We typically think of EDC knives as folders, discreetly clipped inside a pocket. But they’re not the only game in town when it comes to last-ditch defensive blades. If you’re open to new ideas (and if your jurisdiction allows concealed carry of 4-inch fixed blades) you might consider the Ka-Bar Neck Knife.

  1. I’m sorry but this neck knife thing doesn’t work for me. It seems like this fad was brought about by the mall ninja frame of mind.

  2. Seems to me that most people who EDC Use them every single day,Myself included… Not EDC In case of last ditch scenarios… Ill stick with my benchmade barrage

    • Well, to some folks (not including me) an every day carry knife might not see daily use. Mine does.

I regularly carry a firearm however, but do not use it every day.

      Dif’rent strokes an’ all.

  3. Check the laws in your jurisdiction. California state law (Penal Code) specifically prohibits the carrying of concealed fix bladed knives; it is legal to carry them on your belt if not covered. There is no state law pre-emption, however, and many local jurisdictions (e.g., L.A.) prohibit them entirely, concealed or unconcealed.

  4. I think a folder with a blade length just under the legal limit is more practical for me. But I think a thin knife like the little Kabar shown above wouldn’t be a bad thing to keep in the vehicle, backpack, or wherever. Seems pretty indestructible and versatile.

  5. ill never buy another ka-bar again after a machete i bought last year sent a chunk of the blade wizzing past my face while cutting wood camping. no there was not a nail in the branch and i couldnt find any evidence of a stone having been imbedded in the branch.

  6. Another decent edc option from ka bar is their tdi le series. Very easy to conceal, very intuitive, the one thing I’d change is the sheath and their are a ton of alternatives on the market.
