Snoop Lion To Sing Anti-Gun Agitprop at BET Awards 2013?

This Sunday, Snoop Lion a.k.a., Snoop Dogg, a.k.a., Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr. will perform at the Black Entertainment Television Awards (having been rejected from the White Entertainment Awards’ affirmative action program). No coincidence, then, that this interview promoting Snoopy’s No More Guns single just dropped. It’s the perfect BET PC pick. At :56 into this installment of Gangsta Rap Confidential, the Top Dogg attempts to charm The People of the Gun. Are you against guns? “No definitely I’m not against guns,” the Doggstar assures. “People who know how to use them and professionally understand the dynamics of guns and why you use them and to protect themselves and to protect others should always have that privilege.” Right. “But what I am against is violence with guns.” ‘Cause people who protect themselves with guns shoot love. Anyway, can’t wait to see the props . . .

    What’s a Snoop Lion?

    1. avatar AZRon says:

It’s a guy that makes millions of dollars selling “music” to twelve year olds and then complains about how racists are holding a brother back.

    2. avatar Kelly In GA says:

It’s a hypocritical lion talentless POS.

    3. avatar In Memphis says:

He had a visit from a Rastafarian preist who declaired or proclaimed or something, that he (Snoop Dog) is the reincarnation of Bob Marley. Somehow, that now makes him Snoop Lion.

  2. avatar rap sucks says:

    @ Ken

It’s like a snoop dogg, but wears a stupid rastacap

  3. avatar William Burke says:

What he said sounded pretty reasonable to me, except for the “privilege” bit.

    1. avatar Gtfoxy says:

      You nailed it.

Other than that, it sounds like everyone exercising their 2Aliberties. As all of us should consider our arms as a secondary use there-in.

  4. avatar M4T5 says:

What a bunch of Snoop dogg crap. He got rich promoting gun violence!

  5. avatar Pantera Vazquez says:

What happens when a career careens is-a performer turns to hypocrisy. He had no problems with guns and violence when he used the Snoop Dogg moniker, he was clocking dollars-we all remember “187 on an undercover cop” and numerous other lyrics celebrating guns and violence upon others. Last couple of albums have not been Platinum, soooooooo time to reinvent oneself, new “name” new game. Here’s the problem with the new game-how in hell does a gangsta rapper sell records by rapping against the gangster lifestyle? Who are you going to sell to? Maybe Bloomberg and MAIG will be happy to buy and distribute for the Lion……….

  6. avatar Danny McBee says:

I wonder how many young people have picked up a firearm and used it in the name of the gang culture this man has propagated?

You can’t make money selling items based around gang culture (the Crips mainly) then turn around and lecture people about gun violence.

This is every bit as bad as 50 Cent making his inane anti-gun rant. The man made millions rapping about violence and crime (selling that life style and image to young people), but then turned around and spoke out against violence when it was topical and popular to do so.

I remember in the early 2000s in Oklahoma we had a really big surge in shootings during convenience store robberies. Gang members calling themselves “G-Unit” (a term based on 50 Cent’s music) were robbing stores and executing the store clerks. Did 50 Cent speak out against the violence when people were doing it to propagate an image that he had created and encouraged? Of course not!

Snoop Lion (or whatever he’s calling himself these days) is no different.

    2. avatar Gyufygy says:

He smoked two joints in time of peace and two in time of war.

      (This thread needed better music.)

  9. avatar Ralph says:

I liked him better when he was Crippin’.
