Pictures from the 2013 FNH USA 3-Gun Championship

Last week, I made the trip out to West Virginia for the FNH USA 3-Gun championship. I’ll have the full posts in a few days, but until then enjoy a few pictures of some of the snazzier looking competitors and gear . . .

I was there shooting a USPSA match the same weekend. Quite a turnout. PNTC is a great facility.

  2. avatar (Formerly) MN Matt says:

Is that an Elcan SpecterDR on that first guy’s AR? I’d love one of those optics…but damn if that price tag wouldn’t take a significant chunk out of my school loan. I’d love it of TTAG did a review on one – it’s too bad that gear and gun reviews have become so rare these days. Oh well…such is the environment that we currently live in.

    1. avatar Andrew says:

I was thinking how much I’ve missed the gear reviews lately…

    2. avatar Wade says:

And what few reviews we do get are for cheap stuff. I want HK, not Kel-Tec. I get the whole budgetary constraint thing, but I’d trade 10 Saturday night special reviews for 1 of, say, that elcan scope. Or a Sig P227. Or a LaRue rifle.

      Just sayin’

  3. avatar Andrew says:

Okay, whats going on in the 4th picture down?

Is “stab the dummy” now part of the 3 gun series?

If so I respect your views and would like an informative pamphlet…

    1. avatar Swarf says:

“You have just stabbed a dummy, for some reason. When the buzzer sounds, you will turn to your rifle and begin.

      1. avatar Matt in FL says:

You got it. Nick wrote about it recently here:

The shooter’s hands are on a plastic knife which is positioned above a dummy as if about to stab them in the chest with a slung and completely empty rifle (no magazine, empty chamber). On the start signal the shooter drops the knife, enters the shooting area, loads the rifle and proceeds with the stage.

        1. avatar dook says:

That sounds like the beginning of a very strange novel or video game… Reading the article still gave no context. WHY would you have a knife and be poised about to stab someone, then drop it and go to your rifle? Seems like a scenario was half way stood up. I think Swarf hit it on the nose 😀

      2. avatar dook says:

Lol. This is the best explanation yet. 😀

        1. avatar Andrew says:

“You enter a 3-gun competition after a brief journey across a barren field.

To the West is a judge. To the East is a judge. To the North is the target area. There is nothing to the South.

You talk to a dummy, whom you proceed to stab. Roll D10 to determine chance of winning the stage.”

  4. avatar dook says:

Okay, what’s with the guy stabbing the dummy? And appears to be being timed at doing it. It has to be asked. 😀

  5. avatar Matt in FL says:

Man, there are some nice looking guns in those photos. Spike’s is right up the road from me, so I like that Magpul PRS with the Spike’s logo in the first photo. Also, great timing on the 5th photo, the Lancer shooter with the (good looking) caramel-colored gun. Got the snap just as the blast came out of the brake.

  6. avatar ErrantVenture11 says:

Call me paranoid, but the whole stab the dummy thing could feed into the whole “crazy gun nut” perception problem among the fence-sitters. Just seems poorly thought out to me. If the idea is simply to start the stage from a position of not being prepared to shoot, I think they could do better.

Then again, for those of us who don’t live with our panties in a twist, it is humorous… 🙂

  7. avatar Kevin1911 says:

I see there are a lot of people running fixed rifle stocks, may it be Magpuls or ACE. I also see a lot of variable scopes. There these the typical 3 Gun gear?

    1. avatar Anon in CT says:

Do folks like that ACE skeleton stock? Been thinking about getting one. Hate having a folding stock that can’t fold.

  8. avatar DJ9 says:

Great photos, Nick. When I go to full resolution, I can read the manufacturers’ name and info on the component parts. Saves me asking a few questions.

  9. avatar Jeh says:

5th pic down, I wanna put the poor rifle out of its misery.
