11-Year-Old Girl Spooks 3 Burglars with a Pink Gun. Or Not.

Stories like this get my journalistic hackles up. The mainstream media is so quick to jump on the “brave little girl locked and loaded against home invaders” angle that they neglect to do anything remotely resembling reporting. Why was Miss Gutierrez home alone, again? How did one of the four (including the getaway driver) teenage invaders know the family, exactly? How did they know the Gutierrez’s had guns? How many guns were in the house? What does Mr. Gutierrez do for a living? Note: the young lady didn’t actually confront the invaders with her pink rifle; they’d already left when they saw her. Why didn’t she simply leave the home out of a window, rather than grab a gun?
