Plenty of people are peeved with the new stance card processor Square has recently taken, booting merchants who sell guns and ammo. Ryan Finn let it be known — in no uncertain terms — that he can think of only one real use for the little plastic rectangles now. But never fear, merchants, there are still options out there.   1. I’ll stick with Intuit GoPayment for mobile and Stripe for web. Reliable, easy to use, no bullshit fee schedule that is up front on their websites and easy to understand. Intuit’s current policy mirror’s Square’s old policy, which is understandable and acceptable to me.

  2. I’m a non firearm related business and I canceled my Square account. I switched back to GoPayment, which I stopped using originally because of the Nordic Components shenanigans. I will look into this company further, thank you.

  3. I went to squareup.com and used Square’s utility to find those merchants accepting [Square? Actually, I’m not sure what these merchants do with Square]. I am in Southern Ohio and was directed to a lot of local RiteAids, Walgreens, Radio Shacks and, get this, WalMart.

    Unfortunately I bank at WallyWorld’s Woodforest Bank but then I can stay in the front of the store at the Bank kiosk. But even our crappy local WalMart still sells black powder rifles and some ammunition (and, gasp, bows and arrows!). Why they’re in violation of the Square User Agreement! I’m shocked, shocked.

    I’m going to report WalMart to Square. I’m sure Square will want to drop WalMart everywhere and won’t miss the business. Or will it be like GECredit, who shafted the family owned gunstores, but continue financing at WalMart?

    “Afternoon! Great question! We do not have any issues with our merchants who choose to sell firearms or ammo. You are able to sell firearms if you have a valid FFL. Any sort of products related to firearms usually don’t require an FFL. I will email you a link with some additional information about our company along with my direct contact information.   5. Read paragraph 13 of their terms before applying. If you ever want to cancel, they’ll have you by the balls and you’re locked into an initial 3 year contract.

    • Our section 13 is our basic terms and conditions; we do however offer a lot of month to month contracts as well. I feel we are very accommodating to the merchant and what their needs are.
