SIG SAUER P229 Legion: First Prize for New TTAG Gun Review Content Contest

SIG SAUER P229 Legion (courtesy thetruthaboutguns.com)

It’s been a hell of a ride recently. The Orlando massacre, two high-profile police-involved shootings, and the Dallas racist police attack. While the mainstream media has gone into full civilian disarmament mode the TTAG team has been reporting facts and fisking the torrent of anti-gun agitprop. As a result, we’ve been a bit “news heavy” hereabouts.

Have no fear: our gun writers are working on non-current events-related firearms content. While Nick’s up to his eyeballs in code — crafting on our commercially crucial customized email system — Jon Wayne Taylor, Jeremy S., myself, Joe Grine, Tyler, Dan, Sara and other freelancers are trying to pick-up the slack.

Meanwhile, we know that celebrating America’s gun culture is critical to defending our natural, civil and Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms. So, to increase actual gun stuff, we’re asking you, our Armed Intelligentsia, to contribute a gun review to the cause.

The review deemed best by our Managing Editor will receive one of the best handguns we’ve ever reviewed: RF’s personal, lightly-fired SIG SAUER P229 Legion. The very gun pictured above. But wait, there’s more! The second place entrant will receive $250 cash money. Third gets a box-fresh Benjamin ($100). Contest deadline: August 1.

A little homework first!

Click here to make sure TTAG hasn’t already reviewed the firearm you’d like to review. (Feel free to review an “old” gun.) Then click here for our gun review guidelines. In general, follow the format of any existing review. Don’t forget specs and star ratings! Humor and the occasional firearms-related digressions are a feature, not a bug.

Write it up, take great pics, send the text in the body of an email with jpegs attached to thetruthaboutguns@gmail.com. Put the words “GUN REVIEW” and the model reviewed in the subject bar, all caps. Like this: GUN REVIEW SIG SAUER P229 LEGION. Only not that one.

Bonus! TTAG’s looking to take on another gun reviewer. The pay sucks but the reviewer  gets testing and evaluation models — new guns! — to review. Not to mention the occasional junket and gear. We’ll choose one or maybe even two new writers based on the submissions. Good luck! And thanks for helping us tell the truth about guns.

Maybe I just missed it in the article, but when is the submission deadline?

    1. avatar Robert Farago says:

      D’oh! August 1. Text amended.

  2. avatar younggun21 says:

Well, now I need to go pick up a gun that TTAG hasn’t reviewed…

  3. avatar me says:

I’d love to be a gun reviewer, i like to shoot, a lot! New guns to try out would be awesome any day of the week!

  4. avatar preston says:

good god Robert that thing is beautiful. how can you part with it?

    1. avatar Robert Farago says:

      Needs must.

  5. avatar jwm says:

CA resident. I’m legally allowed to review a flintlock musket. And only if I don’t show pictures and say nothing nice about the gun.

In my last review I blame the Brown Bess musket for the extinction of the dinosaurs and climate change. Al Gore is flying me to Stockholm on his private jet for that bit of scientific genius.

    1. avatar Robert Farago says:

      California-compliant alternative available.

      1. avatar peirsonb says:

Translation: Chuck Norris and a BB gun.

        1. avatar John L. says:

But only equipped with a “beard button.”

    2. avatar Brian Clark says:

Funny I had the ability to shoot the Brown Bess at Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia. They built a new range for muskets in March of 2016. If you ever visit I suggest you sign up for the experience.

      1. avatar Tile floor says:

Where is it? Is there a website or something? Sounds awesome

  6. avatar formerwaterwalker says:

Nice gat RF. Nothing I got is reviewable 🙁

    1. avatar Ing says:

Same here. I don’t own or have access to anything that hasn’t already been reviewed. And I don’t have the financial resources to acquire anything, either. Dammit.

  7. avatar Renner says:

I’ve been holding out on my gun reviews for an appropriate prize. Now I have no excuses so I better make time to finish a couple.

  8. avatar Jeff the Griz says:

Hmmmmm. Time to type up an article I’ve been saving a long time.

  9. avatar Hoplopfheil says:

This is my frikkin’ dream job! Or side job slash hobby as the case may be.

    Expect an article from me.

    1. avatar Hoplopfheil says:

And the deed is done. Godspeed, little review!

  10. avatar Mike says:

I like the FNP-40. It is good and shoots good bullets. The end.

  11. avatar notalima says:

    /Opens safe

/gives stern eye to the hooligan firearms that are eyeing a quick escape

    /hmmmmm

  12. avatar strych9 says:

What about different generations or models of guns you’ve reviewed like a first gen 941 Jericho “Baby Eagle” along with a comparison or a Star BM as opposed to [the big] Star B? (A little Hemingway for you there.)

  13. avatar Geoff PR says:

Now I’m kicking myself in the a$$ double for not reading my email for two weeks and blowing the chance to review the Cabot for TTAG.

That would have made a damn fine entry for that drop-dead gorgeous Sig Legion.

    Yeah. I am dumbass…

  14. avatar Chrispy says:

I think I have one… Does the firearm have to be in original configuration or can it just be a neat old gun?

  15. avatar Gene H says:

Too soon for an Honor Guard review?

  16. avatar ActionPhysicalMan says:

If I had an interesting gun that hadn’t already been reviewed, could turn a phrase, had an eye for detail, went shooting more and had some motivation, I’d do this.

    1. avatar jwm says:

      Damn, you’re almost there.

  17. avatar Tom in Georgia says:

I don’t suppose side-by-side comparisons are fair game, by chance?

    Tom

  18. avatar DoctorHog says:

I’d really like to review that SIG so if you’ll just go ahead and send it to me I promise to write a really good review.

  19. avatar Alex W. says:

Can I review a .22lr conversion kit for a handgun?

  20. avatar TruthTellers says:

Is it required to shoot the gun before it’s reviewed?

    1. avatar Cameron B says:

      Accuracy testing is suggested

  21. avatar Dyspeptic Gunsmith says:

    Meh.

    1. avatar Steve in MA (now RI) says:

I’m sure you can do an awesome review of a Colt Pocket Hammer in .38 ACP, or something equally cool.

  22. avatar Joe R. says:

    Is anyone precluded from submitting?

    1. avatar Joe R. says:

      Ah, Mr. Farago, sir?

  23. avatar madtrader says:

What qualifies a gun for review? That it exists? That it is or was a production model at one time? Or is it open to anything, say something built to spec? Or limited runs long since gone?

    1. avatar Robert Farago says:

Anything as long as it’s a gun and we haven’t reviewed it already.

      1. avatar Alex W. says:

So, then we’re good for a .22 pistol conversion kit review, so long as you have not already reviewed it?

  24. avatar Canon says:

Now that I live in NY I need about 2 months notice before “they” allow me to buy a firearm that isn’t already on the reviewed list. Unless I go behind the office building I work in and buy one on the street for $200 tomorrow.

  25. avatar Jay says:

The sig p250 fullsize and compact has been reviewed can i submit one on the subcompact?
