First place: JT’s SMLE No. 1 Mk. III

As always, thanks to everyone who entered our Show Us Your Favorite Round contest. There were many varied and inspiring entries, but in the end, someone had to put his foot down and choose the best, and that foot is me.

Congrats to all the winners.

  1. Congrats to all. I don’t have a decent camera or camera phone to take solid picks, maybe next contest!

    • Nothing like “Rule .303”. It may not be the most accurate rifle, theoretically, but it delivers the goods when quick snap shooting is needed. I would like to see a Mauser or Springfield do 25+ rounds in a mad-minute. Easy with a SMLE.

The .303 may not be the most powerful (10% below .308Win, which is 10% below .30-06 or 8mm) but it works well enough to round holes in square heads.

      • I’ve always been a fan of the L-E. Had a number over the years including 7.62 Ishapore’s. My favorite was the No. 4. That’s a SHTF rifle if ever there was one.

      • I just bought a numbers matching SMLE dated to 1918 and the fact that the action is that buttery smooth after nearly 100 years is a testament to that rifle.

  2. The Brits 303 Spitzer was nowhere near as versatile as the 30.06 but I won’t be a sore loser and will concede the fight for another day . The shorter actions seem to always rule the day .
