OMG! Women Carrying Guns in Ohio! OMG!

Sisters are doing it for themselves (courtesy

Click here for a wide-eyed news report on women carrying guns in Cincinnati. Fox19 investigates! “Cases like Brittany Stykes – a young pregnant mother who was gunned down in her car on a Brown County road. Her one-year-old daughter was also shot but miraculously survived. Another case is Alisha Waters – a 31-year-old woman tracked down and shot by her estranged husband and paralyzed. She is currently recovering. The recent headlines are terrifying. That’s why so many more women are arming themselves.” The script makes the pistol-packing women seem like scared little rabbits. The video, however, shows skilled, determined women getting their ballistic groove on. The report’s a welcome sign that the Buckeye State is deep in the throes of gun normalization. Better yet, there’s no “balancing” comment from a local gun control group. Although the news package is an exercise in d’uh put this one in the win column.

  1. avatar CarlosT says:

Guns, especially handguns, are the great equalizer. There’s no other self-defense technology that compares. That’s why, among other things, gun control is discriminatory against women, the elderly, and the disabled.

    1. avatar Jim R says:

It’s also discriminatory against minorities and the poor.

  2. avatar Tomy Ironmane says:

I think it interesting to note that you see some “pink handguns” but the handguns you see the women using in these clips are seldom, if ever, pink. One young lady was even using a 1911, which I really think is a far better “for small shooters” pistol than some give it credit for. Sure it’s a great big scary black barrel and an all-steel brick that weighs twice as much as a polymer pistol. The weight keeps the recoil down, the big plowing bullet moving at slow speed helps keep the recoil down and provide plenty of knockdown power at the other end, and the big scary black barrel? That’s YOUR big scary black barrel now.

I’m starting to like Ohio more and more.

    1. avatar Mighty Mo says:

I can confirm that……my wife won’t touch the pink ones. She says she likes hers full size, long barreled, and black……..hey, wait a minute…….

      1. avatar Tomy Ironmane says:

I gotta wonder why everything that they design for women has gotta be cutesy pink plastic? I think that’s sexist… “We don’t think you’re smart enough to appreciate clean lines and quality so we’ll make shit pink for you.”

    2. avatar mp says:

Ohio is doiing a great jb with 2a

My wife just got her CCP and a Sig 232 for xmas…..

OHIO is the Texas of the Midwest

      1. avatar Totenglocke says:

“OHIO is the Texas of the Midwest”

        Except Ohio has open carry.

        1. avatar Tomy Ironmane says:

Ohio has been getting better, but it’s still a patchwork of shifting, changing, and often poorly labeled CCW laws that feels a bit like a game of “gotcha!”

        2. avatar JT says:

Tomy, Ohio has state preemption for gun laws. There is no patchwork of CCW laws. There is state law and that is the final word. Some municipalities still have their old laws buried in the books but are usually pretty eager to get rid of them once they are found to avoid getting sued and they can’t be enforced anyways.

  3. avatar Ima Yeti says:

Nothing sexier than wimmin packin heat! Not sure why we need a news article about it, unless some people are just getting a clue. Overall, I think the report will encourage more wimmin to get heaters which is great for the sport.

  4. avatar Zachste says:

Woot woot Cincinnati. We have a fairly strong gun culture and community here in southern ohio. Had Ben Swann still been at fox19 I’m sure he’d have done this story much more justice.

    1. avatar JT says:

Swann isn’t there anymore? That is a shame. Dude is insanely smart. He had his masters by age 16.

  5. avatar gastorgrab says:

It’s funny that these big terrible men still need a gun to do their dirty work …….. or any tool at all for that matter.

The sporting thing to do would be to give them a fair fight.

    1. avatar MOG says:

If you are fighting fair, you ain’t trying hard enough.

    2. avatar B says:

Rapists are well known for their penchant for fair play. Their lack of it.

    3. avatar Luis says:

Tell that to Sarah McKinley, the young widow in OK, who shotgunned a guy who entered her trailer home, armed with an 11-inch butcher knife, about a year ago; intent on harming her and her infant son.

‘Detached reflection cannot be demanded of, in the presence of an upraised knife”.

      — Oliver Wendell Holmes

God made men and women, but Sam Colt made them equal. My own adage.

  6. avatar ThomasR says:

Beyond the almost obligatory disclaimer at the very end that more guns can lead to more suicides and accidental shootings; (which is not supported by real scientific studies) I found the news report to be very evenhanded in the presentation of the material and of the women shown talking about why they started shooting.

One of the last clips of a woman shooter saying calmly and matter of fact, ” If it comes down to him or me, it’s not going to be me”.

  7. avatar Jay in Florida says:

Good for the women of Ohio and the United States.
No reason they should depend on a man for their own protection.
I although as a man, believe pink guns……..kind of ridiculous and even a tad degrading for a women.

    1. avatar SteveInCO says:

If it will get someone to buy it and carry it, I don’t care if it’s yellow and dayglow green paisley. (shudder).

    2. avatar Gov. William J. Le Petomane says:

I don’t object to pink guns in of themselves, but anyone (any ladies that is) who owns one should be well aware that children are much more likely to mistake them for toy guns.

      1. avatar Dave Noice says:

And THAT is why children should be taught about guns at an early age.

    3. avatar CA_Chris says:

To flip that around, the same argument would claim that black guns are degrading stereotype of male aesthetic preferences. They are made because it is assumed that that is what consumers want, and they sell.

      1. avatar Phydeaux says:

That’s why guns now come in flat dark earth!

        1. avatar Salty Bear says:

Also known as “the color of barf after biscuts and gravy.”

  8. avatar Ralph says:

So the MSM in Ohio think that maybe it’s okay for women to have guns. Whoopie! When they come to the same conclusion for men, let me know.

  9. avatar Rob says:

Can’t have women defending themselves, now can we! Rapists the world over support gun control.

I’m not gonna write any PC-BS: I, an average guy, have more upper body strength than the average woman. Hand-to-Hand, sans weapon, it will be no contest. I will win. Put a Glock 26 (All Guns should be Glocks, and all Glocks should be 9 mm, and model 26! Suck it James Yeager fans! 😛 ) in the hand of that same average woman, and she’ll have a fighting chance. A chunk of lead, traveling at 1000+ feet per second to the chest has a 100% success-rate of stopping rape.

Give a 12-13 year old girl who weighs barely 100 pounds, put an AR-15 in her hands, have the stock set up so that she can shoulder the weapon, load it with a standard capacity magazine full of hollow point 5.56 rounds, and she’ll be able to hold off an angry mob.

  10. avatar OHgunner says:

On the unit I work on at a Cinci hospital, there are 5-6 female nurses that I talk to who have CCW’s. Now, they can’t carry at work, but it says a lot when that many people (~15% of total staff on unit) working in a gun free zone and a predominantly female profession carry.

Around here, guns ARE the norm. And I like it.

  11. avatar Your Friendly Neighborhood Anon says:

Ohio is a pretty good state.

  12. avatar SteveInCO says:

Now if only Ohio had reciprocity with Colorado. Of course one *can* go open carry!

  13. avatar Jeremy says:

My only complaint about Ohio is the ridiculous magazine limit. Trips to the range are almost always a good mix of men and women shooting, and there’s always a class of 5-10 people learning on the handgun ranges.

    1. avatar mp says:

mag limit in ohio is 30, no?

      1. avatar Totenglocke says:

Yes, because long ago some idiot Democrat got any firearm with a magazine over 30 rounds classified as a machine gun. We have a bill up in the State legislature to fix this issue. Though, it’s not enforced in any way.

  14. avatar Gov. William J. Le Petomane says:

I like how the reporter asserts that having a gun in the home makes you more likely to commit suicide. Absolutely brilliant!

    1. avatar CA_Chris says:

A gun in the home makes a suicidal person (with access to that gun) more likely to kill themselves with the gun, the same way the presence of knives, pills, rope, electricity, gasoline/engines, etc make a suicidal person more likely to attempt suicide.

Theres a reason when a person is committed, the hospital doesnt just take away guns; they take away all metal, all fabrics that can be made into rope, any hard objects that can moved, swallowed, or broken into swallowable pieces, and so on. A suicidal state can exist independent of environmental factors.

      1. avatar Gov. William J. Le Petomane says:

People who kill themselves with guns are NOT making a desperate plea for attention. If you commit suicide with a gun, you WILL find another way.

Not that I object to taking the guns from a suicidal person, but you really can’t just let them walk the streets and assume their just fine, just because they’ve lost access to their firearms. Now if they try to OD on Flintstones vitamins, that’s a different story.

        1. avatar Tomy Ironmane says:

The kind of people who assert that the presence of guns increases suicide risk are doing one of two things. They are either being bloody disingenuous liars attempting to disarm YOU, or they are attempting to abdicate their rights and responsibilities pursuant to their existence as a free human being. The problem, the big schism we are seeing right now is between the Citizens of the United States of America, and its SHEEP.

If you think someone you know is suicidal, you do what reasonable human beings do and TALK to them. If you’re still concerned about them, you keep an eye on them maybe, or contact someone who can.

        2. avatar Dave Noice says:

When they banned handguns in Canada, the suicides by gun went down, and the suicides by hanging went up.

  15. avatar Anonymous says:

OMG! A woman with a weapon on her. Able to defend herself at any time with LETHAL force!

    Kind of arousing.

  16. avatar MOG says:

Honey, I hope that is a gun in your panties.

  17. avatar Kathy says:

All of my guns are black, except for 3 revolvers which are stainless steel with black grips.
Did buy a Mossberg 500 20 gauge shotgun with pink camo stock and forend but changed out the stock for black pistol grip stock. Left the pink forend so husband is not tempted to “borrow” it. I also have a Pink Butler Creek LULA Pistol Magazine Loader 9mm, but only got it in pink to distingush it from Black .380 LULA Pistol Magazine Loader, so don’t toss wrong caliber loader in Black and Pink Tactical Range Bag from Amazon, cause it’s just a great range bag. Well that, and keeps the husband from sneaking off with my Ruger 95 9mm pistol to go shoot with the guys.

  18. avatar Salwolff says:

County court houses are busy issuing ccw’s. Just take the advice of your class instructors, and avoid those counties that really drag out the time in granting your ccw.

  19. I hope somebody showed the woman in the photo how to correctly grip, hold and fire a handgun.

    1. avatar Dave Noice says:

      Your comment confuses me.

It strikes me as a bit sexist.

  20. avatar IdahoPete says:

“If it comes down to him or me, it’s not going to be me”. Pretty much summarizes why my sister in Ohio got her CCW when they first made them “shall issue” several years ago. She carries a S&W J-frame .357 snubbie. Her most recent purchase – just for fun – was a Ruger 10/22 takedown. Dang uppity wimmens – wanting to be able to defend themselves without carrying a cop in their purse. Great trend.
