New from Spyderco: Chapparal EDC Knife

As you may have noticed, your humble correspondents in Las Vegas have had a hard time staying away from the knife purveyors. Much to RF’s chagrin. But he made the mistake of giving us access to the ‘publish’ button. So for all you knife lovers out there, Spyderco’s introducing a gorgeous new – if pricey – little EDC blade. . .

The Chapparal’s made of easy sharpening S30V steel and sports carbon fiber grips. This little lockback is a very pocketable 3.6 inches long when closed (blade length is 2.8″) and nicely jimped. The best part: Spyderco’s given it a deep carry clip so it will all but disappear from view when you carry it. But here’s the rub: this seksi little blade runs $179, MSRP. Certainly not a deal-killer, but not exactly an impulse purchase, either.

It’s been out for a while now, actually. Can be found online for about $100.

    Big Spydie fan.

Sweet! Thanks for showing a little blade love.

Thumb-holes are better for EDC knives, as opposed to thumb-studs, because the studs always find a way of abrading your pants or scratching your leather recliner. Holes are flatter, and don’t tear things up so badly. Too bad we couldn’t talk any T&E samples out of Gerber, Kershaw or Spyderco.

$179 is a lot for that knife.

If $179 is the SRP, then street price will be much less – somewhere in the $100 – $120 range.

Wish list for Spyderco: Bring back the Meerkat. Nifty little pocket knife, stout blade, intriguing “handle scale” lock. should have bought 2 when they were available, so I could have a spare. Prices of used ones on the net are WAY up there.
