The following was posted as a comment by Excedrine under yesterday’s post, Don’t Worry, No One Wants to Take Your Guns.

I laugh when they trot out that old, tired line. I really do. Right in their faces. Then, I point out all the people who do. Branford, Connecticut Police Officer Joseph Peterson does. “I [would] give my left nut to bang down your door and come for your gun.” Those are his exact words to a long-time “friend” of his . . .

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D – CA) does.

“Banning guns addresses a fundamental right of all Americans to feel safe.” – Associated Press, 18 November, 1993.

“If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them; “Mr. and Mrs. America, turn ‘em all in,” I would have done it.” – 60 Minutes on CBS, 5 February, 1995.

“The National Guard fulfills the militia mentioned in the Second amendment. Citizens no longer need to protect the states or themselves.”

Senator Frank Launtenberg (D – NJ) did.

“We have other legislation that all of you are aware that I have been so active on, with my colleagues here, and that is to shut down the gun shows.”

He died last year.

Fmr. Senator Howard Metzenbaum (D – OH) did.

“No, we’re not looking at how to control criminals … we’re talking about banning the AK-47 and semi-automatic guns.” – Constitution Subcommittee, 2 February, 1989

He died in 2008.

Fmr. Representative Charles Pashayan (R – CA) does.

“All of this has to be understood as part of a process leading ultimately to a treaty
that will give an international body power over our domestic laws.”
 – United Nations Small Arms Conference, 2001

Fmr. Senator John Chafee (R – RI) did.

“I shortly will introduce legislation banning the sale, manufacture or possession of handguns (with exceptions for law enforcement and licensed target clubs)… . It is time to act. We cannot go on like this. Ban them!” – Minneapolis Star Tribune pg. 31A, 15 June, 1992.

He died back in 1999.

Then-Senator Joe “Buckshot” Biden (D – DE) does.

“Banning guns is an idea whose time has come.” – Associated Press, 11 November, 1993

Representative Jan Schakowski (D – IL) does.

“I believe…..this is my final word……I believe that I’m supporting the Constitution of the United States which does not give the right for any individual to own a handgun….” – Recorded 25 June, 2000 by Matt Beauchamp

Fmr. Representative Major Owens (D – NY) did.

“We have to start with a ban on the manufacturing and import of handguns. From there we register the guns which are currently owned, and follow that with additional bans and acquisitions of handguns and rifles with no sporting purpose.”

He died last year.

Representative Bobby Rush (D – IL) does.

“My staff and I right now are working on a comprehensive gun-control bill. We don’t have all the details, but for instance, regulating the sale and purchase of bullets. Ultimately, I would like to see the manufacture and possession of handguns banned except for military and police use. But that’s the endgame. And in the meantime, there are some specific things that we can do with legislation.”

Vermont State Mary Ann Carlson (D) does.

“We must be able to arrest people before they commit crimes. By registering guns and knowing
who has them we can do that. If they have guns they are pretty likely to commit a crime.”

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) does.

” …confiscation could be an option…”

Sarah Brady, fmr. Chairman of Handgun Control Inc. (now The Brady Campaign) does.

“…I don’t believe gun owners have rights.” – Hearst Newspapers, October 1997

“The House passage of our bill is a victory for this country! Common sense wins out. I’m just so thrilled and excited. The sale of guns must stop. Halfway measures are not enough.” – 1 July, 1988

Fmr. Chancellor of Boston University John Silber did.

“I don’t believe anybody has a right to own any kind of a firearm. I believe in order to obtain a permit to own a firearm, that person should undergo an exhaustive criminal background check. In addition, an applicant should give up his right to privacy and submit his medical records for review to see if the person has ever had a problem with alcohol, drugs or mental illness . . . The Constitution doesn’t count!”

He died in 2012.

Fmr. United States Attorney General Janet “Waco” Reno does.

“The most effective means of fighting crime in the United States is to outlaw the possession of any type of firearm by the civilian populace.” – Written affidavit by Fred Diamond, 1984 B’nai B’rith meeting in Coral Gables, Florida

Deborah Prothrow-Stith, of the Office of Government and Community Programs and the Community Violence Prevention Project at the Harvard School of Public Health, does.

“My own view on gun control is simple: I hate guns and I cannot imagine why anybody would want to own one. If I had my way, guns for sport would be registered, and all other guns would be banned.”

Rosie O’Donnell does.

“I think there should be a law — and I know this is extreme — that no one can have a gun in the U.S. If you have a gun, you go to jail. Only the police should have guns.” – Ottawa Sun, 29 April, 1999

“I don’t care if you want to hunt, I don’t care if you think it’s your right. I say, sorry, you are not allowed to own a gun, and if you do own a gun I think you should go to prison.” – The Rosie O’Donnell Show, 19 April, 1999.

The American Civil Liberties Union does.

“We urge passage of federal legislation … to prohibit … the private ownership and possession of handguns.” – National ACLU Policy #47

I could go on literally for days and days, listing pages upon pages of people saying exactly how and why they’re coming for our guns. Not a single bit of it could ever be supported, defended, or refuted by them, either.

    • And let’s not forget to credit John Kerry for raising the bar on gun-controller gun-violence humor:

“Kerry responded to a question about Quayle’s ability to govern by saying, ‘Somebody told me the other day that the Secret Service has orders that if George Bush is shot, they’re to shoot Quayle,’ according to newspaper reports of the incident.

The Massachusetts Democrat then said: ‘There isn’t any press here, is there?’ ”

Sen. Kerry Apologizes for Joke That Has Quayle Being Shot

Gotta love those political assassination jokes. Yuk, yuk.

  1. I think we’ve established that anyone who says “Nobody wants to take your guns” falls into one of two categories:

    A. The low information, disengaged group who are anti-gun without really following the issue or knowing much about it. This camp is likely to repeat slogans without really understanding what they mean or knowing who originally said them (or why)

    B. The smug, deliberately misleading crowd who knows quite a few people ultimately are aiming for confiscation but (subcategories):

    1. Believe the “traditional” guns for hunting (perhaps sxs shotguns?) won’t be confiscated and that is all you should be allowed to have anyway – they believe scary guns shouldn’t have ever been invented anyway

    2. Are just lying through their teeth because this is a war, they hate the gun culture, and don’t feel any need to stick to facts during a smear campaign

    • A lot of the antis I run into are the “low information” types. They only believe what they see on TV and what Hollywood portrays. To them, a black rifle is always a “machine gun”.

I remember recently, there was some police activity nearby that had the local tactical unit out. According to a friend of mine, “a lot of cops with machine guns” were out on the street. Just because he saw black rifles.

I’ve actually bought a few of the “low information” types around to our side of the argument. I’d dare to say the anti movement consists of a lot of these, types that are easily turned.

  2. Bookmarked. Best political post on TTAG I’ve seen yet. I thought I actually knew all the crazy lefts quotes already… I was so wrong. These even shocked me, I knew that these people thought these things, but I never knew that they blatantly said them publicly. The sheer arrogance…

    • I would bet money that these don’t scratch the surface. The reason these numbskulls state their unconstitutional desires and goals so clearly is that 99% of the time the media will not report it. They can laugh about their criminal acts with their homeboys, and the public at large will never know, they can still claim “I support 2A, BUT” as they always have.

NY Governor Andrew Cuomo “Confiscation could be an option…mandatory sale to the state could be an option.”

Dianne Feinstein, the senior Senator from California, “If I could have banned them all – ‘Mr. and Mrs. America turn in your guns’ – I would have!”

Pete Shields, founder of Handgun Control, Inc. “We’re going to have to take one step at a time, and the first step is necessarily — given the political realities — going to be very modest. . . . [W]e’ll have to start working again to strengthen that law, and then again to strengthen the next law, and maybe again and again. Right now, though, we’d be satisfied not with half a loaf but with a slice. Our ultimate goal — total control of handguns in the United States — is going to take time. . . . The first problem is to slow down the number of handguns being produced and sold in this country. The second problem is to get handguns registered. The final problem is to make possession of all handguns and all handgun ammunition-except for the military, police, licensed security guards, licensed sporting clubs, and licensed gun collectors-totally illegal.”

Rep. William L. Clay (D-St. Louis, Mo.) “We need much stricter gun control, and eventually we should bar the ownership of handguns except in a few cases,”

Sen. John H. Chafee (R.-R.I.) “I shortly will introduce legislation banning the sale, manufacture or possession of handguns (with exceptions for law enforcement and licensed target clubs). . . . It is time to act. We cannot go on like this. Ban them!”

Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) “My staff and I right now are working on a comprehensive gun-control bill. We don’t have all the details, but for instance, regulating the sale and purchase of bullets. And in the meantime, there are some specific things that we can do with legislation.”

Rep. Major Owens (D-Brooklyn, N.Y.) “Mr. Speaker, my bill prohibits the importation, exportation, manufacture, sale, purchase, transfer, receipt, possession, or transportation of handguns and handgun ammunition. It establishes a 6-month grace period for the turning in of handguns.”

Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph Curran is proposing a wide-ranging package of laws that would make the state’s gun control regulations among the strictest in the nation and says his ultimate goal is a ban on handguns.

Charles Krauthammer (nationally syndicated columnist), Disarm the Citizenry. But Not Yet” In fact, the assault weapons ban will have no significant effect either on the crime rate or on personal security. Nonetheless, it is a good idea . . . . Its only real justification is not to reduce crime but to desensitize the public to the regulation of weapons in preparation for their ultimate confiscation.”

Greg Ridgeway, Ph.D., Deputy Director of the National Institute of Justice, admitted that “gun buybacks are ineffective as generally implemented,” unless they are “massive and coupled with a ban.”

    Senator Joseph Biden
“Banning guns is an idea whose time has come.”

    New York mayor John Tkazyik
“I’m no longer a member of MAIG. Why? It did not take long to realize that MAIG’s agenda was much more than ridding felons of illegal guns; that under the guise of helping mayors facing a crime and drug epidemic, MAIG intended to promote confiscation of guns from law-abiding citizens.”

    From the MAIG website
“Keep lethal, military-style weapons and high capacity ammunition magazines off our streets.”

Mayor Bob Scott, Sioux City, Iowa talking about MAIG
“I was never an active member. They’re not just against illegal guns, they’re against all guns.”

Mayor Patricia Shontz, Madeira Beach, Florida
“I am withdrawing because I believe the MAIG is attempting to erode all gun ownership, not just illegal guns. Additionally, I have learned that the MAIG may be working on issues which conflict with legal gun ownership. It appears the MAIG has misrepresented itself to the Mayors of America and its citizens. This is gun control, not crime prevention.”

Mayor Donnalee Lozeau, Nashua, New Hampshire talking about MAIG
“I simply cannot be part of an organization that chooses this course of action instead of cooperatively working with those that have proven over a lifetime of work their true intentions.”

Mayor John D. Link, Edgewood, Kentucky
“Sometime ago, I attended a meeting with many city officials from throughout the United States. At this meeting there was a table with the title “Mayors Against Illegal Guns.” Not wanting illegal guns, I signed the form not knowing what kind of spin would ensue. As it turned out, I was against the 2nd amendment, etc. I have since been removed from the “Mayors Against Illegal Guns” movement. On our city website I have a letter to all stating my position. I’m not against the NRA, guns or hunting and never will be.”

Mayor Harry Moore, Oldmans Township, New Jersey
“It is simply unconscionable that this coalition, under your [Michael Bloomberg’s] leadership, would call for a repeal of the Shelby/Tiahrt amendment that helps to safeguard criminal investigations and the lives of law enforcement officers, witnesses and others by restricting access to firearms trace data solely to law enforcement. How anyone, least of all a public official, could be willing to sacrifice such a law enforcement lifeline in order to gain an edge in suing an industry they have political differences with is repugnant to me. The fact that your campaign against this protective language consisted of overheated rhetoric, deception and falsehoods is disturbing.”

A bill by LA Franklin Sen. Bret Allain will remove an existing law that allows judges, district attorneys, constables, coroners and justices of the peace to carry at the state Capital, courthouses and state offices. Although Allains bill will extend to legislators an exemption granted to that list of people that lets them carry concealed weapons.

The gun ban that has gone to New Jersey Governor Christie for signature has been described as a “gun magazine restriction“, but it bans numerous common sport and hunting rifles. The ban has no exemption for rifles with fixed magazines, including most common .22 rimfire rifles that are used for sport and small game hunting…and almost never used in crimes. Assembly Bill 2006 bans rifles that meet this definition: (4) A semi-automatic rifle with a fixed magazine capacity exceeding [15] 10 rounds.

Josh Sugarmann, Violence Policy Center, article published in the Sacramento Bee.
“we need to ratchet down the firepower in civilian hands. We need to get assault weapons off our streets and off the gun store shelves … We should ban handguns.”

“I cannot wait to get the order to kick your door in,’”

    The Restrictionist will say
“And yet you still have your precious guns”
    So I leave with this.

    U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno
“Waiting periods are only a step. Registration is only a step. The prohibition of private firearms is the goal.”

The last quote says it all and is in fact the truth all anti gun folks deny.

    • There’s a bit of overlap between this list and the one in the OP, but I hope Dan Z. is willing to take the time to combine the two into a list with no repeats.

Awesome work, the both of you!

  4. Boston’s police commisioner, William Evans, asked about why police should have control over who is “suitable” to own a shotgun or rifle (low capacity, non semiauto)
“For the most part, nobody in the city needs a shotgun. Nobody needs a rifle.”

When I was 13, I heard Ted Kennedy give a speech to my class about how all handguns should be banned.

    • And back then, the rationale that crime would be reduced made some sense. Since then, that rationale has repeatedly been proven completely wrong. Whether Teddy was lying at the time or simply mistaken (stupid), there is no excuse for such a claim today, it is simply a lie.

  5. “The ends justify the means”. Know it. Believe it. For the anti-gun statist; it is a war; and everything is allowed; not just lies, but mass murder. You think I exaggerate? If you can justify the mass murder of the unborn as simply a “choice”; you can justify the mass murder of those that have survived the womb.

Or just read the postings of the Shannonites.

  6. Scariest one i think : “We must be able to arrest people before they commit crimes. By registering guns and knowing who has them we can do that. If they have guns they are pretty likely to commit a crime.””

get those precogs up and running i reckon..

    • Ugh… we’re back to the “inanimate objects possessing people” superstition again. If guns made otherwise good people commit crimes, how is it possible that people manage not to stab each other when they have knives in their kitchens. These people are completely retarded. And I mean that in the clinical sense because there is no possible way their brains function properly. As such, they are not competent to write laws.

      • And yet they continue getting voted in, year after year by the populace, don’t worry, you won’t do anything about it.

  7. It shocks me the short-sighted stupidity of particularly the anti-gun women. Any woman who claims to be pro-women/feminist has NO right to call herself that if she would disarm women and keep them from being able to protect themselves. The bottom line is… a man doesn’t need a weapon to beat, murder, or rape a woman. He’s got his hands and superior upper body strength. You could ban all the guns but you can’t ban hands.

The gun grabbers are beyond offensive to me because they don’t care about people. They want a society ruled by the young and strong. They want to screw the women, the old, the weak and infirm by not making it possible to defend themselves against whatever brutish rule of law is instituted. And these Uncle Tom liberal women who want to ban guns are just throwing themselves under the bus because a country run by the young and strong disempowers them by definition, and when their beauty has faded and they’ve served their political purpose they will be thrown on the trash heaps with the rest of us.

    • Coming soon in a future dystopia near you, the legal presumption of guilt for those visibly stronger than a poorly defined and shifting arbitrary standard. Also, mandatory registration of martial arts students.

I would say it couldn’t happen, but don’t want to jinx myself.

      • That’s about equal to the logic skills of the gun grabbers!

I think our legislature has gone WAY off the ranch with regards to what is and is not an appropriate laws. Laws should only be about things that are actual CRIMES, making something a criminal might use to commit a crime, a crime in and of itself only pushes people who aren’t criminals. Criminals by definition break laws. The laws exist to create a framework to punish them for their crimes. But if just owning a certain type of gun is a crime, even if you never harm anyone with it and never intend to, then you’ve strayed far from what laws are meant to accomplish in the first place.

I think part of the problem is that democracy always devolves into tyranny eventually because if you can just vote the world the way you want it, you just need to get enough evil assholes and enough stupid sheep together for a perfect storm. I would say it’s a good thing we aren’t a democracy, then, but a constitutional republic. Unfortunately kids in school don’t even know that term now. They think this is a democracy and if you just get enough people to vote for something you can have it because “majority rules”. Ummm no.

        • Social engineering is a common topic among Progressives I know. These are the people who feel we need to be controlled by them. It scares the crap out of me when I hear them talk about the world like it’s a bee colony. There is no place for pioneers, entrepreneurs, revolutionaries or renegades in their dream world.

        • LOL @ the bee colony imagery even though you’re right and it’s terrifying. I have NO idea why progressives are so freaking controlling. What is wrong with “live and let live”. Leave people alone!

  8. I’m not sure if you guys already did this, but I think having an ongoing section devoted to such quotes with sources would be helpful. I am bookmarking this as well. Thanks

  9. As I have always said, :they can have my guns when they take mybullets, one at a time fired from my gun”. No ands, ifs, or buts about it.

  10. It doesn’t feel nearly as disgusting when you read them one at a time, over the years.
When you read them all at once, your blood boils.

There are days when shouting Molon Labe just doesn’t cut it. And for those days, I must resort to the allegedly present words on my family crest:
“Fight any c*nt that tries us on!”

    Ready when you are.

  11. Please don’t forget Leeland Yee. He’d be happy to confiscate all your guns, then sell you one illegally at inflated prices.

The supposed Sarah Brady post threw up a red flag for me. I had to do a little research and ran across the above link for GunCite debunking a couple of those quotes. I believe some of that has been said and I certainly believe most of the people quoted strongly desire gun confiscation. However, we do not want to be the same as gun grabbers by posting false quotes that could be used to point us out as deceitful.

  13. can we keep this list alive and add as needed… as tony the tiger says “it’s GRRRRRRREAT!!!”

  14. It’s too bad that Feintein isn’t on the “DID” list. When they bury that old harridan it will be with the same procedure they used with burying witches, which was to put a door on top of them and weight it down, to make sure they didn’t levitate out of the ground.

  15. I am happy to see you shed light on this area.

These wanting to disarm the populace are the bad guys too. They want you dependent on the state, as they know best.

Lying, omissions, deception their game. Critical thinking fouls and logical fallacies so easy to spot and in abundance.

They make me disappointed and also angry. Three and four letter words all aimed at them. Why do you lie to our country and try to control honest law abiding good people.

They are in it for themselves. Selfishness so apparent. The only care to win. Win and control. As absolute power corrupts absolutely.

  16. Tired of reading that exact phrase in any gun report by some gun grabber.

“nobody wants to take your guns”

Now I have this article to post as a reply. Thanks for this!

  17. He died last year; He died in 2008; He died back in 1999; He died last year; He died in 2012. And not a single fuck was given. Too bad all the quotes didn’t end the same. Sic Semper Tyrannis.

  18. ‘Vermont State Mary Ann Carlson (D) does.

“We must be able to arrest people before they commit crimes. By registering guns and knowing
who has them we can do that. If they have guns they are pretty likely to commit a crime.” ‘
It’s like Minority Report, and we all know how that turned out.
‘Our main agenda is to have all guns banned. We must use whatever means possible. It doesn’t matter if you have to distort the facts or even lie. Our task of creating a socialist America can only succeed when those who would resist us have been totally disarmed.” – The National Educator, January 1994, pg. 3, to Fmr. Senator Howard Metzenbaum’ Did Sarah Brady actually say that? I really wonder if that’s a joke quote or if that’s real. I don’t know much about Brady but I’m sure she would be smarter than that. As for no gun owners having rights, the bitch needs some reading glasses. It’s clear to see, second article of the Constitution.
Some of these quotes are unbelievable. I’ll have to use this article as an example now!

    • Something to say to her, everyone has rights no matter what.
Even criminals have rights, although most everyone agrees that they are significantly reduced.
People that think that specific groups of people don’t deserve to have any rights are dangerous. They are the key to fascism…

  19. These statists are begging for a boot on our neck. Something tells me, in their minds, their foot is wearing the boot and it is being done, of course, for our own good.

  20. The war on gun ownership is only part of the bigger picture. Many of the same elected officials who want to outlaw guns also support legislation that infringes on other constitutional rights. For example Schumer and Feinstein supports legislation that if passed would abridge First Amendment rights of citizen journalists, bloggers and news sites. Many of the anti gun members of Congress see no Fourth Amendment violations with blanket NSA monitoring and data storage. If you look at their voting records on economic liberty, they almost always vote against free markets and voting for ever increasing government intrusion on businesses small and large. Their vision of America is a soft form of totalitarianism.

    • This is why a politician’s stance on the 2A is the determining factor for so many voters. Not because the voter only cares about keeping his/her guns, but because it’s such a strong indicator of where that politician stands on a massive range of topics, all basically boiling down to personal liberties and smaller, less-intrusive government.

      • And THAT is the reason most all politicians’ STATED positions are the same. It is the whispered crap we need to find out about, and we need to make sure everyone is prepared to listen for the BUT following proclamations of support for 2A. If the “but” is there, the preceding is a 100% lie.

And if they have ever held elected office or performed as a bureaucrat, looking up actual votes or recorded positions will also help. Always remember our opposition is actually proud when they get away with lying to us.

  21. Its pretty much useless to try and persuade anti gunners. They have much more in common with totalitarian movements (Fascists, Nazis, Communists, Socialists) than they do with American political parties, This is why they see no inconsistency or hypocrisy in supporting the use of deadly force to enforce gun bans even as they claim they want to end violence. The ends do justify the means when it comes to anti Second Amendment supporters

  22. Lol, and the bad thing is, every single anti-gun can be compared to a crazy prohibitionist in the 20th century. The bills are tiny little 18th amendments. Give them a few years and new politicians. They WILL go down.

  23. Dont forget too that the anti gunners support large scale arrests and imprisonment when gun bans and registration laws are not complied with. The Hartford Courant on February 14, 2014 called for mass arrests of gun owners. The Moms Demand Action Twitter called for mass arrests (removed very quickly) of Colorado gun owners who exchanged hi cap mags in protest of laws.

  24. Thanks for posting this. In online arguments, this will be valuable to paste when the inevitable “no one wants to take your guns” argument is made.

  25. Here’s an idea: Someone amend the constitution so gun control and the like is illegal. Make it state EXPLICITLY: “The individual right of the US citizen to bear and keep arms SHALL NOT be infringed in ANY WAY whatsoever.”

    • It is already explicit, and your suggested wording could be ignored just as easily. Our opponents consider the entire constitution as unimportant/obsolete, only their own opinions should be valid laws.

  26. @Excedrine
Obviously it took some intense or long-term effort to compile all these quotes. Very commendable and well done! Thank-you!
I, too, think it would be a great resource if TTAG kept this post and allowed submissions to add to it as we find more of these kinds of comments and statements from the politicians and bureaucrats plotting to disarm us. It’s an anthology of treason to The People and Constitution and might come in handy some day…nudge…nudge…wink…wink…

    • In fact, it could be considered one complete side of The Truth About Guns! Sometimes, even the liars let slip the truth of their actual goals.

  27. Oh how times have changed, which gives me hope. Before they go on rambling like this anymore they say “I believe in the second amendment”. There has just been another post that decribes what we have seen here. Most of these rabid gun grabbing senators are have passed, been thrown out of office, or are getting to the age that they don’t have much time left. Boxer and Feinstein are some of the oldest hanging around and I think the reason they are pushing soooo hard is because each election could be their last due to Father Time.

  28. “Banning guns addresses a fundamental right of all Americans to FEEL SAFE.”
“All of this has to be understood as part of a process leading ultimately to a treaty that will give an INTERNATIONAL BODY power OVER our DOMESTIC LAWS.”
“We must be able to arrest people BEFORE they commit crimes.”
“…I don’t believe gun owners have RIGHTS.”
Reading all of these quotes has been some of the scariest reading of my life. However some stuck out. What the hell kind of America do these people want to live in? A country where your right to “feel safe” is protected by international laws that are superior to national sovereignty? Where people are arrested BEFORE they commit a crime to keep people feeling safe? Where certain groups of people don’t have right s because of the things they do, because it makes other people feel safe? Do they really dare to suppose that segregation is a good thing? I’m horrified to the point of speechlessness. Kingdoms of oppression, false security, and segregation are a dime a dozen in this world.
America is supposed to be unique. America is supposed to be the nation that does what others cannot, as my history teacher used to say, “The shinning city on the hill to which all other nations may look up.” America is supposed to be the land of the free and the home of the brave. What good does it do to feel safe, if your rights and your freedom are lost? The only thing that ever made me feel safe was tools that help me overcome adversity. I believe the power to act is the only true safety. A hammer makes my home safe by giving me the power to fix damage. A wrench makes my car safe by giving me the power to keep it running. Guns make my country safe, because with them citizens need bow to no oppression tyrannical or individual.
Government grows and grows, it can do nothing else but ban things and grab for power. What do the authors of these quotes want instead of guns to balance that drive? Laws inevitably, eventually, go to far. Laws are inevitably only for laws’ own sake. Who can feel safe living in a country where anyone wants to send an entire group of people to prison just because they are a group. Isn’t that the logic of the Nazi’s Final Solution? And what group will be safe when all the mythic evil gun owners are gone? Will the government go after computer owners for all the danger hackers pose? The sad truth about all good tools is: they are only missed when they are gone, because only when you have lost the capability do you really understand what the tool allowed you to do. Ukraine and Mexico both show, you only miss guns when they are gone.
Maybe I do have one thing to say, in response to all of these quotes:
“Give me liberty, or give me death!” – Patrick Henry, 1775

  29. They don’t to dismantle the Bill of Rights either….oh wait, they already did, and the 2 Amendment really didn’t prevent that, did it?

    • While I understand and sympathize, Paco, I have to point out that it ain’t over ’til it’s over, there are still a billion firearms in America, so next year or 20 years from now, the concept of reinstating the BoR can still be advanced. By force of arms, if necessary.

  30. “Branford, Connecticut Police Officer Joseph Peterson does. “I [would] give my left nut to bang down your door and come for your gun.”

He’s more than welcome to come here, to my house and try just that, I’m afraid that even being a LEO won’t save him here…

    • I can guarantee that if he comes here, his left nut will be the least of his worries. But he speaks metaphorically, of course, he doesn’t have the balls to come himself. Didja get that?

  31. I grew up in the northeast and had to hear these clowns pontificate endlessly about the evils of guns. The police support these ideas and would have absolutely no compunction with breaking down down your door to get them. I have made it a life long quest to annoy my anti-gun family by telling them about my purchases. They gasp for air and talk to me like I need therapy. I tell them that my guns are defective because they haven’t killed anyone.

    • I am from the northeast and I have never shot anyone. That is more than Dick Cheney can say. I am a veteran. Put all the D.C. politicians on Obamacare. The 2nd is so we can protect ourselves FROM the government. People that would have LOVED an automatic weapon; William Wallace, George Washington, the Native Americans when being murdered by our government, the Aboriginals of Australia and the Maori of New Zealand murdered by the British government, the Jews from Nazi Germany. The truth can hurt but not so much as the government will do TO us if they get our guns.

  32. What can I say? I am honored. I will continue to edit and add, and I’m appreciative of the corrections a’la GunCite, too. Thanks, guys n’ gals.

  33. If guns were banned, why then would the police need them?

If I can make a citizens arrest, I’m kinda like a cop then, aren’t I?

  34. Man I love this. Evertime I see a post anywhere like “parnoid gun nut nobody wants your guns” I just C&P this in the reply box.

    THANK YOU!, again.

  35. I am not a huge fan of handguns or assault rifles, seen to many people killed by them. However I cannot deny the truth of the nra statement on guns and criminals. I just fail to see how that could work. In this non shooting house of former hunters there are 6 long guns and two pistols. Same for parents and assorted aunts and uncles. In my house I just have a service pistol m9, and a shotgun. I am just stunned any politician thinks there will ever be a cheap and easy solution to gun violence…to damn many guns to ever collect them all…kinda like prohibition and probably as successful.

  36. By essentially giving each book thirty minutes and rushing
through the whole thing, the characters don’t have
the weight and depth needed to really make it all work.
When asked when if he ever confused a Bordeaux with
a Burgundy in a blind tasting, British Wine Legend Harry Waugh replied, “Not since lunch. Does this mean that the three of them are still alive, or was the photo manipulated.

  37. Less than two dozen quotes, and some of them are bogus. Some of them obviously so, like the “Sarah Brady” “our task of creating a socialist America” quote, which like others immediately struck me as questionable, and when I did an internet search I immediately discovered it was apocryphal. The Truth About Guns needs to do better than this, especially for a post that is permanently linked on the “Facts About Guns” page as one of the most informative posts on the site and a must-read for basic education about guns. I won’t even demand real journalism, all I ask is a basic internet search, no more than two minutes, for veracity and authentic attribution before publishing a quotation. I do more than that in a private casual email. In a drunken conversation I’d still be more cautious than The Truth About Guns is about attributing quotes, getting the facts straight, and presenting the whole truth. All too often, I see an inept post like this and am briefly embarrassed I read this site. At least some of the writers and commenters maintain their own higher standards.

  38. Vermont State Mary Ann Carlson (D) does.

“We must be able to arrest people before they commit crimes. By registering guns and knowing
who has them we can do that. If they have guns they are pretty likely to commit a crime.”
Never happened. PLease vet your intel better in the future. Otherwise we risk doing the same shit we accuse the other side of doing, twisting facts or just plain out making them up.

  39. I expect better than this from TTAG. By propagating a lot of known hoaxes in this article, they hurt the credibility of the entire 2A community. If I wanted a Site to stir up outrage by posting a lot of unfounded BS and rhetoric, I’d get my gun facts from Facebook.
