Prominent Republican Donor: I Will Only Fund Pro-Gun Control GOP Candidates

Al Hoffman Jr. is a Palm Beach County Real Estate Developer and prominent (i.e., deep pocketed) GOP donor. Mr. Hoffman has issued a public ultimatum on the Florida Republican Party . . .

“For how many years now have we been doing this — having these experiences of terrorism, mass killings — and how many years has it been that nothing’s been done?”

“It’s the end of the road for me.”

Mr. Hoffman, also a former ambassador to Portugal, has donated millions to GOP candidates like Jeb Bush and former President George W. Bush. He’s also opened his wallet for Rep. Brian mast, and current Florida Governor Rick Scott. He served as chairman of Marco Rubio’s 2010 Senate candidacy,

Pare! Mr. Hoffman vowed . . .

“I will not write another check unless they all support a ban on assault weapons,”

“Enough is enough!”

Mr. Hoffman has gone so far as to threaten Gov. Scott’s 2018 campaign for Democrat incumbent and known space cadet, Bill Nelson’s seat in Congress. Nelson is a known enemy to the Second Amendment and Al Hoffman Jr. is now supporting Nelson through his temper tantrum.

The real question: will Republican donors follow Mr. Hoffman’s lead? Will a slowing of candidate cash lead Republican politicians to break their pledge to their voters and push anti Second Amendment legislation and policy?

It’s not like it hasn’t happened. Florida Republican Turncoats like Sen. Anitere Flores and Sen. Rene Garcia followed the money (and their political ambitions) straight into the arms of the gun grabbers.

Watch this space.

      Title should read:
“Prominent Republican Donor: I Will Only Fund Anti-Gun Control GOP Candidates

      1. avatar Missouri_Mule says:

How about ” will only fund Republican’ts who will ignore the Constitution and natural law”?

        1. avatar Ed says:

Fuck this guy..tell me he’s not the spitting image of Elmer Fudd!?!

    2. avatar Bloving says:

No, no… it should read, “I will only support bigots who will vote against civil rights.”
So. Will he now start sending his moolah to democrats since they are more reliably against civil rights?
      🤠

      1. avatar Gun Free School Zones are a crime against humanity says:

Let him fund the dems. They’ll tax and regulate him into poverty. Self correcting problem.

  2. avatar Extractor says:

He’s a real estate developer in florida. of course he has an interest in pacifying his potential customers.

But this is what happens when the constant pro-gun chatter gets stuck in the mud between clips and magazines and whether or not assault rifles exist.

This is why the rnc can’t have nice donors. But you gotta love a guy with the guts to have a bulldozer on his desk.

  3. avatar DoomGuy says:

Well, trump is selling us out on gun control.

He’s siding with Cornyn on the NICS anti-veteran anti-privacy bill.

Trump is officially a one-term president. Screw him.

    1. avatar C.S. says:

“Trump is officially a one-term president. Screw him.”

      In favor of who?

      1. avatar DoomGuy says:

Idk… I’d take Cruz or Rand Paul. It does is no good to hold onto someone bad in fear of someone worse. We still lose our rights regardless.

        1. avatar neiowa says:

I was a big Ted Cruz supporter. A good guy but he wouldn’t have gotten 1/4 as much done in the last year that Trump has accomplished. Including CONSERVATIVE stuff. Ted is too close to the swamp.

        2. avatar rudukai13 says:

Point of order: We can never “lose” our rights. Our rights can only ever be forfeited by partaking in illegal, criminal actions and being convicted of such in a court of law, or they can be violated by unconstitutional provisions. Rights cannot by their nature be taken by any third party. Just because a law says I’ll be punished for exercising it, doesn’t mean my natural right for self preservation by any means necessary magically disappeared. It just means an unjust system is enforcing unjust laws

        3. avatar binder says:

Ted is too close to the swamp? Wow, more like he has pissed off everone for the last few years. His problem is 1) his is too much of a religuos nut (religion is fine, but your are President first) 2) He is too ridged as will not compromise enough to get things done

        4. avatar Stereodude says:

Wait, so which of your beliefs and principles would you like Ted to compromise on? Isn’t the (primarily unfounded) complaint that Trump has compromised too much?

        5. avatar FB says:

I like Ted Cruz and Rand Paul, however, Ted Cruz or any candidate like him will never win the presidency in 2020. Rand Paul means well but comes across too mainstream and weak. It was Trump’s unorthodox approach that won the presidency. Trump has set a new bar for the types of candidates that have a chance to run in 2020.
I think we should be more concerned what Liberal candidates might run like Oprah Winfrey.

        6. avatar Hank says:

Cruz or Paul isn’t walking through that door.

So he’s going to fund losers (of elections) by going democrat-lite… Whatever floats his boat.

    1. avatar Hannibal says:

Yeah somehow I don’t think that primarying the GOP right now from the LEFT on guns isn’t going to work out. He’s hoping that some people already in office will sell out their constituents to get more bribes ERRR campaign donations from him. And it might work.

    RHINO

    1. avatar Mark says:

You mean RINO. A rhino is a lovely animal. A RINO, not so much.

    2. avatar Calvin says:

Maybe you’re the RHINO, you just didn’t get the memo. Republican hasn’t had much to do with civil rights for a long time*. Don’t let it bother you. You’ll feel a lot better when you shrug off a label that doesn’t even fit.

*I could make a list if you need.

So another rich white man wants everyone else to be disarmed, except for his private arm security detail, and the private armed security detail of his rich white friend’s.

I’m sure he has lots of rich white democrat friends who have only supported anti gun civil rights politicians.

Nothing has changed as far as the history of gun control in America.

  15. avatar Million says:

Don’t let the door hit you in the arse.

  16. avatar Michael in AK says:

Another donor who gave us the likes of Obama…

  17. avatar strych9 says:

I don’t really imagine that this matters much. In the big scheme of things this guy hasn’t give that much money per cycle and right now the GOP is flush with cash while the DNC is broke.

On top of that generic polling, while admittedly not the best in the world, does not suggest that a “blue wave” is coming. In fact the best polls (historically) among the generics have a lot of Democrats really, really scared. To the point that they’re talking about a coup against Pelosi.

Still more on top of that Trump’s poll numbers and his popularity are rising.

Like a lot of midterms this one is going to be fought on accomplishments (real or perceived) and the general feeling of the public about how things are going. It’s not going to be fought over bump stocks and AR-15’s. If the economy keeps going that extra cash people have in their pockets from the tax cuts is probably going to keep R’s in control. If the economy takes a serious turn then the D’s will have a field day.

No matter what happens, in the big scheme of things, this guy is small potatoes.

  18. avatar Eli2016 says:

Uh. One more time. It is an election year. Things are different this time. The “youth” movement is strong. They are being backed by corporate entities. MSM is working full steam with their misinformation and lies. I’d stock up now. You guys keep arguing amongst yourselves. You dont get whats happening out there. The pro gun camp is gonna lose. BIG TIME.

    1. avatar Gun Free School Zones are a crime against humanity says:

The young are in our camp. Video games and action movies and the youngs natural tendency to not follow their parents is working for us.

The gop will retain an edge after mid terms and Trump will get a second term if he so wishes. If he continues packing lower courts with conservative justices and has a chance at putting 1 or 2 more on the scotus America will be changed, in a good way, for at least the next 100 years.

Constitutional carry is just around the corner.

Ya well thinking he won’t live much longer since he’s now 80, May be wishful .

He’d have another 15 or 20 years in my family, plus he’s got better Doctors …..

  23. avatar Jim Bullock says:

So, a guy who disagrees with the people in the party will quit funding people who also disagree with their constituents, with no distinctive platform, and no spine, who can’t get elected.

He’ll have less pull in D-world: they have more of this kind of donor money. Not sure it’s much of a loss for the rest of us.

  24. avatar BierceAmbrose says:

Money-guy can’t buy the policies he wants, so he’s keeping his money. It’s almost like having *votes* matter limits the impact of money on what government does.

That’s OK. I’m sure he’ll find other people willing to be bought.

  25. avatar rt66paul says:

This is the GOP speaking. Most only want guns for those like themselves. These are the guys that set gun control in motion and supported it through out the 60s to present. These guys so not support Trump at all. Vote Libertarian for freedom.

The middle class was built from true craftsmen who worked hard, most in trade unions that actually trained their apprentices to be journeymen workers. This was the base of the Democrat party. The party split into special interests and politicans on both side pander to their desires. The GOP is against these craftsmen, opened up China and imported cheap goods as well as exporting jobs. We need to buy American, build American and require American shipping for our goods.

  26. avatar rdsii64 says:

    I have thing to say:
If a one citizen can influence the party line by simply opening or closing his/her check book, That is a much bigger problem than the agenda they want to push.

  31. avatar AFGus says:

That’s great Mr. Hoffman. Throwing money at losers. Just give it to me. I’ve got my eye on some great firearms that are currently out of my price range.

  32. avatar Cuteandfuzzybunnies says:

Uber cuck RINO farmer says he won’t find anybody who’s it anti gun. So now at least we will get RINOs admitting they are anti gun while campaigning instead of screwing us once elected.

  33. avatar Adam says:

People are kidding themselves if they think the Republican party is pro gun. That is like saying the Democratic party is pro African American. No, in reality, both parties are pro “leading people along with a carrot while never actually going through on their promises.”

Republicans have been in power all year and not one pro-gun bill has made it through for Trump’s signature. Where is national concealed carry? Where is legalized suppressors? Where is a federal preemption law which makes all the statewide bans on guns/magazines illegal?

Frankly, it’s not going to happen. The Republicans who claimed for years to be small government and pro gun have increased our debt by another trillion dollars and given us zero respite to the constant onslaught of anti-gun activists at both the federal and state level.

    1. avatar Tim says:

Well put Adam. One of the few that actually sees the big picture.
