Blue Force Gear Quote of the Day – Obama: No Gun Sales for Americans on the Government’s Secret No-Fly List

“We’ve got people who we know have been on ISIL websites living here in the United States, U.S. citizens. And we’re allowed to put them on the no-fly list when it comes to airlines, but because of the National Rifle Association I cannot prohibit them from buying a gun.”

You’re a lawyer. It’s because the bill had no provision for due process. An identical bill exists with the due process included. Where it is now who knows. Name calling is useless. Both sides do it.
In the end we don’t get satisfaction while the sides posture behind their positions. “The NRA wants terrorists to have access to guns.” Who actually believes that? Are we the people so stupid that we miss the real point here? Is it that the right is correct that the left has other agenda? Who would disagree with the same bill with due process? Politicians that’s who. They’d have nothing to run a campaign on. No, issues.

  2. avatar NYC2AZ says:

“We’ve got people who we know have been on ISIL websites living here in the United States, U.S. citizens. And we’re allowed to put them on the no-fly list when it comes to airlines, but because of the National Rifle Association Constitution I cannot prohibit them from buying a gun.”

Fixed that for you Mr. “Constitutional Scholar.”

    1. avatar Chadwick P. says:

We both know the only thing this scholar studied was rug burns on his knees, rules for radicals, and used car sales tactics. If if if if I I I , a bunch of okie doke… a true scholar.

      1. avatar BigDaveinVT says:

He and Hillary; two law school grads who are politicians because they are too inept to practice law.

        1. avatar Jim Bullock says:

          ^^^This^^^

Does anybody else get the sense that we’re living in The Devil’s Advocate-world.

Into “the law” because it puts them into everything?

    2. avatar Chip Bennett says:

      Exactly.

(And Obama was never a “constitutional scholar”. He was a pissant lecturer.)

    3. avatar W says:

      Agreed.

But demagoguery is more politically expedient. So, the Alinsky follower chooses that route.

“Give me the power to take people’s constitutionally guaranteed rights without due process. Shame on the NRA for standing in the way.”

    4. avatar A Hill says:

I find it ironic that the so called “constitutional scholar” is using the no fly list (which is a perfect example of how the government is already in violation of the Constitution) as a reason to continue and increase gov overreach.

      What Obama is really saying is (translated from politician used car salesman speak);
“See we violated due process and freedom of movement and nobody cared then! Try to do that to guns and now everybody says you’ve gone too far!”

      1. avatar Henry says:

“And we’re allowed to put them on the no-fly list when it comes to airlines…”

That’s the problem right there. Correct that unconstitutional tyranny, and the rest is perfectly consistent.

  3. avatar Pascal says:

Wow! Is that all it takes to get on the no fly list? Reading something not approved by the government is enough to get you on the no fly list? No wonder they need to keep that list secret, they have such thin and stupid reasons to place people on it.

So, what is next? Looking at what books we buy on Amazon? Maybe all the readers of this site?

Abolish the 1st Amendment and prosecute for thought crime?

Drunk on technology, the government can get closer to Orwellian rule.

    1. avatar Bfitts says:

I am going to search for an ISIS website just to get on a secret list… cause murcia

      1. avatar JasonM says:

ISIS Rick-rolling: Get 20% of the country on the no-fly list.

    2. avatar Getfreight says:

My thought exactly. Because I went to a websitethey believe I am no longer eligible to excercise my rights? That is a frightening thought. What if TTAG became one of those restricted websites. Or go full bore. Facebook is the most visited website on the internet. if you have ever visited facebook.com you have forfeited all your rights and are no longer considered a human being.

      1. avatar Martin B says:

If you are a Facebook member, you are a passive slave, and your every keystroke is being recorded and monetized. Mark Zuckerberg knows more about you than your own family, and he will sell every marketable aspect of your life to whoever will pay him the most. As the Chinese are hungry for your data and your dollars, that may be where all your info is going. Facebook is one of the greediest data hogs on your cell phone or tablet, and it slows down your PC. The digital future belongs to the most powerful companies. It is now close to time that some digital anti trust laws were imposed similar to how Roosevelt (Teddie) thwarted the big banks in his day. I fact those are needed again too.

  4. avatar CRF says:

Due Process: The “progressives” greatest enemy.

  5. avatar Sixpack70 says:

Charge them for a crime or shut up.

    1. avatar Swarf says:

      Same with Guantanamo.

      1. avatar Pwrserge says:

Not quite. GITMO is a detention center for illegal combatants. They don’t need to be charged with a crime, simply bei captured in the process of being an illegal combatant is crime enough. As with spies, illegal combatants are subject to summary execution under the laws and customs of war.

        1. avatar MamaLiberty says:

Lots of problems with that. Who defines “crime?” By what authority? Who benefits? Inconvenient questions…

        2. avatar Anonymous says:

          And what about “natural rights?”

        3. avatar Wilson says:

          @MamaLiberty (love that name btw):

There are numerous treaties, conventions and “laws of war” that define what is and what is not a crime on the battlefield.

Soldiers are protected under what is commonly called the Geneva Convention, but which is actually a series of conventions.

The rules state that in order to be protected a soldier must meet certain criteria which are: Openly carrying arms, having a unit insignia that is visible from a distance, wearing a uniform, having a command structure for their unit where higher ranking people are responsible for the lower ranking folks and generally comporting themselves in a manner consistent with the laws and customs of war.

While it can be argued that a group like ISIS meets 4/5ths of this requirement they do not, as a matter of course, comport themselves in a manner consistent with the laws and customs of war. They are quite happy to do all sorts of seriously f&^ked up things and gleefully post videos of their sadism online.

AQ and the Haqqani network were also quite content to break the laws of war, had no uniforms and did not always openly carry their arms.

As such these people have forfeited most of their rights and in turn they can be subject to a “drum top” court martial and shot immediately afterwards. If anything Gitmo is affording these people much more than they are actually due which is nothing more than a short proceeding followed a firing squad or the gallows.

  6. avatar don curton says:

So restrictions on constitutional rights without proof of criminal activity, a secret govt list with no public accountability, and no chance to appeal the decision once you’re on that list. For looking at a website.

Yup, that’s just like buying a car.

  7. avatar Greg says:

Robbing a man of his civil rights without affording him due process is nothing more than tyranny. But, then again, Obama is a would be tyrant so it’s no surprise that he’d stoop to this kind of demagoguery.

  8. avatar ACP_arms says:

What a shame, you can’t stop someone on the no fly list from buying a gun without charging them of a crime and prosecuting them. Such a shame.

  9. avatar TyrannyOfEvilMen says:

Bad news: Your new Democratic Party is full of tyrants.

Worst news: Your new Republican Party is full of cowards.

    1. avatar Mr. 308 says:

Your new Republican Party is full of Democrats.

      FTFY

      1. avatar TyrannyOfEvilMen says:

Uh-huh. Go look at the party affiliations of the sponsors of gun control legislation across the country. So while the Republicans are pathetic, the Democrats are in fact worse.

98% of sponsors of gun control legislation have a D after their name. Because Democrats today are tyrants.

And 98% of Republicans say nothing. Because Republicans today are cowards.

        1. avatar Mr. 308 says:

They play good cop/bad cop that’s all.

        2. avatar Tom says:

The more I look at the parties these days the fewer differences I see in them.

As near as I can tell neither side cares about what is right or good for the country, just two sides who only want to beat each other.

Generally speaking, no matter what issue comes up they simply take opposing sides with no thought or understanding of the topic and then bicker like children to get their way.

  10. avatar FormerWaterWalker says:

Bury Soetoro would like to add unapproved (by HIM) seditious material like TTAG,American Rifleman or the BIBLE too. Funny but Bury was brought up a muslim/commie hisself…

  11. avatar jwm says:

We all must be on double secret probation.

  12. avatar Gov. William J Le Petomane says:

If you’re too dangerous to be allowed on a commercial airliner you’re too dangerous to be sold a gun. You’re also to dangerous to attend a sporting event or be allowed in a movie theater. Too dangerous to drive a car and way too dangerous to take the bus or train. In fact I’d say your too dangerous to walk the streets. So why don’t we round these people up and throw them in Guantanamo? Oh yea, due process and the fact that there’s not a shred of evidence that any of these people are even dangerous.

  13. avatar Indiana Tom says:

“We’ve got people who we know have been on ISIL websites living here in the United States, U.S. citizens. And we’re allowed to put them on the no-fly list when it comes to airlines, but because of the National Rifle Association I cannot prohibit them from buying a gun.”
Sooo… if I read a dumb article on the the Inspire website, I am on the No-Fly List?
I mean it really would be nice to know how the Muzrats are planning on killing me off.
I guess it must be a Thought Crime.
So why is the Caliphate In Chief not on the No Fly List?

    1. avatar Martin B says:

He has his own plane (Air Force One) so commercial rules don’t apply to him. Perhaps he should accept an invitation to visit Pakistan, so the Taliban can get a closer look at him? I thought he did his best to be humbly persuasive in his own mind during this “debate”, but his progressive indoctrination prevented him from hearing how foolish he sounded.

  14. avatar JohnF says:

As much as I hate ISIL, fans of that organization have a 1A right to be on their websites as long as they aren’t actually conspiring to take some illegal action. They should not lose any of their rights without probable cause and a following due process. Anti-gunners would probably like people on this site denied their gun rights without due process.

  15. avatar Rusty Chains says:

I notice he hasn’t suggested we use the secret no fly list to prohibit voting by terrorists. Don’t we deserve to be protected from terrorists that vote? Isn’t our electoral process deserving of protection? Better yet since those people are clearly so dangerous we should just go ahead and deport them, right?

Quick, someone add Hillary and Pocahontas to the no fly list!

    1. avatar Rusty Chains says:

Never forger that even Teddy Kennedy with all his connections was never able to get his name removed from the “no fly list.”

      1. avatar 16V says:

Teddy has only ever demonstrated that he needs to be on a ‘no-drive’ list.

Remember kids, if Teddy had driven a Volkswagen, he’d have been President.

        1. avatar FedUp says:

For those too young to get 16v’s National Lampoon reference:

        2. avatar Martin B says:

My favorite magazine when a teenager. Especially the special editions with the girl with huge hooters. P.J. O’rourke’s article on the fastest car you can drive (a rental). A bit more subversive than Mad magazine, but appallingly funny. Extremely non PC. Wouldn’t happen today.

        3. avatar Geoff PR says:

“P.J. O’rourke’s article on the fastest car you can drive (a rental).”

          Close, but no hand-rolled cigar:

“Some people say a front-engine car handles best. Some people say a rear-engine car handles best. I say a rented car handles best.”

From his classic ‘How to Drive Fast on Drugs While Getting Your Wing-Wang Squeezed and Not Spill Your Drink’

          http://www.heretical.com/miscella/reptile.html

  16. avatar Scott says:

    Wow.

My firearms are all safety conscious, they wear slings or are in holsters on belts, or locked In a safe. Safeties are used and fingers are kept away from triggers. All the correct ammunition is used. And they never go out on their own without permission and escort. Safe as safe can be.

I did not do a background check to purchase any car. I have a friend who collects, rebuilds classic cars and has no drivers license. He has 14 acres and 1/2 mile track. Buys rebuilds drives test-drives and sells. No laws broken.

Mr. Obama never directly answered the man’s questions, admitted to his failure to follow constitutional law, and lies about his intensions as to the 2nd amendment.

    Evil and Treasonous. He is.

  17. avatar I1ULUZ says:

Fahrenheit 451 comes true, what temperature does a website burn at? God forbid if anyone wants to learn about how batcrap crazy those people are and Google them then read what insane info the put out. Or does Uncle Sam want us just to take his word for it, isn’t that how we got into Iraq in the first place? We’re the government, we know what’s best, trust us Iraq has to fall. The breeding ground where they ISIS was born. Hi NoSuchAgency, how’s your blue cube doing?

    1. avatar Pascal says:

I believe that is how we got to Obamacare — pass the bill and THEN we will tell you what is in the bill. How did that work out? Some 60% of it still to this day is not complete.

  18. avatar Priest of the center mass says:

Its been a very long time since i felt any pride for the White House…?

    1. avatar Cliff H says:

Putin has expressed the same sentiment.

  19. avatar Andrew Lias says:

I thought we were supposed to be the people doing the fear mongering. That’s what they keep saying anyways.

  20. avatar Chip in Florida says:

“…And we’re allowed to put them on the no-fly list when it comes to airlines, but because of the National Rifle Association I cannot prohibit them from buying a gun.”

See, this is backwards…. the argument should not be framed as ‘we already restrict this so why not that too.’ The argument should be framed in reverse as “why are we accepting that restriction at all.”

The No-Fly list is a horrible violation of a whole bunch of our rights so why are we allowing ‘them’ to use it as the basis for comparison to gun rights? Why aren’t we pushing back against the No-Fly list much harder than we are now? They are using it as one of the small steps to end our rights, we need to push back.

  21. avatar Piltdown Man says:

Let me get this straight: by violating the fourth amendment, someone is found to be exercising their first amendment rights, then by violating the fifth amendment, he wants to violate your second amendment rights. Because terrorism. Got it.

  22. avatar VF 1777 says:

“because of the NRA”, ” I ” cannot prohibit them from buying a gun…

    – Because after all, HE is King. How can we deny HIM HIS rightful supremacy to deny American Citizens their Constitutionally protected liberties with no due process??? It’s for the children after all. HE has determined in HIS infinite wisdom that this will make us more saferer, and in the true American Spirit of ‘Give me Safety or Give me Death”, we should ignore the fundamental tenants of our Constitution and allow our Dear Leader to Create Law (from the Executive Branch) with the waive of HIS hand – because after all it’s all the fault of that that Evil Organization (comprised of 3+ million freedom loving American citizens) that HE cannot just Create Law of HIS own divine will.

Right? Oh, and never mind that fact that his whole reference to ISIL in the US should actually make Americans want to be able to defend themselves even more so. But no worries, the Government will ensure your safety! Just give up all your Freedoms and they PROMISE you that everything will be nice and safe, just as when you were cradled in your mother’s arms.

Oh, and any reference to creating any ‘Gun Control’ laws that HE wants, are simply extremist rantings of ‘tyranny’ – No one wants to take your guns! Nevermind that whole ‘I support Australian-style gun confiscation’ thing, because we’ll just call it a ‘buy-back’.

    1. avatar Martin B says:

(Sigh). Grammar Nazi alert. Tenants are the people who crowd the apartment you own, and who hand you a rent payment every month, or you throw them back out on the street. Tenets are principles you hold dear, and which guide you through the moral morass that is modern life. They are that little voice in your head that tells you when a politician says “Honestly”, or “Trust me”, or “Science and evidence compel us to take this course”, that they are lying. Or whenever you see their lips move.

      1. avatar VF 1777 says:

haha nice, good catch. I hate when I make mistakes like that. Won’t forget that one now. I actually thought you were going to burn me on the ‘more saferer’ thing at first and then saw that you got me on one 😉 thanks

  23. avatar Anonymous says:

We’ve got people who we know have been on ISIL websites living here in the United States, U.S. citizens. And we’re allowed to put them on the no-fly list when it comes to airlines, but because of the National Rifle Association I cannot prohibit them from buying a gun.”

Bigger question. Where is our right to privacy Mr. President. Why are you guys watching all the websites the American people are visiting you facist regime!? My ability to board a commercial aircraft is dependent on what websites I visit?? F U Mr. President!

  24. avatar Ralph says:

“we’re allowed to put them on the no-fly list when it comes to airlines, but because of the National Rifle Association I cannot prohibit them from buying a gun.”

It seems to me that the National Rifle Association is doing its job and the National Airplane Association isn’t.

    1. avatar YZAS says:

Yup. But in their defense, the Founding Father’s didn’t anticipate Air Travel enough to add in that “being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to fly on airplanes, shall not be infringed.”

  25. avatar Jay z says:

Uh YEAH, that’s actually the EXACT definition of TYRANNY:

The Government (or in your reference, YOU personally) denying American Citizens their Constitutionally-protected freedoms with NO DUE PROCESS.

And in this case, based on their Website visitation?

And ‘no one wants to take your guns’ – Really??? You are a total liar. You already said you support ‘Australian-style gun control’ – which was exactly that – full on confiscation.

I suppose if I like my Doctor I can keep my Doctor too, huh?

You’re a LIAR. Plain and simple. Or maybe it’s just that you think in your twisted mind that if we would just make you KING and give away our freedoms, turn our back on the most fundamental tenants of the Constitution – and the friggin Magna Carta for that matter: DUE PROCESS – that you could protect us and make things so much better. But if that’s the case, then you’re a really completely deluded, narcissistic communist tyrant suffering from an extreme case of cognitive dissonance, instead of a LIAR. But I think that this is just like Obamacare – we’re so dumb and incapable of the level of wisdom that you possess, that we need to be lied to in order to justify YOUR means, and you can just tell us afterwards that you were lying and no one will hold you to account.

  26. avatar Chris Wolf says:

    Because of the Constitution, dirtbag.
But you are finding ways around that.

  27. avatar G Evers says:

LOL. Totally reminds me of that chick in the ‘Chronicles of Riddick’:

“Oh, why is it that when anyone breathes about the demise of the Lord Marshall on the throne, everyone assumes a conspiracy???”

lol. Puh lease, take your BS with you and get out, Obama.

  28. avatar Jonathan Shaw2 says:

It’s called Due Process, assh@le. Without Due Process, there is only Tyranny.

The reason the Airlines can get away with it is because there is no Constitutional Amendment specifically regarding the right to fly on privately owned airplanes, but there sure as hell is one regarding the right to bear arms. And they put it there because of Tyrants like you.

  29. avatar J3W1 says:

He didn’t even begin to answer the man’s question about Chicago. Just babbled on about how much he wishes he could be a tyrant but what he wants isn’t tyranny.

  30. avatar Chris Morton says:

Somebody should ask Barrack Hussein Urkel if people on the “no-fly list” should be able to VOTE…

    1. avatar Greg says:

Great point. Let’s be honest. This man doesn’t give a rat’ ass about protecting anyone from violent crime. If he did, he would have secured the border long ago and aggressively deported criminal aliens. As is always the case with Marxists and tyrants, this is about controlling the people.

    2. But, Chris, if we forbid people on the no-fly list from voting, how are poll workers supposed to tell if they are on the no-fly list?

Maybe they should be required to wear a special badge on their left sleeve- like a yellow star perhaps?

  31. avatar Jonathan Shaw2 says:

..and making the whole thing even that much more ridiculous is the fact that we wouldn’t even be talking about ISIL if it weren’t for Obama’s utter and complete disaster of a ‘Foreign Policy’.

ISIL is Obama’s Frankenstein, made strong by the vacuum created by his pacifism, capitulation, ineptitude and abject failure.

    1. avatar Martin B says:

To be fair to Obama, it was actually Hillary who created ISIL. She appointed a complete moron to take charge in Baghdad, and he approved a Shiite Government which then turfed out all the Sunni incumbents in the previous government. This faction joined the remains of Al Qaeda, and this formed the basis of ISIL. So Hillary can claim one accomplishment at least. One nobody can be proud of.

  32. avatar T. James says:

And they say it’s OUR fault that we can’t have a ‘conversation’ about ‘reasonable’ gun control. Ha ha ha.

Obama says it’s the NRA’s fault (and not because of the 2nd, 5th and the 14th Amendment) that he cannot deny a citizen their rights with no Due Process. Yeah, that’s SO common-sense, Obama.. let’s have a conversation. Ha ha ha.

  33. avatar Wilson says:

I am reminded of a news story from last year where a family went to the airport to fly across the country to visit relatives only to find that their six year old daughter was on the “no-fly list” because she had the same name as someone else.

It took the family nearly a year of legal wrangling and cost them thousands of dollars to get their daughter off the list.

  34. avatar Anonymous says:

This is your typical presidential public debate. Someone asks the president a question. (Which was preapproved to ask). President spews lies and misinformation. Then poser of the question is not allowed a rebuttal.

A short time ago, Wayne Lapierre directly requested a one on one debate with Obama. Why didn’t the White House take him up on that offer???

  35. avatar Chris Wolf says:

“It’s written right there… on the paper!”
The first African dictator to be president of the United States is the first president to refer to our Constitution as a piece of paper. And that’s exactly how he thinks of it.

  36. avatar LHW says:

He actually had time to comment between golf courses?
