I was looking for information on the Smith&Wesson M&P 22 pistol one night and noticed some people really bashing the choice of equipping a safety on this weapon. I’m really glad it is on there. Our duty weapon, the M&P 40. We also have the holster with the release on it that you have to deftly push to retrieve the weapon from the holster. I really need to be able to practice with a weapon just like the one I carry. Recently while qualifying I was able to clear the holster, unsafe it and put my rounds accurately on the target before the deputies did with their Sigs that were standing on either side of me. Please just ignore the safety, and realize it is helping those of us that need the practice.
I wont to bye a 1911 45acp iam looking at Kimber/Para/and the rest i don’t know.What would you recommend ? I wont to start target shooting. But i wont’t to get a good pistol .

You can’t go wrong with a Kimber. I bit the bullet and bought two: The Raptor II with tritiam night sights, and the Ultra Carry II Crimson Trace. The Raptor has the best trigger I have ever pulled. It almost seems that you just have to think where you want the bullet to go and that’s where it hits. The laser takes the guess work out of any pistol as long as you have it zeroed properly and can see the dot. Bright sunlight over ten or fifteen feet, and you need the sights. But they are good too. At 30 feet, I can put them all in a three inch circle free hand with either gun, quick fire. The Raptor will have several shots center target. Buy a Kimber.
If you want to start shooting target, try starting with a .22 cal. It is a required caliber in Bullseye. It is also very inexpensive to shoot. The pistol of choice is ANY name brand lower with a Marvel conversion. You can contact Chambers Custom Pistol for a pistol you will NEVER out shoot AND it will hold it’s value much better than Kimber (which has lost a lot of quality recently).
Have you guys thought about doing a review on assembling an AR? I’ve been thinking about getting into 3 gun(based on an article I found on your site actually), and I saw that one of the guys built his own (Nick, I think). Anyway, just interested in how difficult it would be, and whether or not it would actually be cheaper than buying one.(factoring in shipping, tools, etc)

There in no Review for the Mauser 98 in your website
Posting a review of the mauser 98 would be an undertaking which could concievably consume a year or more of a persons life. Totally discounting the historical relevance which would pertain to each model and variation that could be discussed, taking into account the number of businesses and govermnents which have produced this rifle, not to mention the number of different editions, models, types, trims, chamberings, etc…. would be a herculean task. I feel confidant in saying that it is more or less the origin or at least the largest influence in modern sporting rifle design. At the gunsmithing school which I attended, an entire two semester course was dedicated solely to the origins, design, function, modification and repair of the mauser 98, not to mention the relevance and impact it has had on the sporting/military firearms field. Gunsmiths across the world have dedicated their lives to the study and perfection of this guns manufacture. Entire smithing organizations and guilds rotate around its production and modification. I’m really not trying to be patronizing, just trying to express the scale of which a comprehensive review of this particular gun would be. You may as well request a review of the 1911 (which would be a simpler task, in my opinion) If you wish to learn more than you probably ever wanted to know about this gun, look up “The Mauser M91 through M98 bolt actions: A shop manual” by Jerry Kuhnhausen. Its probably available at midway, brownells or some other reputable gunsmithing supplier. That said, if you are looking to pick up an ex service rifle, avoid anything which was produced during WWII, the workmanship was frequendly shoddy and rushed, the metallurgy severely questionable, and you could probably find a better version for the same money.

I just wanted to share my two cents on Norinco products. I know these are made in China but so is 3/4 of the stuff in Target and Walmart.
I have a Norinco SKS which is extremely well built, reliable and very accurate. $175
I have a Norinco 1911 A1 .45 that is built like a tank and is also very reliable and accurate. $349
I also have a Norinco CQB M4 which is also built like a tank and is very reliable and accurate. $675
I get so tired of reading blogs that dump on this product for reasons that i think just come down to the fact you cant buy them in the USA.
Its like those stupid bumper stickers that say “out of a job yet? quit buying foreign”

I bought a Pathfinder .22 revolver from Charter Arms. I got it late and didn’t give it a good look before going home. At home I noticed the barrel was canted to the left and the ejector rod kept sticking and wouldn’t return. I wrote to the company and got a return label. I shipped it back. It returned about 10 days later with a paper stating the barrel had been adjusted and a new ejector spring rod had been put in. I found the ejector problem appears to be fixed but the barrel now is canted of to the right. I am beginning to wonder if the fella/woman at the end of the assembly line owns a pair of glasses? I believe this will be my last Charter Arms Product. I work too hard for my money.
I also have a Charter. It’s the .357 Mag Pug. Though I didn’t have your problems, it did not hit to point of aim; more like 12 inches BELOW it! Since I am a former machinist, I milled down the front sight, and now it hits an inch high, where I want it. Seems that Charter doesn’t learn from its mistakes, since this particular problem has existed for several years.
I was recently given a Mosin-Nagant that was purchased at Big 5. This is my first one and probably my last. Long story short, I was chambering a round to ensure everything worked OK. When I chambered the round, the round discharged! Any advice on this problem which really concerns me.
Check the firing pin adjustment.
One can generally find a free Mosin manual online, or You Tube video that covers Mosin bolt disassembly and fireing pin settings. Since its apart clean and check for rust etc.

I’m a first time buyer, female, petite. Not a gun enthusiast by any means.
I need a gun for self-defense (I live in a tough neighborhood overseas where most of the people carry weapons)
So- this is the question. I need something small and accurate. There are kids around-if g-d forbid I need to shoot- I can’t have any mishaps. I’m a generally a pretty decent shot- so I need a gun that can follow through. We practiced on CZ but I found it heavy.
What gun to buy? (the choices available here are Glock, Smith and Wesson, Taurus, Beretta, a few others)

The CZ was probably an all steel gun. With that there is less recoil due to the extra weight. It’s a trade off, but I would try to find something with about a 4″ barrel and some means of reducing recoil. Check out budsgunshop.com and look at this item number. 62603
It’s an FN. Top quality, 4″ barrel, lightweight, extremely accurate, not too expensive, and is chambered in an easy to acquire round – 9mm, and it holds 17+1 rounds. Ultimately find a range and get a lot of practice with it. Good luck!
Also look at item number 52387. It’s a 4″ Ruger 9mm. Same deal, slightly less cost.
I am looking for a rifle review on the Benelli R1 semi auto rifle. Has anyone fired this rifle. I seek an accuracy report on this rifle. Are these rifles as accurate at 100 yds as published?? Are they as accurate as the Browning BAR. The caliber I wish to inquire about is the 300 WSM. Are they recommended?

In regards to the Mosin–Nagant ;you were given the rifle? Did your “friend” fire it before you? The bolts on these can be assembled incorrectly very easily and they are complicated. I suspect the firing fin was reinstalled by some Goober who didn’t pay attention after stripping and cleaning. Take it apart again, and do it right. I would also have a talk with the person who gave this to you.. If they were the owner they had to know it was messed up–could have killed you!
In regards to first time buyer SUE, you are better off buying a compact revolver which is far easier to learn and simpler to use than the autopistols. There are plenty of used police S&W trade-ins in .38 or 357 for $200-$350 on the web.
Will we see a review of any Knights Armament rifles? Maybe the SR-15 perhaps?
Where are all the Winchester reviews under rifles?. The word winchester and rifle go together… Any collecter or gun man has alteast 1 winchester or wants one in the future. How about the 70 or any lever gun, and new carbine . The new Win. 12 ga. is the fastest shot gun on earth. Lets hear some reviews…
Mr Carpenter, do you work for Winchester? I wouldn’t mind seeing a review on the model 70 or a lever action, because they are great guns. But I think you guys are doing a great job of reviewing all different kinds of guns from many different mfrs- carbines, coach guns, tactical shotguns, AKs, ARs, etc. Great website.

I’d love to see a review of the Winchester Super X Pump Defender 12-gauge shotgun. I’m thinking about buying one, but since it’s pretty new, the only “reviews” are from a person or two on a random forum or YouTube video. Nothing really super in-depth.
Apparently it’s got a really smooth “inertia-assisted slide-action” (“THE WORLD’S FASTEST PUMP ACTION”) which I like the idea of.
I liked the articles on the 1894c; would you consider doing a follow up article on the current version of the same gun?

Smith and Wesson 626?
I’m looking for a reliable semi auto pistol for self defense and target shooting that has the capability to swap parts to be able to fire either .380 or 9mm, depending on which is cheaper/available. I could almost swear I saw such a review on this site, but I cannot find it. Anybody know where it is? If I’m wrong, could we get such a review?

The pistol does not fire .380 though. You will be looking at 9mm, .40, 357sig, or .45ACP but this is one of the few that have the feature.
Would enjoy seeing some M&P to Glock comparisons.
I have handled a Glock and compared to my M&P full size .40 and .45 the Glock is just a brick and recoil in a M&P .45 is comparable to the 9mm Glock to me. I imagine the Glock recoil in .45 would be closer to the S&W 500
