Gun control is a fact of life in the former land of hope and glory. They lost their right to own a gun ages ago, traded it for almost ubiquitous surveillance and the warm comfort of the security state. The UK has become a continuous race to the bottom in terms of gun control legislation. It’s like looking into the future of America, if Michael Bloomberg and Vivek Murthy get their way. Recently there was a news report about a game keeper in the UK committing suicide, and while most people commented on the tragedy of the situation, there was one UK politician who celebrated the unfortunate event, and even went so far as to proclaim that in his opinion all gun owners should follow suit and kill themselves. No, really.
From the Daily Mail:
An anti-bloodsport campaigner and councillor has provoked fury by claiming that the suicide of a former soldier and game hunter was the ‘best use of a gun I can think of’.
Thomas Woodward is facing calls to quit over the ‘outrageous’ remarks, which were posted on the Hunt Saboteurs Association’s Facebook page.
The 48-year-old – a Liberal councillor on Ryedale District and Pickering Town councils in North Yorkshire – made the comments after reading reports about the death of Allan Ellis.
Mr Ellis, 50, a former Scots Guard from Bacup, Lancashire, shot himself in August after learning he was to be sued over a £40,000 debt. Mr Woodward wrote: ‘We would all rather live in a world where no one kills for fun. However, if you choose to own a gun and kill for pleasure, then it’s best you kill yourself.’
‘I don’t agree with guns,’ he said. ‘People buy guns to kill things. If someone is going to buy a gun then the best reason for doing so is to kill themselves.
‘I disagree with killing anything. If disagreement with killing things means I upset shooting enthusiasts, then so be it.’
The current game plan of gun control activists in the United States isn’t to ban guns through legislation — instead, their strategy is to make guns socially unacceptable. It’s the reason why they’re going after retail stores to
bully convince them to ban guns. It’s why they harp on “concealed carry killers,” and make every effort to brand gun owners as redneck idiots and racists. They don’t need to win the battle in the legislature if they can win the culture war by ostracizing gun owners in their communities.
What we see in Woodward’s rant is the final result of that cultural conditioning: no compassion whatsoever. The blind belief that all gun owners are murderous maniacs and idiots. And since they are all murderers, their lives don’t matter. They would all be better off dead. Its a pretty short hop from “these gun owners should kill themselves” to “lets help them kill themselves” to “how about you jump into that cattle car?” I don’t believe that we should be killing people or wishing them harm based on their political beliefs. I guess Mr. Woodward doesn’t agree.
