Our Spring Content Contest Winners Are…

DSC04053

As always, our readership showered us with an embarrassment of riches in pursuit of a free gun. With a REX zero 1 on the line as first prize – not to mention stuffed NSSF swag bag for second place — you made our job of picking the best very difficult. But choose we must and our winner is Mr. B. for his epic poem, Lining Up the Sights. Taking the bag o’ goodies is Gabriel Carter for his 1883 Purdey shotgun review. Congrats to both winners and thanks to everyone who submitted the fruit of their labors. We appreciate it and, judging from the comments, so do our readers.

    (Boo hiss it wasn’t me)

    Enough of my whining.

Congrats, Mr. Carter, that was an enjoyable read and a drop-dead gorgeous shotgun…

  3. avatar Tom in Oregon says:

    Both awesome entries.
Glad the poem was the winner. That was great!

  4. avatar Jon in CO says:

That would’ve been hard for me to pick between the two entries. Both were phenomenal.

  5. avatar Gabriel Carter says:

Literally just logged on to see what was happening in the world of TTAG and saw this – hugely honored!

Big thanks to the TTAG readership and to the judges! 🙂

  6. avatar Hoplopfheil says:

You never ran my entry! What gives?

    1. avatar jwm says:

How to be diplomatic about this…….

      1. avatar Hoplopfheil says:

        No need for diplomacy.

        1. avatar CameronB says:

well i knew mine was junk after i read it a few times.

    2. avatar Lew says:

Must have been sent to clintonemail server in error……lost forever

      1. avatar Hoplopfheil says:

That explains it. But I’ll be sad to see Farago and Friends go to jail.

  7. avatar FormerWaterWalker says:

Congrats to the winners. Write on!

  8. avatar Gregolas says:

Way to go guys ! Enjoyed both articles.

  9. avatar Lew says:

    Congratulations fellas….

Since I did not win, I have a tough decision to make…siphon money from the new motorcycle fund or return that new hammer drill to home depot….

    Decisions decisions….. Lol

Seriously though my wife did suggest that I get a smaller frame pistol for her and daughter to use when I am away
    …..I see a single stack 9 in my future….

    1. avatar RenegadeDave says:

Love your family more than that… get them a double stack with good trigger reach, P320, P07/P09, VP9. All those guns can be tuned to have great ergonomics for the small fisted among us, and will be a hell of a lot easier to shoot competently than any of the skinny 9 offerings.

      1. avatar Lew says:

Thanks for the advice…I will check them out.

  10. avatar Steve Clark says:

    There was a content contest?

    How did I miss that?!

  11. avatar Crowbar says:

Excellent submissions gentlemen. I enjoyed them both immensely. Congratulations.

  12. avatar RenegadeDave says:

    Hogwash! shoulda been me!

    1. avatar RenegadeDave says:

that said, i have a general objection to poetry.

  13. The poem was okay up to the point where you realize he’s talking about his kid. After 5 minutes of reading though, I got bored and couldn’t finish it. At the time, I didn’t want to be critical as others and say TLDR. I also think it is dirty pool to use children to win writing contests. We need two categories. One for tug at the heart strings and another for everything else.
This is not sour grapes. I don’t think my entry would have won. Especially up against a “look at this baby” epic poem. I just thought my true story was interesting enough to share with you guys. And it wasn’t alcohol related. To bad they file 13nd it.

    1. No edit function

To be clear, the poem wasn’t boring to me because he talked about his kid. It’s just that the reveal happened so soon that the rest of the poem was merely an exercise in rhyming.

      1. avatar Hoplopfheil says:

My favorites were JR’s Gun and the Rossi Wizard review.

Not that mine wouldn’t have been awesome…
