Blue Force Gear Quote of the Day: Chicago’s Top Cop Doesn’t Blame Guns for Homicides

“[Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie] Johnson called this year’s homicide totals ‘unacceptable,’ blaming what he called ‘a small subsection of citizens’ for the violence . . . ‘The police are doing their job,’ Johnson told reporters. ‘What we need help in is holding these repeat gun offenders accountable for this gun violence, and until we do that, we’re going to continue to see the cycle of violence.'” – Chicago tops 700 homicides — with a month to go in violent 2016 [via chicagotribune.com]

Somebody finally wakes up and smells the coffee… I wonder if Rahn is listening.
His statement underscores the obvious – to date they have NOT been holding them accountable. The operative word here being “holding”.

    1. avatar larry mcneal says:

Holding is the key. The County Board President and Sheriff Dart are trying to keep the jail empty to the point of tearing down three divisions of county jail. They want to make sure that they will never have to hold inmates again under the theory that it costs too much to house them. Until the residents of the County wake up and realize that the County leaders value money over lives it will keep happening.

        Ropes are more cost effective

        1. avatar LarryinTX says:

          And, they’re recyclable!

    2. avatar Rad Man says:

But it’s a Sanctuary City! Surely that counts for something.

      1. avatar Geoff PR says:

“But it’s a Sanctuary City! Surely that counts for something.”

Yeah, it’s gonna get real interesting when the ‘Sanctuary Cities’ find out the spigot of federal money suddenly disappears on them.

All that big talk as how they “Will always be a Sanctuary City” and how they “will never cooperate” with immigration authorities.

They are about to get a rude surprise when they discover there’s a new sheriff in town.

A new sheriff who will “grab them by the p***y”…

        *snicker*

In other news, applicants for the newly opened position of Chicago Police Superintendent may apply at…

    1. avatar Red in CO says:

      Right?

  3. avatar Jay in Florida says:

At last someone calling for some Criminal Control. Instead of blaming guns for crimes.
    What a refreshingly original idea.

  4. avatar Jp says:

Sadly I think no one of consequence is correct. That position will need filling shortly cause you can’t have rahm’s voting base locked up.
As much as I appreciate what superintendent Johnson says…. nothing will change in chiraq.

  5. avatar neiowa says:

WIth the demtard mass abortion industry of the last 30years (and the murder rate) it is rather surprising that Chicago isn’t running out of thugs. I suppose that is why the dems are so enthusiastic about importing Mexicans/etc.

  6. avatar Gov. William J Le Petomane says:

He’s not going to be Chicago’s top cop for long with that attitude.

  7. avatar former water walker says:

I don’t disagree materially with Johnson. Even Garry “street light” McCarthy has been trotted out in the last few daze…I have a solution too. 10year minimum for any gun crime, no juvenile carveouts, chaingangs and mostly arming GOOD people. Like the Western Ave. story the other day. Embrace the NRA and Trump. Sadly nothing will happen…

    1. avatar Icabod says:

When you look. At the arrests for gun crimes/ procession you find very few convictions. Many cases are simply dropped as judges set a high bar for evidence and lawyers are good at finding fault. Those that do get convicted receive light sentences. Add in time off for good behavior and early release due to overcrowding, they are quickly back on the streets.

What doesn’t get mentioned is that there are 65,000 gang members organized in some 500 gangs. As each gang can sell $10K in drugs each day, the “gang problem” is a potent voting block.

    2. avatar Burley says:

Can we stop calling it “gun crime” please. It’s just crime. Pure and simple. Adding a modifier to something doesn’t make it more or less criminal. Something that is already illegal doesn’t become more illegal because of adverbs and adjectives. Neither can something that isn’t already illegal suddenly become a crime due to a grammatical error.
It’s just plain crime, committed by plain old criminals.

      1. avatar LarryinTX says:

I agree. I am also concerned that terms like “gun crime” focus *more* on the gun than any crime. If we are not certain we actually have a crime in the first place, we could end up with a 10-year prison sentence for a prohibited person sleeping in a house where there is a gun. Robbing a bank with a gun, fine. But simple possession of an inanimate object, no. Just no.

  8. avatar Daily Beatings says:

How can the police be doing their job when 80% of the suspects are not arrested? Homicides are now up to 742 according to http://heyjackass.com/ for the year.

    1. avatar Tile floor says:

When nobody wants to talk, it makes solving them extremely difficult

      1. avatar Cliff H says:

When nobody DARES to talk. Every time a witness comes forward the homicide count goes up by one.

        1. avatar LarryinTX says:

If that is actually the case, then it will never get better until the people (victims) of the neighborhood gun up and flat kill the bangers until normal law and order can be successful again. Personally, I would lean toward eliminating the parents and siblings as well. If we enforce silence in the face of such mindless violence, we have a growing cancer which must be excised before anything will improve.

  9. avatar Mad Max says:

Because of the gang-bangers ties to the local politicians and judges via bribes and campaign contributions, I think the only way to get Chicago under control is through Federal Government intervention.

Make gang banging a Federal crime, change the venue (to another major city) of all gang-banger trials, and send in a company like Blackwater to assist Eddie Johnson.

    1. avatar Burley says:

Oh, YEAH! More laws, that’s what we need! Laws fix everything! Apparently, what with the Chicago Police Chief admitting that they AREN’T currently enforcing it. /sarc off

Seriously, do you really think making something MOAR ILLEGALER will solve the problem? End drug prohibition if you want to solve the problem. Drug territory and easy money for those with the will to protect it is at the very root of the Chicago violence problem. That and the city administration continually robbing the average citizens of their right to self-defense. Restoration of Liberty is what is needed here, not more ridiculous, expensive, violent, unenforceable, liberty-squelching regulation.

    2. avatar Daily Beatings says:

That was already tried and done:

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Exile

Of course the left screamed the program was “racist”, but it was effective in reducing homicides and armed robberies.

  10. avatar Sam I Am says:

FAKE NEWS! FAKE NEWS! FAKE NEWS!

    Gotta be.

    Right?

  11. avatar Joe R. says:

We blame SChitcago for its own problems, and we blame the evil POS (D) for SChitcago. They are nothing but a problem to us, and we’re extremely tired of the “we’re f’d up, we need to fix you” line of crap we get from gun-grabbers who hold SChitcago out as a problem that guns or gun-owners have or are creating.

We hope you succumb to your wounds SChitcago, then we can pull-out and gnuke your site from orbit and call it done.

    1. avatar LarryinTX says:

It’s the only way to be sure!

Sorry. Somebody had to do it.

  12. avatar W says:

The police have known this for some time. Saying it and being quoted is laudable.

The Strategic Subject list contains about 1400 people. Chicago, as a whole, is about 2.7 million, depending upon how boundaries are drawn. People on the SSL make up about 70 to 80 percent of the murderers and murderees.

So, let’s work to disarm the other 2.698+ million.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/24/us/armed-with-data-chicago-police-try-to-predict-who-may-shoot-or-be-shot.html?_r=0

  13. avatar BDub says:

“‘What we need help in is holding these repeat gun offenders accountable for this gun violence, and until we do that, we’re going to continue to see the cycle of violence.'”

Oh! so you’ve caught them all and just need help with some harsh sentencing, is that it?
