It Should Have Been a Defensive Gun Use: Bronze Star Marine Mugged in DC

694940094001_4759969795001_278b00c5-7931-455c-bde1-92db4e205234

“‘I believe this was a hate crime and I was targeted because of my skin color,’ Marquez, who is Hispanic, told the Daily Caller. ‘Too many of these types of attacks have been happening against white people by members of the black community and the majority of the main stream media refuses to report on it.'” Marquez is Christopher Marquez, a Marine you may have seen before. He was downing a burger at a Washington, D.C. McDonalds last week when “a group of teens and young men approached his table.” . . .

From Fox News:

“They saw me and crowded around … and they started asking me if I believed black lives matter,” Marquez told the paper. “I was ignoring them, then they started calling me racist.”

At that point, Marquez said he left the McDonald’s, but was knocked unconscious by a blow to his head. When he came to, his pants were ripped and his wallet, which contained $400 in cash, three credit cards and VA medical card among other items, was missing.

Hate crime or opportunistic mugging, the result is the same. Of course, Marquez was in our nation’s capital when the attack occurred — a place where gun rights go to die — so armed self defense wasn’t an option (legally). But based Marquez’s bio, he may not have been much of a 2A fan anyway.

Marquez made an unsuccessful 2014 run for Congress as a Democrat in California.

We don’t know a lot of California Dems who think much of the right to keep and bear arms. Then again, to paraphrase an old saw, if a gun rights supporter is just a gun controller who’s been mugged, we may have a new convert.

Gotta love the thought process behind the black lives movement.

“Black lives matter. Yours? Not so much.”

    1. avatar pwrserge says:

You’re assuming there’s any thought process to people stupid enough to act like stereotypes pushed by the KKK.

      1. avatar Chris Morton says:

Not acting like stereotypes pushed by the Klan, acting like the KLAN itself.

This sort of garbage comes out of Chicago, where the “solution” to racism (Including IMAGINARY “racism”) is always MORE racism.

Obama has “Chicagoized” the country, and to nobody’s detriment more than Black peoples’

        1. avatar Cliff H says:

Bigots come in all colors, and genders.

      2. avatar Jonathan - Houston says:

How is it a stereotype if that’s how they’re actually behaving?

  2. avatar pwrserge says:

Oh come now Marine… It can’t be a “hate crime”, the perps were a “persecuted” minority. Didn’t you check your Demokkkrat indoctrination handbook?

  3. avatar Gunsplain says:

“Black Lives Matter” hates “All Lives Matter” because all lives don’t matter to “Black Lives Matter.”

    1. avatar Bdk NH says:

^This. Don’t hold your breath waiting for BLM leadership to condemn this attack and urge the “hood” to turn these criminals in. If they don’t then the BLM condone terrorists committing hate crime. They should be treated as such.

  4. avatar MurrDog says:

Well? Do black lives matter or not, man? I gots to know.

    1. avatar Cliff H says:

Lives matter, especially your own, hence the RKBA. On the other hand, some people just need to be shot.

      1. avatar sagebrushracer says:

I believe that all people committing violent crimes should be shot, regardless of race, gender or religion.

        1. avatar WedelJ says:

It would definitely drop the amount of repeat offenders.

  5. avatar Mk10108 says:

Instead of ignoring them, he could say don’t beat me masster sirs. You are the superior boss mans. Takes my money, please don’t whip me.

Would that get somes attention? Blacks lives Matter thugs keep thuggin.

  6. avatar Ian in Transit says:

Thank god he didn’t have the presence of mind or means to defend himself. Then there would have been four victims instead of just one. See how much better it is this way?

    1. avatar uncommon_sense says:

Absolutely! Better to have one man with a bruised ego than to have four dead young men who were out to get a burger.

    2. avatar Chris Morton says:

I’ve seen EXACTLY that argument used with regard to the Holocaust.

To some “people”, if the Jews were going to die anyway, it was better that no Nazis be killed as well. Supposedly, it has something to do with the “moral high ground”, the most popular site for mass graves…

      1. avatar Ian in Transit says:

Glad to hear I’m not the only one who can figure out this common sense logic. For a while there I was beginning to think I was all alone. My wife almost had me convinced that two dead rapists would be better than me visiting her or our daughters or any other woman in the hospital. Silly woman.

        1. avatar LarryinTX says:

I’m lost. Was there a “sarc” in there somewhere?

        2. avatar Ian in Transit says:

Yes. 100% sarc from start to finish.

  7. avatar Another Robert says:

Wait a minute–that name does sound familiar. Wasn’t he one of those “I’m former military, so you can’t say I don’t support the 2A just because I don’t think civilians should own semi-auto ‘assault weapons’ or more than 10-round capacity” guys? A Cali Dem congressional candidate, certainly that would fit the profile.

    1. avatar Ralph says:

He was rated 86% by the NRA based on his questionnaire. He has no voting record to rate.

      1. avatar Cliff H says:

It is possible that he is a Democrat. It’s also possible that he ran as a Democrat because he thought it would be impossible to win in California if he ran as a Republican.

        1. avatar WedelJ says:

Totally possible. That attitude persists even in rural Oklahoma.

      2. avatar Another Robert says:

Almost certain that name was attached to one of those former-military gun-grabbers the media love to trot out –but can’t be completely certain, memory fails.

  8. avatar Art out West says:

He was apparently hit from behind, and somewhat “out of the blue”. A handgun may not have helped. A handgun, combined with greater situational awareness may have possibly helped. – I don’t know. Either way, the fact that D.C. disarms it’s residents is deeply evil.

Those guys would have been far less likely to attempt something like that in a location that allows CCW.

    1. avatar CRF says:

The fact that four young men surrounded him and we’re trying to start something should have at least warranted a “get out of here as fast as I can with my eyes up and at the ready.”

      1. avatar Ian in Transit says:

        ^^this

      2. avatar PATRON49 IFT says:

Extremely sad, but……situational awareness and last resort, double tap to center mass of the loudest and biggest of the group. The rest usually head for the tall grass. If not then serve them up some too.

  9. avatar Junch says:

You can still carry pepper spray in DC right? What about knives? Spyderco Civilian in one hand and pepper spray in the other?

    1. avatar uncommon_sense says:

Legal to carry a knife or pepper spray in D.C.? Is that a serious question? We are talking about the same Washington D.C, right? The same Washington D.C. where it is a felony to have a spent brass casing in your possession.

  10. avatar Mike W. says:

Dgu? I think not. If he was carrying and everything played out the same way the thugs would’ve just added a gun to their collection of stolen property. A gun can’t help you when you’re blindsided by cowards and knocked out cold.

    1. avatar jwm says:

He was blindsided cause he turned his back on an obvious threat. When there’s one of you and 4-5 of them you don’t run. The pack will chase.

You kill the first and then try for the next. Rinse, repeat.

      1. avatar peirsonb says:

“You’re first, he’s next. Do you really care what happens after that?”

    2. avatar Cliff H says:

The failure in logic here is that it always seems to be that a DGU is considered a single person event.

The failure of gun free zones and gun free cities and gun free societies is that the criminals feel empowered by being the only people other than an occasional policeman who have and are willing to use firearms.

The point of the RKBA is that no one, especially criminals, knows for certain how many firearms are in the vicinity to defend against criminal predation. Even with open carry you can’t know how many concealed carriers may also be present. In this environment random attacks by empowered thugs would be rare since they would not be so certain that even if their prey was unarmed any number of bystanders, black or white, could or would come to his defense.

  11. avatar jwm says:

I had a very similer experience at a taco bell in Hayward CA about 20 years ago. Except that I was illegally carrying a revolver and the young mexican thugs nearly trampled each other getting away from me.

If this guy was a dem candidate in CA he might have been one of those youngsters, or at least expected their votes.

  12. avatar Ralph says:

Poor situational awareness, Marine. Turning your back on a bunch of thugs is a bad move anywhere, whether it’s in Iraq or the nation’s capitol. In fact, it’s maybe a worse decision in the nation’s capitol. Because you can shoot the thugs in Iraq.

    1. Yes, if you are unarmed, the best thing to do is seek a public place, not leave one. If you are trying to escape, try running, not walking. The thing to do in this case is, go to the manager and have him call 911. With your back to the wall for protection, move quickly side to side and use some of that Marine CORPS training to inflict as much pain on the attackers as possible one at a time. If they insist continuing the assault, the police may get there in time to finish the ass whooping for you.

    2. avatar Bdk NH says:

The video was just released. The Marine was completely cold cocked from behind. The numerous witnesses that stood there and watched this happen disgust me. It looks like a few bystanders got a shot in for good measure as opposed to helping. One was taking on the phone and turned away.

The suspected perps were very young. Where are the parents? If my kid did this to another person of any color unprovoked the least of his worries would be the police. I would beat his ass and we would go to jail together. He knows it. There is obviously unbridled racism involved but the lack of parenting is the root cause.

Since this is a gun website, I will mention that this is why I am back to carrying my G19 vs. G43.

  13. avatar michael says:

Situational awareness. I bet he was walking with eyes toward the floor, hoping the kids would go away. Thats why he didnt see it coming. He shouldve walked backwards , so he could maintain eye contact. Id rather get beat up facing my enemies, than gettin suckerpunched from behind. Shit, if he hit one, and rocked him good, the other kids would probably run away. They only act hard in groups.

    1. avatar LarryinTX says:

His story says he was hassled by punks inside, while he was eating. Why did he leave? Why did he not call 911? My guess is that he recognized downtrodden and unfortunate yoots who needed a chance, so he gave them one. And they took it. And he should pay his own hospital bills, ain’t no insurance pays out for stupid.

  14. avatar Jaffas says:

What would have happened if instead of walking away in an attempt to defuse the situation if he would have faced them…backed them down like a Marine can unless jumped from behind by a bunch of cowards. Real men those ….. color or not.

    1. avatar Adub says:

I thought Marines were badasses?! Didn’t he go through Basic?!

I thought Marines were trained to kick ass and take names, not let themselves get mugged by people who don’t even know how to hold a gun.

      R. Lee Ermey wouldn’t have taken that crap…

      1. avatar Jonathan - Houston says:

Gomer Pyle wouldn’t have taken that crap.

        1. A hood rat welfare queen with zero military training wouldn’t have put up with that crap.

  15. avatar Big Jim says:

I thought this was supposed to be the truth about guns? It’s physically impossible for someone to be Arm robbed and mugged in DC Because that’s a gun free zone! Lmao Boy doesn’t that stuff works so well? Lmao

    1. avatar Hannibal says:

      …that’s sorta the point.

  16. avatar TRP says:

The title of this article should have been: Defensive Gun Use of The Day

  17. avatar uncommon_sense says:

I have a hunch that Mr. Marquez will be coming around to our side real soon.

  18. avatar Tim C says:

Not quite my situation as a middle schooler. Flag football at Sportsman park in LA. Hit in the back of my head, turned around and am confronted by a group 5-6 kids a little younger than me. Turned and ran like hell along a building. Cleared the building corner and turned back to see them in single file behind me with the kid who hit me in front. Planted myself and decked him with a punch to the jaw. Second kid grabs my shirt says “I got him” decked him with a punch to the jaw. Ran across through traffic on Century Bivd and they declined to follow through traffic. Walked home with my eyes checking behind me. Park is now called Jesse Owens Park.

  19. avatar 357M28 says:

He is white hispanic. Nothing to see here folks, no one cares. Move along. /sarc/

    1. avatar Ralph says:

Maybe the thugs thought that he was George Zimmerman.

      1. avatar MurrDog says:

Maybe it’s Trayvon Martin that hit him? He certainly likes (liked) to punch people on the street.

  20. avatar Indiana Tom says:

“‘I believe this was a hate crime and I was targeted because of my skin color,’ Marquez, who is Hispanic, told the Daily Caller. Hey, Black Lives Matter is at least an equal opportunity thugger.

  21. avatar BDub says:

Hang on everyone, how was this guy dressed?

  22. avatar FormerWaterWalker says:

Poor awareness at the least. Black lives splatter my azz…

  23. avatar Friedrich says:

They’re all against guns until they’re mugged

  24. avatar LarryinTX says:

Somebody needs to interview this genius about his current party affiliation, 2A stance, etc.

  25. avatar PW in KY says:

California democrat mugged by members of his own protected constituency? I’m certainly sorry for the guy but I doubt I’ll shed a tear. Laws have consequences, intentional or otherwise. The laws his party supports make this kind of activity easier.

Perhaps he’s hit a moment of truth.

  26. avatar Taylor TX says:

If hes a democrat, then I could give 2 minute little tiny almost invisible fraks that we was robbed, you got robbed by other dumbasses who vote the same way you do. Sorry Devil, dont turn your back on obvious hostiles, dont be in the wretched hive of scum and villainy known as DC, and FFS dont eat a burger at Mickey D’s in the first place! Just like has been said above, I wonder if his position on self defense has now changed.

Black lives matter (but yours doesnt). /RantOver

  27. avatar Hasdrubal says:

Welcome to the Republican Party, brother.

  28. avatar dragos111 says:

After I read this my first thought was, that is why I carry.

    1. That is why I carry but it is also why I have an AR15 and three mags in my truck. After Furgusen and those MFs blocked I-75 in downtown Atlanta, I will not be caught facing a rabbid mob without the proper tools to deal with it.

  29. avatar tsbhoA.P.jr says:

    black olives matter.

  30. Stupid places?
One thing worse than eating at McD’s is eating at McD’s in DC.
    Ba Da Ba Ba Bahhhh

  31. avatar Coolbreeze says:

    I’m lovin’ it

  32. avatar Martial Artist says:

I would like to see a group of well trained disciplined individuals hang out in that area and wait for an opportunity to teach this group of amateurs the meaning of respect. Sucker puncher needs to be scared straight with real fighter. Only takes a few seconds to set the story straight now doesn’t it!
