I’m a competitive person by nature. So when I fail at something, it annoys me greatly. My solution to alleviating that annoyance is more practice and doing better the next time, but there’s something that annoys me even more than failing: improper scorekeeping. So when the final results for the recent LSSA 3-gun came out and my name was nowhere on the list, I was naturally a bit peeved . . .

I had figured that I was in the running for one of the top spots, but my name wasn’t called at the award ceremony. Upon further review, there was an issue with the scoring system and it turns out that even with my disasterous stage 7 result, I should have walked away with the 2nd place trophy.

That situation’s being resolved now that the scores have been corrected and my scorecards have been tallied. Just thought it was worth a quick update, in case those who read the original version of my account of the competition wanted to know the final results.

  1. Congrats! I enjoyed the video, looks like so much fun! I would to run my KSG just to see how it would stack up.

  2. Nick, that’s awesome.

What’s less awesome is you’ve now told stories of competitions on two consecutive weekends, and both had scoring issues that affected your place. That’s sad, and a lesson to remember.

  3. Great job, Nick. It was awesome to watch some clips from the competition. Makes me want to get into 3-gun.

    Keep up the good work!

  4. Ooh tell me more. I just stepped into a Freedom Munition brick and mortar and picked a couple of boxes of 45acp and .223 reman.

I need …er we need the gory deets. They had litteraly pallets of 9mm and .223 orm-d in stock at pre-sandy hook prices.

  5. Just like a Democrat — if you don’t win, demand a recount and keep recounting until you win. [Just kidding — Congrats!]

  6. Congrats Nick,
Nice run on the shooting star with the shottie.
I love those run and gun stages! Brings back fond memories. I just may have to get back into this.
If I may, one helpful hint from Hellouise?
Say the word and I’ll tell you how I went from 20th to the top 10 at the SOF 3 gun alongside Bruce Piatt, Jerry Barnhardt, Jerry Miculek, et al…and yeah, I can prove my placements.

  7. Congrats on the good score! Remembering the hearing protection issue you mentioned (and as a victim of a very similar experience without warning or protection), I thought I’d pass this along-

Expensive (for earplugs), silicon filled, reusable, and very effective. I tested them by wearing them under a steel roof with four people shooting- now I carry a pair at all times.

  8. congrats…one of the reasons I quit shooting monthly IPSC matches at one local club was because of shoddy scorekeeping. Never had a problem at a big match. Usually there are 2 score keepers entering data in 2 separate PC’s and data bases and if they don’t match when printed out, they go back thru the paper sheets to find their mistake.

  9. Congrats, 2nd is a dam fine finish. One question, why did you have to rack the slide on the pistol, was it a match rule you couldn’t be loaded up?
