“Scottish ministers want the power [from Britain’s central government] to cap the number of guns that can be owned by any one person after figures hit a record high,” dailyrecord.co.uk reports. Let’s try that again. “The number of licensed firearms in Scotland has risen by almost a fifth in the last 10 years but there are fewer licensed owners.” Translation: British gun control is driving down the number of legal gun owners but the number of guns the gun owners own is too onerous for the Scottish parliament. That excessive firearms ownership stat would be . . . three (71,860 certificated firearms held by 25,831 residents for an average of 2.78). “It concerns me that gun owners, even those with a legitimate need for such weapons, can accumulate multiple firearms and that there is no apparent limit to what can be held.” Apparently, Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill seeks to “better control the number of lethal weapons in society and thereby help to protect and reassure the Scottish public.” Don’t laugh. This could be you. [h/t Ike]

21 Responses to Scottish Ministers: Cap Gun Collections

  1. The title made me think that Scotland was having a buy back program for cap guns.
Who really needs more than 3 guns anyways? A shotgun for fowl and trap, a .270 for deer (maximum rifle caliber is .270 in the UK), and a .22 for varmint control is all any bagpiper needs.
Seriously though, this points out the flawed reasoning of some of the European gun grabbers. After a person goes through the extensive background check a person may own 1, 2, or even 3 guns, but 4 guns is too many. These gun owners cannot be trusted with such an arsenal because guns kill people.

  2. I never understood the point of a cap. Its not like you can hold more than 2 at once anyway. Who cares if I have 50-60 to whatever amount of guns I want.

  3. Don’t be deceived. Our nation of 300 million includes ~270 million who would gladly trade their 2nd amendment rights for free gub’mint cheese.

Some day we’ll have to decide whether we truly want to continue sharing a nation/legislature/borders/common currency with these lazy, inept fools.

  4. There are more guns in a single Alabama county than the entire Scot country. Nice. Criminals should consider relocating there.

    • Yeah, but European countries are tiny. The whole of Scotland is only 60% the area of Alabama, but has 400k more people. Clearly they’re worried about friction from all those elbows rubbing setting off some kind of gunpowder explosion.

  5. Mac .. As.. kill…, Kenny. That is his name. The name alone can kill you.
    “BAN HIM”.

  6. Ah, our old friend Kenny MacAskill. The same one who signed off on letting the Lockerbie bomber go free a few years ago. Dirtbag.

  7. Whatever happened to the manly culture that honored the formidable Highland Warriors of Scotland?

  8. Three???? REALLY???? Three firearms is too many????? Holy crap, as a decendant of the Stewart clan, I hang my head in shame. If twits like this are running Scotland now, I may have to deny my Scottish heritage, lest I be labeled a wuss like minister Kenny.

  9. ”It concerns me that gun owners, even those with a legitimate need for such weapons, can accumulate multiple firearms and that there is no apparent limit to what can be held.”

“What a parcel of rogues in a nation….”

Hey, when the next European conqueror decides he wants to invade Britain, the Brits can forget about American gun owners sending them our firearms for self defense. Mine will only be available for gold Swiss francs, at a highly inflated value. “Those who will give up essential liberty to secure a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” – Ben Franklin, wild-eyed extremist American revolutionary.

  10. Apparently, Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill seeks to “better control the number of lethal weapons in society and thereby help to protect and reassure the Scottish government. Fixed it.

  11. i remember reading a few years ago that scotland was the only country in the world that had more deaths by sword than by firearm…
