Gary Hughes Quits Sales VP Position at Silencerco

There’s no doubt that Advanced Armament is the 800 pound gorilla of the silencer world, but Silencerco is one of the companies nipping at its heels. With the sales of their Saker silencer picking up and their Osprey handgun silencer gaining popularity, one would assume that the Vice President of Sales would be pretty happy with how things are going. However, news comes today that Gary Hughes has left Silencerco. According to the press release (written by the man himself) the reason was to take a different job at a non silencer related company, but given the recent firing of Mike Pappas (co-founder of Silencerco) it’s not hard to see a correlation.

I’m pretty sure they’re unrelated. Mike was fired because he and Joshua Waldren were in constant disagreement about the companies future. Gary got an extremely good job offer elsewhere. Silencerco is still working on other designs and looking to expand.

One always leaves to “pursue other interests” because they have to…

Interesting – and smart Nick to keep your ear to the ground.

In a past life I found it worthwhile to see where the best people were going, because it gave insight into what the competition was doing right, and useful trends in innovation, for example. Headhunters were a good source of intel too.

I noticed an article on mapping yesterday, that mentioned how Google keeps a database of engineers jobs applications to see what its competition is up to.

Be interesting to hear the story on Tracking Point when the shake up there is done.
