Libyan "rebels"

Mark Zuckerberg’s brainchild took a beating for enabling online firearms sales between consenting adults. Under pressure from Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and like-minded civilian disarmers, Facebook banned all posts and pages promoting private gun sales. news.sky.com reports that the social media colossus is having similar problems on the outer reaches of its online empire. Specifically, Hillary Clinton’s former political playground Libya . . .

British guns are being advertised for sale on Facebook in Libya, where thousands of Islamic State fighters are believed to be active.

Rifles, light machine guns and revolvers are among the firearms listed in secret trading groups on the social network, even though Facebook has a strict policy against such transactions.

Once a buyer finds a weapon, deals are negotiated through private messages and phone calls – with some sub-machine guns being sold for as little as £400 . . .

Among the guns it reported being for sale were a Bren light machine gun, which was standard issue for British forces in World War Two, and a Sterling sub-machine gun which was used by the British Army from the 1950s to the 1990s.

Note that the report intimates that the Facebook-sourced guns are going to ISIL fighters. The buyers could just as easily be civilians looking for self-defense, canny entrepreneurs or American-backed “freedom fighters” (if not now, later). Needless to say, Facebook doesn’t care. They’re having none of it, as their official statement on the matter reminds users:

It’s against Facebook’s community standards to co-ordinate private sales of firearms, and we remove any such content as soon as we become aware of it.

We encourage people to use the reporting links found across our site so that our team can review content swiftly.

Sure. Libyans are going to drop a dime on arms dealers. Upon which planet do these Facebook admins live? More to the point, again, how long before Facebook bans all firearms-related content?

  1. It’s almost like banning things only serves to create a black market for them. Who knew? Oh, that’s right, anyone who ever sat through an intro to microeconomics course. Zuck must have slept through that class…

  2. I dont do facebook.I started to,but after downloading it, it appeared to be a spynet.Your profile, picture, friends, then I get all these “so an so’s” live x amount of miles away from you. Yeegads, Noooo facebook for me please and thankfuku

  3. “how long before Facebook bans all firearms-related content?”
I thought they already did? Oops but those instant chats and calls are damn hard to stop.

    • I belong to 24(yeah 24) FB gun groups. It used to be more but some(especially local) trading groups have left the interwebz. Is that a lot? Beats me. TTAG is the only forum where I have any relative freedom. I know the gubmint tracks US too. Heck my own son is an Arabic speaking spy for DOD. You’d think a billionaire Jewish boy would limit Moose-lim terrorism…instead of screw folks who might protect his rich azz.

      • Wow
Another person who made the Jewish connection. Be careful Mr int19h or some other reform jew will complain about someone pointing out the hypocrisy

        • I have encountered jewish people who say they are atheist. They claim you can be both.
They get more milage out of the combination socially.

        • Technically they can, as there is both the Jewish race and the Jewish religion. One can be one but not the other.

      • Zuckerberg is a JINO, just like Soros, Schumer, Feinstein et al. They use their “heritage” when its convenient; politics, money and power is their true religion. Because “go along to get along” worked so well for us throughout history. /end sarc

  4. Maybe Zuck can send them friend requests and some messages of love to stop them.

I would recommend sending ISIS members cute little memes with kittens. Everyone likes kittens.

As we very well know, Islam is a religion of peace: If you don’t convert to Islam, there will be a piece of you here, there, over there…

  5. Wonder if there are enough computer literate people associated with Isis, for them to start running their own forums and social network. Daeshbook or something. Offer free hosting to all arms related content. Heck, they may even have a bit of credibility, should they promise not to not cooperate with and spy on behalf of the NSA and US Government…

  6. I had a pistol stolen from me recently. My wife joined all the local fb gun groups she could find in an attempt to locate it. After much diligence on her part, she found a for sale post one day with my pistol, serial # clearly visible. We notified the popo, and after a few months, I now am in possession of that pistol again. The catch? One week after she found the gun, fb shut the group down. At the time I thought I would never see that gun again. Luckily. The local 5-0 knew the guy in question and tracked him down. He doesn’t have my gun anymore!

    • Id say you got pretty lucky. Good for your wife. But what a dumb donkey to post a stolen gun on face book

  7. I think Zuck has about as much of a chance of stopping any gun transactions in Libya as I do dating a supermodel i.e. infantessimally small.
