they are ex military and no one needs a powerful bullet like .65 creedmore.

    2. avatar California Richard says:

6.5 CM has such a good BC and is so close to .308 in overal cartridge length that it would take that clipozine fed .38 Dardick and b1tc# slap that kid.

    All “news” is fake news.

    1. avatar Southern Cross says:

Especially since news providers have completely abandoned the fairness doctrine. Now the news is used to push social(ist) and political agendas.

Control what people see and hear and you control how they think and act.

“An assault revolver with high-capacity magazines and a revolver were recovered at the scene.”

The civilan disarmament propaganda wing, aka MSM doesn’t know which end their muzzle is located, upper panel or lower panel and they know about as much when it involves firearms.

    1. avatar DesertDave says:

… and it has a pistol grip! It would be much safer without one.

  9. avatar HP says:

A while back CBS was on the tv in the breakroom at work, and there was a commercial in which CBS proudly proclaimed themselves “REAL NEWS”. If you’re a news organization and you have to specifically inform people that you’re real news, then you are in fact, fake news.

    1. avatar LarryinTX says:

      Absolutely!

  10. avatar Ralph says:

    Dear CBS Noose:

I’ve been trying to push a .9mm magazine through the handle of my 357mm assault revolver and it doesn’t work. What am I doing wrong?

    Signed,

    Clueless in Black Rock

    1. avatar LarryinTX says:

I’m gonna die. Isn’t 357mm about 16 inches? So a 16″ assault revolver? I WANT one! Hell, I just wanna see a picture of one!

      1. avatar jwm says:

14 inches. Still impressive in a handgun.

        1. avatar Big Bill says:

          Still impressive on a battleship.

  11. avatar GunnyGene says:

Everyone knows (or should know by now) that the media, including social media, couldn’t care less about accuracy or correcting errors in what is reported. What’s important to them is getting the story out before anyone else, because that generates eyeballs for fame and fortune. So why is TTAG running this non-story today? Out of boredom? Maybe looking for fame and fortune?

  12. avatar FedUp says:

Assault revolver with hi cap magazine?

Must be a M134 with a high capacity belt. It’s amazing he held it level long enough to hit one of the cops.

  13. avatar Cooter E Lee says:

    Probably just a typo.

Does that mean we shouldn’t ridicule CBS?

I didn’t go to college 4 years to learn to write, I decided to learn chocolate milk comes from brown cows.

We done larnt dat rittin shit in Kentucky in elementary skool. Ain’t y’all at that CBS ashamed of yoursells?

  14. avatar former water walker says:

    Muh ASSault re-volver needs a clipazine😄😎😋😏

  15. avatar Ark says:

This is not a mistake. This is agenda. This is an editor saying “put something in there about assault weapons and high-capacity clips”. This is intentional propaganda. They know EXACTLY what they published.

  16. avatar Steve says:

Look carefully. I think that revolver has a bump stock! They need to be banned!!

  17. avatar 11c20 says:

    357 mm = 14.065 in

  18. avatar Gralnok says:

You know, it’s probably supposed to say rifle. However, what passes spell check, passes the editor these days. No proof reading at all. But TTAG would never do anything like that. 😉

  19. avatar Joe Ballengee says:

The Russian Investigation is not fake news. The FBI is conducting a criminal investigation that has ALREADY lead to arrests and indictments with many more to come. The noose tightens on the TRAITORS that are in office.

    1. avatar jwm says:

The fbi is compromised. They and the looney left are attempting a coup to remove a serving president from office.

It will not end well for them or their supporters.
