“I speak as someone who loves America and loves Americans. But having been brought up in a country where there are no guns, the one thing that you’re completely struck by when you come to America is the amount of paranoia and fear that infests daily life in almost every sphere of American society because of the presence of guns.” – Pier Morgan quoted in Piers Morgan on gun control: ‘To me, doing nothing is unconscionable’ [via pri.org]

  1. Most people here seem pretty oblivious to almost everything, except what they want, socializing, and entertainment, as far as I can tell. I don’t know anyone who spends much time afraid much less paranoid.

  2. His job used to be getting people agitated and afraid and he sucked at it, all he did was piss everyone off with his ignorance.

  3. Growing up as a subject to the crown or parliament which ever for now they are the same it is hard to understand the constitution for you where born to serve. Here we where born to protect and do what ever it took to survive and still do. Firearms are just another tool in survival for everyone. Whether it’s in the deep Alaskan interior or deep in a mall in Tennessee each has it’s own dangers and a firearm just improves our chances to survive. Plus, the are really one of the only tools in the world that truly has a sporting side to it’s existence. Growing up believing they are bad is hard to get out of a man who never truly grew up free…

  4. “I speak as someone who loves America and loves Americans. But having been brought up in a country where there are no guns,”

So why are you still here if you don’t like it?
    what country has NO guns?

    • He is delusional about his home country. The U.K. still has guns in private hands. Yes they are tightly regulated, but he is flat out wrong to say he grew up in a country with NO guns. And if he can’t get the laws of his homeland correct, then he certainly has no business commenting on the laws of other countries.

  5. Paranoia –
    noun
    1.
Psychiatry. a mental disorder characterized by systematized delusions and the projection of personal conflicts, which are ascribed to the supposed hostility of others, sometimes progressing to disturbances of consciousness and aggressive acts believed to be performed in self-defense or as a mission.
    2.
baseless or excessive suspicion of the motives of others.

Yes. Let’s permit our nation and society to be run by the whims of the paranoid. For the children.

  6. Uh, Piers, ol boy; guess you aren’t keeping up with your “Merry Old England”:

    Metropolitan Police Service
Armed Response Units & Specialist Firearms Officers

The Metropolitan Police Service first introduced ‘Armed Response Vehicles’ to the streets of London in 1991.

These vehicles are crewed by uniformed officers who have been selected and trained to stabilise and control armed incidents, stop and search suspects, their vehicles and to search premises for armed suspects.

These officers are the first ‘Armed officers’ to arrive on the scene and in serious cases can call for the support of specialist firearms teams.

Each Armed Response Vehicle (ARV) is crewed by three officers in police uniform who patrol specific areas of London to ensure the fastest response. Each member of the crew has specific functions whilst responding to calls. The ‘driver’ is responsible for getting the crew to the scene in the fastest, safest way possible having regard to the public presence on the roads. The ‘operator’ is responsible for the many in-car communications and extracting the maximum amount of information prior to their arrival. The ‘observer’ in the rear of the vehicle has a London map book and provides the driver with a suitable route.

[ COMMENT: Hey, Guys: think ‘‘GPS” 😉 ]

When the officers first arrive they will make an immediate assessment. If an armed containment is deemed necessary to isolate an armed suspect from the public, then two of the crew will deploy leaving one to control the incident, calling for further armed support and liaising with the local senior police officer. All these officers are personally armed with ‘Glock’ 17 self-loading pistols and two of the officers have access to ‘Heckler and Koch’ MP5 carbines as shown here.

Supervising officers from the firearms department also patrol in marked police vehicles and attend incidents as they develop. They take charge of the armed officers present and give the local senior officer tactical advice on how to resolve these incidents in the safest possible way. They carry additional equipment, which may have to be used particularly if force is needed to gain entry to premises.

In addition to the 24-hour response provided by the ARV’s the MPS also employs a number of Specialist Firearms Officers (SFOs) to provide an enhanced firearms capability to the MPS. These officers undergo advanced firearms training and are also available 24 hours a day.

Their role includes dealing with all pre-planned operations as well as providing the MPS with a hostage-rescue capability. Specialist Firearms Officers can be deployed at any firearms incident in the MPS subject to the authority of a senior officer.

The workload of these ARVs has increased dramatically since their inception. In their first year they were actively deployed on 132 occasions. In 1999, they deployed 1,440 times. 2000 this figure was 1441. In 2001 it was 1058 and 2002 2490 times.

Not all calls result in an armed deployment, many calls turn out to be false or not armed related. In 1999 ARVs responded to 15,901 emergency calls. In 2000 this figure was 12763, in 2001 10463 and 13394 in 2002.

ARVs are there to protect and respect the people of London. They are on patrol 24 hours a day, seven days a week for 52 weeks of the year.

So, Piers: if everything’s so “peachy keen” there in the YooKay, why the armed “Bobbies”???

So, Piers: if everything’s so “peachy keen” there in the YooKay, why the armed “Bobbies”???

    • Having done 911 response before (in an ambulance making minimum wage), I can emphatically tell you that, while using GPS is not a cardinal sin, relying on GPS is. Once you know your city, you’re more effective or just as effective with a paper map. Plus the nuances of which route is fastest change when you’re using lights and sirens.

More importantly, did they say a Glock 17 and an MP5?! Both in 9×19?! We learned our lesson about that one in the Hollywood shootout… gotta be able to punch body armor. (No, I was not there.)

  8. Didn’t he spend most of his time here in NYC? What’s he jabbering on about guns for, it’s easier to get a permit to carry a gun in the UK than NYC!

    • Ah, but that’s not at all the same thing as being able to get a gun, period.

The guys on the street corner do background checks too, however. Rather than a 4473, they ask useful and relevant questions – who sent you, are you a cop, you got the money – and there are immediate consequences for answering falsely.

      • Ah yes, in the UK criminal gangs can’t get guns since they’ve been banned, just like in American the criminals can’t get their hands on crack cocaine since it was banned.

  9. Maybe if he went out and lived among real Americans instead of the shit hole NYC he would have a better understanding.

  10. All Piers Morgan’s remarks demonstrate is the difference between being raised in a Serfdom and being raised as an American. The reason you should love America, Piers, is that here you can break the mental and emotional chains and inhibitions placed on your intellect and self-esteem as a Human Being by the Monarchy and Parliament of the U.K. and become your own person. But if, after all the time you’ve been here, you cannot understand that, then go back to the U.K. and stay there because you’ve entirely missed the point of being an American.

  11. If that guy wants to see real fear, all he has to do is go home to where people must cower in fear if they are attacked by a criminal. The government has passed laws against self defense, they don’t want you damaging their criminals. Not only are guns outlawed you better not bash the brains out of some thug who breaks into your flat. Like Morgan, they value the lives of their thugs as much as the people they prey on.

Over there a safety campaign means more spy cams watching everyone. London supposedly has the most spy cams per square mile of any city on earth, so they will have good video of the bad guy cutting you up before he takes your wallet, and the video may even help them catch him. Good luck with your recovery in their second rate public hospitals.

  12. Does he live in an alternate universe ? I don’t see any paranoia related to guns in my daily life. Except for what I see from Piers and those like him. Think he is attempting to project his fears on the rest of us. And doing a piss poor job of it. Wish he would shut up and go back to his beloved England where they all live in bliss and harmony (yeah right).

  13. Deport all illegal aliens along with those attempting to overthrow our Constitution.
We’ve already decided, signed in blood, we don’t give an F about how Brits think we should run our country.
Is there a revocation procedure on naturalization?

  14. Good lord, grandmothers in Oregon have bigger balls than this guy!
I truly wish no one harm but don’t you just want to see how they would react to a ny mugging or maybe drop them into the streets of Syria?
Then maybe he would ” get it”

  15. Hoplophobia is a mental illness. Which I suppose precludes antis from ever owning firearms.

    Darwinism at it’s finest.

  16. It’s not paranoia, it’s preparedness. Most people don’t drive a car without a spare, but when you go on a typical drive you don’t really expect to need it. Many people have AAA, health insurance, and auto liability insurance. While part of this is legal compliance another part of it is they want to have options when things don’t go right. It’s not living in fear, it’s just accepting reality and planning for contingencies. Living in fear is depending on a rape alarm and hoping the police show up in time and trying to figure out how to make stab proof knives.

  17. Morgan is a fool. It’s like he thinks if there’s no guns you won’t get beaten to death stabbed to death run over set on fire strangled to death ect.
I personally would rather a nice quick death by firearm as opposed to some of the others I listed.

  18. Well, if doing nothing is unconscionable to you, then do something, you insufferable prig – get out and stay out. That way, we will both be happy.

  19. I wonder what country this loser is from then. Because even the UK has a healthy sport shooting culture – al biet restricted to hell and back by politicians guarded by armed security.

  20. When the rich, the powerful, the politicians have thier armed body guards, it’s just being prudent. After all, thier important people.

But when the “useless eaters and breeders” want to be armed to protect thier lives, they’really just being paranoid and fearful.

  21. Approximately four times as many people die in the US each year from medical malpractice as die from being shot by a gun.

Where is you outrage for this Pierce?

Where is the Democratic outrage? Why isn’t this at least a once a week special on MSNBC.

    • The newest estimates says medical malpractice deaths could be as high as 200 to 400 hundred thousand a year.

Gun deaths total are about 32 thousand but about 64% are suicide, so that wouldn’t change if guns weren’t available.

So about 10 thousand are gun related, which means medical malpractice could be anywhere from 20 to 40 times that of death by gun.

  22. The number of guns I see carried by non police individuals every day: 0. They all act like there are people with guns in their hands all the time everywhere you go. Lies, damn lies, and statistics.

  23. What does Piers mean he was raised in a country without guns? Silencers are even legal over there. I wish that were true here in California.

  24. My favorite Pierced Organ moment was when he took up a cricket bat and faced a top English bowler (a pitcher in cricket-speech). The bowler drilled him in the back — hard — three times. It was lovely.

My only suggestion to the bowler should they meet again — head shots.

  25. Correction to Mr P. Morgan’s comment; there are not no guns in this country.

As someone who loves America and Americans, despite having never been there… I apologise for the ignorance and arrogance of unpeople such as Piers Morgan.

  26. Given that the British Government has pretty thoroughly sodomized the British public, I think a little more paranoia would greatly benefit the British people.

  27. Go figure. An Englishman hates American guns. He is a subject to the crown, regardless of what his immigration papers say. Better to lose a few hundred lives exercising freedom rather than millions to a dictator/monarchy.
America is the most advanced civilization on this planet, matter what Europeans say. Take a f***ing history course. What happened to all those disarmed people?

  28. Using his logic, people are paranoid for keeping on hand first aid kits and fire extinguishers, wearing floaties when boating, and buckling seat belts while riding cars. Um nope. In fact people who do all of the above are conscious of the worst case scenarios but they’re free from the fear that they’ll be powerless when the worst case scenario comes. That is what owning a firearm is about, to be aware of the worst possibilities and to be prepared for them when they happen; it’s the exact opposite of fear.

  29. Many people seem to confuse preparedness and having a sense of individual responsibility, with paranoia and fear. It’s mostly those that either do not want to make the effort, or are too emotionally fragile. Piers strikes me as the latter, but I see his point. In jolly old England there is no right to defend yourself, nor are they allowed any means to do so. If they find themselves threatened with force, they are pretty much restrained to using nothing more than a stern tone of voice. Effectively, there is nothing that they can do, and they have been so conditioned into this situation of subservience and helplessness that they’ve come to embrace it. It’s become something like a child’s security blanket. The thought of having the amount of individual freedom to actually be individually responsible for oneself must be absolutely traumatizing. It makes me think of a coddled child that is one day forced out into the real world to succeed or fail, all alone and helpless.

  30. Piers had a middle-middle upbringing and attended a comprehensive. Had he instead been exposed to country life among the gentry, he would realize that Britain is well-equipped with guns. True, the guns are mainly shotguns and bolt-action rifles, but they’re guns. Many of the nicer country manses have a dedicated gun room, in effect a walk-in safe. House parties involving a weekend of shooting are still not rare…if you’re part of that set. Piers isn’t.

    • “Comprehensive” is a NOUN in Britain’s dead-end version of the English language? They’d be better off speaking German, a modern language which exhibits even more adaptability than American English.

Or they could try French, which has at least 50 years of usefulness remaining, because they’ll be speaking French in former French colonies long after the French have moved on.

  31. I could have done fine waking up today, making my coffee, sitting down in front of the computer and getting the news so far, checking my normal websites including TTAGs AND NOT SEEN THAT CLOWNS FACE or anything he says.

  32. How did this twit even enter the US. What useful skill might he have to advance our economy?

    Go home and stay there.

  33. Piers, you and Brits like you lost the right to have a say in our gun laws, when you tried a gun confiscation at Lexington and Concord.

  34. Somewhere trees are working hard converting CO2 to oxygen for this twit to breathe. I want to protest on their behalf! The only fair thing is to put a plastic bag over his head.

  35. Still don’t know who this Piers Morgan chick is or why I should care what her opinion of our country and its countrymen is.

  36. This clown is still around? Well then Mr Morgan may I make a suggestion? Go sit in a corner somewhere and eat an extra large bag of shut your mouth! Why are you still here in the USA? Does your country not want you back? You truly disgust me!

  37. The paranoia and fear seems to be all on his part. Projection much?

I like the way he squeezes his chin so it looks like he’s got a butt on the bottom of his face. It’s rather appropriate.

  38. I love how Morgan thinks he gets to decide what is best for a country he is not a citizen. That because he loves America, somehow he knows best what is good for us. Not!

  39. He confuses paranoia and fear with preparedness and self sufficiency. He lives under the rule of government, we live with a government under our rule. We may stray but we have the document fully intact. Our freedoms, like our religion belong to us and no one can ever take them away. He will likely never understand a person that relies on himself and not government

  40. Piers is a charlatan who is largely hated back in the U.K.. Now that most Americans hate him too, it seems the only logical place he has left to go is Australia. Which is a great place for him – it has draconian gun laws, and it’s on the other side of the planet so it will be impossible for him to be physically farther away.

  41. This Piece of garbage is so relevant I’m glad they cancel his show gun grabbing piece of garbage should go back to Britain where the hell he’s from where there is no guns

  42. I have the right to protect myself and if you don’t like it tough $hit. Piers is a MORON!!! His king took away the peoples RIGHT to defend themselves in Scotland, America and everywhere else they went to enslave them. America kicked the English A$$ and he is crying about it now. Out of all the people I have ever heard Piers is the stupidest.
No double standards put DC politicians on Obamacare and SS.Thanks for your support and vote.Pass the word. mrpresident2016.com

  43. I was completely struck, when I watched Piers Morgan for the first time, his level of unfounded paranoia, contempt and fear that infests his daily life because of the presence of guns and our Second Amendment ”
