Whoopi Goldberg to the Government: Come and Look for My Gun

Senator Rand Paul doesn’t like the idea of the President’s executive orders usurping Congress’s constitutional authority. Nor does he favor the expansion of background checks, fearing that it leads to registration and confiscation. That much you know. But did you know that comedienne Whoopi Goldberg is OK with people – presumably the government – coming to her house and looking for her gat? “Whatever you need.” And then she goes on a tear about . . .

automatic weapons. Sen Paul sets her straight on that score, without mentioning that some Americans do have automatic weapons, which have been involved in precisely zero crimes. Not that we shouldn’t have them, or that they can’t be used for criminal purposes, or that the Second Amendment prohibits the keeping and bearing of fully-automatic weapons. But you know…ignorance.

Anyway, it’s good to know that some liberals are totally OK with the government searching their houses for no particular reason. Oh wait. Because guns.

She is on a week daily show called “the View” created about 13 years ago by Barbara Walters , It airs weekday mornings on ABC around 10:00am
( see listings for your time).

She has a very dark TAN with frizzy hair, and ( I believe) normally
does her squawking sitting on the (tv screen left side) of all the other windbags, yipping about crap.

programming note, NBC’s 4th hour “Today show” with Kathie Lee and Hota Kotb much more pleasant and enjoyable for breakfast dwibble.

    1. avatar Benzo says:

Should the government ever come to peoples houses searching for guns, they’ll encounter a lot of Hotel Californias (in MOST states, I’d wager).

  4. avatar LarryinTX says:

I think if she understood that they would disassemble her multimillion dollar houses, all of them, down to the studs, during the search and then leave them that way, and the first scrap of illegal drugs they found would put her in prison for years (even though they never said they were looking for drugs, even when they brought in the dog), we might find she had changed her mind.

    Dear whoops

The NRA is to the 2nd amendment as the NAACP is to the 14th. Eternal vigilance is required no matter the right. Never emplicitly trust your government, the rights you have today may not be the rights you have tomorrow.

    1. avatar An American in a Blue State says:

Well said Bob. All Constitutionally protected rights are important, not just the ones you are comfortable with.

    2. avatar McCann says:

  10. avatar Mecha75 says:

I am all for her right to express her opinion. She may be right, there might not actually be a reason for people to have automatic weapons. But it doesnt matter if anyone has a reason or not becuase it is a right in the 2nd Amendment. And the reason of that anendment was to ensure that the federal government thinks twice about restricting our liberties (any liberty).

  11. avatar Kyle says:

Funny how whoopy constantly mixes up auto with semi auto. She says she has a gun. I’d bet a large bank of cash that her gun, revolver or auto, fire every time the trigger is pulled (i.e. semi-auto/double action).

    1. avatar Mark_PAV says:

^This^ It’s obvious she has no clue…….and the audience applauded each time she said it.

    2. avatar Jonathan - Houston says:

I don’t expect her to know the difference between flintlock, matchlock, wheellock, and doglock. Even rimfire vs. centerfire might be a bit too much inside baseball for the comedian turned gab fest member. Semiautomatic vs. automatic, though? No, sir, she knows the difference.

She’s being daft and trying to confuse the audience. She keeps saying automatic to intentionally mislead the audience into thinking this is about machine guns, which it has nothing to do with.

She just knows that her typical viewer will respond well to gun control if they think it’s fo cracking down on machine guns. ‘Who needs one of those????’, they’ll ask themselves, before mistakenly agreeing with Whoopi’s pro gun control message. It’s a straw man technique: dishonest, but reliable.

      1. avatar Swilson says:

You know what they say about assuming BUT…I’d wager that the View doesn’t have too many audience members who are range regulars and gun shop commandos.

    1. avatar Ethan says:

I don’t recommend that, but I do find a dark-skinned person arguing for gun control to be terribly ironic, seeing as gun control was originally created in the Jim Crowe days to keep guns out of the hands of newly-freed slaves.

Someone needs to educate Whoopi on what an automatic weapon is. When she says they need to be banned – they are already banned for everyone except the rich, the elite, and Whoopi. And have not been used in any of these shootings.

    To Whoopi:

Long ago (a very long time ago) semi automatics were called “automatics.” This is not the present day terminology.

Automatic: press and hold the trigger – bullets continuously fire from the gun. One trigger pull = multiple shots. These were very heavily regulated in 1934. They were banned from ownership for any manufactured after 1986 for the common man. Today a person has to pay exorbitant $$ to own them. So ownership of these kinds of weapons are for rich people like Whoopi. To my knowledge a fully automatic firearm has never been used in these school shootings.

Semi automatic: one press of the trigger = one bullet exiting the muzzle. The trigger has to be let off and press again for another bullet to exit the muzzle. This is the most popular type of firearm today. This is the basic functionality of virtually all pistols, all revolvers, and a great many rifles and shotguns. These are the types used in mass shootings and are very common. US civilian owned AKs and AR15s etc fall in this category. They are never used for the “military” and are not military rifles. MSR (modern sporting rifles) fall in this category.

Manual action: these are the oldest type with exception to muzzle loaders. They use a lever or a bolt to manually cycle the action.

    1. avatar Dan says:

Actually Rand did clarify the difference, and her response was whatever u know what I mean. Then perpetuates the same myth at the end of Rands statement and completely ignores his entire argument. So she obviously is lazy, ignorant, and doesn’t care what he says. Being that she made her money as an actress lazy and ignorant doesn’t surprise me.

The BellCurve doesn’t have a damn thing to do with this discussion. The last thing we need is to divide and conquer our own ranks through race and gender. You are playing right into the establishments hands

I object. I like automatic weapons. They are super fun to shoot. Also, my guns don’t kill people – they shoot holes in paper for fun. Your assertion that I don’t “need” an automatic weapon is just your fear and opinion.

If I had an opinion that you shouldn’t drive a luxury car because you don’t need one (after all you can drive a Prius) you would disagree right? Probably tell me it was none of my business. If I’m not hurting anyone – it also is none of your business about what I choose to own.

“if you where in [Obama’s] position, what would you do? He doesn’t seem to get any traction…

Maybe I’d recognize that people would like to be free to do what they like (so long as they aren’t hurting anyone else) and nosy homeowner association types seeking to force their opinion on everyone else should grow some tolerance and leave people alone. With tolerance everyone can be free, without it, we could all be miserable?

Also, I could accept that ultimately it is the criminals doing the harm – not whatever tool their using that other responsible people also use without hurting people. That would be a big step also. I mean – you don’t punish Bob for what Frank is doing. Not logical.

ECK…I can stand whoop in small doses. The behar be-otch no-or the creepy former child star(hangin’ with cosby). I’m actually a mite surprised whoop went full retardo on guns as she has “boasted” she was armed in the past. Stupid is as stupid does…

  25. avatar Fred_USVI says:

They’re ok with random searches because they don’t believe they’ll be targeted.
Things change when the cops actually show up to your home and violate your privacy.

I think that’s at the core of the anti-guns fervor. They think its laws for their opponents, and when it backfires and cops are abusing them they take it umbrage at how the whole system works.

  32. avatar uncommon_sense says:

No one needs to stand on the steps of City Hall with a large sign.

But “need” isn’t the point. It is patently, grossly offensive and obscene that Whoopie Goldberg, a politician, or anyone else claims to have the authority to define what I “need” and ban what they claim I do not “need”.

I don’t care whether it is popsicles or firearms … it is NONE OF WHOOPIE GOLDBERG’S BUSINESS NOR GOVERNMENT’S BUSINESS WHAT I “NEED” OR CAN OWN. PERIOD.

What percentage of crimes in the USA are committed with automatic weapons?
Whoopi obviously does not know the history of the 2nd Amendment and it’s relevancy for us today.
She has also never heard of Democide.

I wonder if she would have supported Black Africans to be armed to win their freedom.
If Blacks were truly enslaved today, would she support them to be armed with automatics?

  37. avatar Tom in PA says:

People like Whoopi are ignorant because they choose to be – it’s not a function of some circumstantial absence of available knowledge. It’s a great challenge to communicate any conclusive truth to someone who vigorously scorns incorporating a contrarian fact into their conclusions. Soren Kierkegaard once said: “There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn’t true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.” The Whoopie’s of the world won’t even participate in the most rudimentary due diligence to determine either.

  40. avatar T-DOG says:

This is exactly the problem with people who don’t know how fire arms work and don’t understand the process for getting a fire arm making laws for fire arms. They really should take the time to go out to a range and learn the differences in firearms. Then they would figure out that all of their common sense solutions are on the books and not being enforced.

I’m also really surprised that Whoopi is a gun owner yet comes across as uneducated in fire arms basics. She is a very intelligent person who I’m sure goes to great lengths to research an acting role she will be playing. I would think or at least hope she takes the owner of a fire arm just as seriously. I’m also curious if shes got a concealed carry permit for where she lives in southern California. Cause if this is who they are giving those to while denying the average citizen is the exact reason we should require shall issue across this country at a minimum.

  41. avatar SuperG says:

In my opinions Whoopi is a racist. Years ago when HBO gave her a special, she demanded it take place at a club that only allows Black entertainers only. Aside from that, even when corrected with the facts, she still insists on being ignorant and calling them automatic weapons. For some, learning is just not part of the equation.

  42. avatar Scoutino says:

All good arguments guys. But let’s not forget the main reason why we, the people DO need fully automatic weapons. Same reason the constitution forbids the government infringing our right to keep and bear arms.
Yes, it is for killing people. Yes, it’s for battlefield use. Yes, it helps when you need to keep the enemy’s heads down to allow you to move. When the enemy is a tyrant we need all and any arms to fight him including FA. I hope it never happens and deterrent of mere possibility of armed resistance against power grabbing madman is enough.
The fun, defense against crime and sport use is just bonus.
