Chris Dumm Shoots a Machine Gun for the First Time

Our man Chris had never fired a machine gun before. Last night, he fired a full auto SCAR-H and SCAR-L. It’s a hell of a way to kick off your machine gun shooting days. You can feel the smile, even though you can’t see it. Enjoy.

    Grats buddy. It’s fun isn’t it? 🙂

Cheap MGs for yourself start at $4k now and the sky (not sccy) is the limit.

    1. avatar B says:

SCCY should be most people’s (lower) limit.

  2. avatar TheSleeperHasAwaken says:

Wouldn’t a more appropirate title be, “Chris Dumm Shoots an Assault Rifle for the First Time”?

You know…practice what you preach and such.

    1. avatar Travis says:

ATF definition of a machine gun

    2. avatar Bruce L. says:

I’ve shot a full auto M16. Does that mean I’ve shot a machine gun?

      1. avatar PhoenixNFA says:

        By the ATFs definition, yes.

        1. avatar a.a. says:

Cause everybody loves the ATF. How bout we use the right terms, that is a assault rifle, not a machine gun, if you got a full auto MP5, you got a submachine gun. You going to call a full auto glock a machine gun? If you are shooting a M60, Mk46 or Mk48, M240, M2, you got a machine gun.

  3. avatar jwm says:

There’s no way in peace time to shoot a machine gun and not smile. Even Shannon Watt would bust into a grin.

    1. avatar Taylor Tx says:

right before her head summarily exploded from shock.

  4. avatar Ralph says:

Las Vegas is THE place to do things that you’ve never done before. And what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, thanks to antibiotics.

    1. avatar jwm says:

      Adult Disneyland, for sure.

    2. avatar defensor fortisimo says:

Except for herpes, that shit stays with you FOREVER

  5. avatar user3369 says:

Every time I watch a friend shoot a suppressed or automatic weapon, I can’t help but wonder why people think it is so evil. What else can create that kind of grin and laugh?

Evil my ass. Guns are fun.

  6. avatar Anon in CT says:

    That’s an auto-rifle.

The Gun Shop in Vegas had a SAW you could shoot last I was there. I real, albeit baby, machine gun.

  7. avatar tom w a glock says:

Full auto is always guaranteed to bring a smile. Even better is full auto from an armored vehicle. Heck, I always got a ‘Michael Dukakis’ smile just riding around in one.

  8. avatar JustLeaveLawfulGunOwnersAlone says:

Always good to see someone get the giggle-switch cherry popped.
It will irreversibly change your gun-buying thought process. “for just an extra 10k I could have this in FA” “maybe I just skip this one and put the money in the FA fund” “I always wanted to become an FFL, why not do it now” “All that paperwork and fees certainly are not as bad as I thought they were” “how hard could it be to become friends with the local LE’s armorer or range master”

  9. avatar El Mac says:

Hey, there is a club called the US military. There you can get your machine gun all you want. And its for real, not play. Just a suggestion.

    1. avatar Steve in MD says:

And get killed because of politically correct rules of engagement.

      No thanks.

      1. avatar El Mac says:

Need some cheese with that whine?

      2. avatar Ed Rogers says:

I never had the opportunity to shoot full auto, although I spent over 26 years in the USAF. Personally, I never had the desire. Now that I have to PAY for my ammunition, it diminishes any whiff of a want altogether…

        1. avatar Anon in CT says:

Air Force? You should have joined the military instead.

      3. avatar TheBear says:

        Been there, done that…

Saw an E5 go to the brig for shooting a dog…

        Spent all day cleaning M-240Bs…

I prefer working from home now lol.

    2. avatar emfourty gasmask says:

I joined for that reason. Machine guns, woo!

However, reality quickly set in when I learned that I had to carry it for miles on end in some crappy terrain.

      The novelty wore off quick.

      1. avatar El Mac says:

      2. avatar Sixpack70 says:

Talking 240s is one of the most beautiful sounds ever!

  10. avatar michael nieto says:

As Ted Nugent said the pierce “lemme see your machine gun smile” no one can resist smiling the first time the shoot one even a hoplophobe like Morgan congrats to this guy the more machine guns people shoot the more danger the Hughes ammendment is in

  11. avatar BDub says:

Not much beats shootin’ Ma Deuce off the weapon mount of my wrecker – but an M60 was close.

    1. avatar Taylor Tx says:

Yea a buddy of mine said almost the exact same thing about the M-2 in a humvee and his m240b, “nothing compares”.

      1. avatar TheBear says:

Same goes for cleaning them too.

I swear there is no harder weapon to GI than the M240. I spent a couple hours on the heat shield alone.

  12. avatar Taylor Tx says:

Always wanted to, bumpfire stocks and other crap dont come close. I have a FA BCG in my AR just in case 🙂

I never gave in and paid money for the machine gun rentals at the range for some reason, although the only time Ive really ever seen that sort of rental openly displayed was in Houston. For a first time, Id like sure to find a maxim 😀

  13. avatar mike says:

Don’t get used to it….very expensive hobby lol.

Experiencing true full auto (not just burst) with a silencer, outdoors, is probably THE pinnacle of it all.

  14. avatar Tom in Oregon says:

You popped his cherry on a SCAR?
He will never be the same.

    1. avatar a.a. says:

There are a lot better rifles than the Scar for him to first shoot full auto. The Scar family is a huge failure.

      1. avatar El Mac says:

Strong words. I wouldn’t call ’em a huge failure, but they aren’t the be all end all.

        1. avatar a.a. says:

Lets see, the MK20 is a dismal piece of crap, you take your suppressor off, well you just lost your zero. The gun goes full auto all the time, not something you want out of a sniper platform. The mk 16 was a joke, and the MK17s are insanely unreliable. Its why FN replaces all broken Scars without a question free of charge, they know they put a crappy platform out. 3 out of the 7 guys who used Scars on my last deployment had them go down on a op and have to be sent out of country. I will stick with my 14, until HK417s start making it around. It is a incredibly overrated platform, especially when much better options exist and are proven. Its why you don’t ever see cag or damneck using them.

        2. avatar El Mac says:

Ok, point. Guys I worked with in 7 weren’t shot in the ass with the 17s either. They definitely are very overhyped.

          I’ll keep my FALs.

        3. avatar a.a. says:

Yeah, it sucks cause they are pulling our 14s away from us, and forcing the Scars. And the only guys who are going to be getting the HKs are cag and damneck. Love the FALs though, great guns.

        4. avatar El Mac says:

Thats too bad. And utter bullshit as well. They shouldn’t be forcing a weapon on anyone.

  15. avatar David says:

I watched the video three times to make sure of what I saw and I’d like to point out something about your technique Mr. Dumm. With a SCAR or other 5.56 platform your technique won’t hurt. But if you fire something with some recoil with the stock in your bicep it will hurt. The stock should be on your chest where your pectoral inserts into your shoulder. This video demonstrates:

And what he doesn’t mention in the video is that you should be facing the target more squarely. The recoil will go into your pectoral and ribs which have few nerves.

    Best Regards,

  16. avatar C says:

I got to shoot an MP5/40 belonging to the county sheriff’s dept during my CCW class. (instructor was a deputy on the tactical team. A rare upside to police militarization) The whole thing was completely drama free. Sub machine guns are disappointingly non boner inducing. 5.56 is probably a little better, but i have heard very good things about rocking and rolling in 7.62.
