Old From Caracal: Caracal F

Last we heard from Caracal, their U.S. website had been hijacked and no one was answering the phone. We pronounced TOD and, finally, moved on. And yet there it was: Caracal’s bay at the 2015 SHOT Show media day. I can’t evoke the feeling of seeing the Caracal F on a table without asking a simple question: have you ever had sex with your ex? It’s a really bad idea, a ticket back on the crazy train. Even so . . . other than that, I say nothing. Except for this . . .

Caracal’s US jefe says the UAE-owned enterprise is now going to assemble their 18-round model F somewhere in Treasure Valley, Idaho. Not Alabama, as previously reported. And not the new F. The old F with a second pin in the trigger’s fulcrum to make it drop safe. And no Quick Sights. (If you don’t know, don’t ask. You’ll just want them. And you may never have them.)

Jeffrey W. Spalding says his employers will be selling the new old F “sometime in Q2” for around $500. My nemesis – the Compact 9C – will arrive “sometime thereafter.” Meanwhile, they’re flogging $600 CC10 pistol-caliber carbine. Or are they?

The U.S. website is back, albeit “under development.” And there is no fool like an old fool.

Why no quick sights? It’s the one thing that set it apart from the other tupperware nines(to me) and made me want one.

  2. avatar John Boch says:

Yeah, another “exotic” pistol that you can’t find holsters for. One that’s got a spotty reputation already.

Sounds like a real winner – for people we don’t like.

Caracal, a Glock by any other name…..

    1. avatar SteveInCO says:

Funny, I’m sure you meant this as an insult but you’ve paid them a huge compliment.

      1. avatar El Mac says:

@SiC, actually I just meant it as a great big “yawn”…but you can take it however you want and I won’t even charge you.

  4. avatar Marcus (Aurelius) Payne says:

Looks like I’m getting a glock for my next pistol. It took me years to finally get a Steyr, I’m sure someday I’ll have a caracal too.

  5. avatar SpecialK says:

Just when RF thought he was out, they pull him back in.

    1. avatar bontaijoe says:

Robert, you need to just walk away from this. Just walk away because it is crazy to keep repeating the same behavior and expect a different result

  6. avatar Detroiter says:

Are the quick sites on the old one like the styr’s triangular sites?

    1. avatar tom12121112 says:

The quick sites basically moved the rear sight WAY forward, right above the ejection port if i remember correctly. It makes a much shorter sight radius, but quicker to line up.

  7. avatar duroSig556R says:

I listened to a firearms podcast where they had the US sales guy of Caracal as a host. He basically said Caracal is a multi billion dollar company that has its hands in many projects outside of the US. They produce a lot and they’re not really concerned about capitalizing on the US market, because the sales would be a drop in the bucket compared to their other dealings. This sales director did say however that setting up shop in the US was an eventual project, but it may be pushed back, as it’s not a priority.

Kind of shitty if you ask me.

    1. avatar Mr Pierogie says:

That’s strange. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the US civilian gun market is one of the largest (if not THE largest) markets in the world. That’s like a bikini company saying they don’t consider Brazil to be an important market for their product.

  8. avatar Gun_Chris says:

Gah! Why the fullsize first?! I had the compact before it was recalled, and it and I meshed beautifully. I’m not a bad shot in general, but that was a gun that really made my shooting look good.

  9. avatar Wes says:

    That bore axis is crazy!

  10. avatar Ralph says:

So the Caracal pistol line is baaaaa-ack. Should we call that a return or a relapse?

    1. avatar John M. says:

      Ca-recall.

      1. avatar Mike says:

        +1 LMAO

  11. avatar Publius says:

No quick-sights means I won’t even look for a review to see if they’re finally fully functioning.

  12. avatar jwm says:

Yes. I have had sex with several crazie x’s. But you expect a crazie x to let you down. If your chosen edc lets you down, it could be fatal.

  13. avatar Don in PA says:

I’d love to see Robert do a review on the compact when it comes out.

  14. avatar Paul says:

They’re owned by the Emir of Abu Dhabi….they have major contracts to Middle Eastern governments. The US market is not their immediate focus.

Rumor has it they backed a dump truck of money up to Gaston”s lead designers to get them to jump ship.

  15. avatar ShaunL. says:

    The Caracal website… http://www.caracal.ae/pdf/Shot-show-2015.pdf

A 1911, a pistol carbine 9mm, the updated F model AND a .308 “sniper rifle” are supposed to debut at SHOT 2015.

These seem like strange bedfellows to me for some reason.

  16. avatar Marcus (Aurelius) Payne says:

I don’t get why Bubitz designs have such trouble.

  17. avatar James Jones says:

so caracal 660 doesn’t come to the u.s. but the old caracal f does… What the hell is that we don’t get the new pistol’s what a crock

  18. avatar Devon w/ an O says:

Hopefully another company will jump on the quick site technology if Caracal isn’t going to. The Caracal C would have been my weapon of choice.
