“Katie Couric’s [anti] gun documentary is headed to Epix,” the equally agrammatical Wochit Entertainment reports. “The U.S. and Canada rights to Under the Gun, which premiered at Sundance in January, have been secured by the premium TV network and will air on May 14 at 8 p.m. during the channel’s nationwide free-preview weekend.” In case you want to write a sternly worded email to the net, Epix is a joint venture of Viacom’s Paramount Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Lions Gate Entertainment.   1. So “premium” = “channel I have to buy as part of a package but would never buy otherwise” I suppose.

    I so want ala carte channel subscriptions… If for no other reason than that I could vote with my wallet in cases like this.

  2. Epix? Never heard of it. Then again, we don’t have satellite or cable. If anti-gun propaganda is their idea of either entertainment or education, though, then I’m not missing anything.

  3. Meh. This is the digital age. Just cut the cord. Katie Couric and her oldstream media fellow travelers can (figuratively) hang themselves with what’s left.

    If you like a program that airs on channels that agitate against your cherished civil rights or is produced by a company you don’t want to support, find a pirated version on the internet and watch for free. If you’re too honest to pirate things, just about anything worth watching is available a la carte somewhere on the internet (no need to pay extra for 95 channels full of crap you won’t watch anyway).

    If you want to support the artist (but not the corporation that markets the artist’s product) and live performances are an option, go see the show and buy merchandise. A lot of people have direct sales from their own websites these days, so you can cut out the anti-freedom middleman.

    Granted, it’s more work this way and access can be hit-or-miss, but I like the idea of buying only what I want directly from creators I can respect. And I really like knowing that my very limited entertainment dollars aren’t subsidizing a package-deal that’s 90% garbage.

  4. She lost all credibility for me with Fed Up in 2014, about the growing obesity problem. They didn’t point out that one if the poor overweight girls on the show was drinking way too much orange juice and eating too much cereal. Even a heavily doped Lance Armstrong couldn’t have burned off what she was eating. Also, their obesity expert was so obese I thought he would have a heart attack in the middle of filming. Why should I take weight loss advice from a fat guy who can’t even lose weight himself?

    I’m sure she was just as flaky with Under the Gun. I might need a few glasses of strong Kentucky bourbon before I can watch it though.
