Housekeeping: Slogan Contest Winner!

Gemini Customs S&W 642 and Dan Baum's Gun Guys (courtesy The Truth About Guns)

Yesterday, we ran a contest asking our Armed Intelligentsia to devise a pro-2A slogan for people who don’t own a gun. The theme was a tribute to Gun Guys author Dan Baum; a once and future TTAG contributor who “gets” guns like Danielle Lloyd gets attention but somehow fails to grasp the whole Second Amendment thing. (Liberals. Go figure.) Dan also forgot the fact that the last six words of his book are a pro-2A slogan for fence straddlers: “Don’t Like Guns? Don’t Have One.” Anyway, Dan’s chosen a winner: “Guns – because free speech sounds funny with a boot on your neck.” Rich’s hardcover edition of Gun Guys is on its way. Thanks to everyone who played along.

Can you list some of the other good ones you considered?

    1. avatar Russ Bixby says:

      2A isn’t just a good idea. It’s the law.

  2. avatar John says:

That’s a pretty good slogan; got a chuckle out of it. 🙂

  3. avatar Kaz says:

Don’t know what the others were, but here’s one for the hell of it. “Guns – Because I have the right to choose how I defend myself.”

  4. avatar William says:

Wait, her last name is REALLY “Llyod”? How does one pronounce that? Something like, “Yee-OD”?

    Come unto me, Yee-OD!!!

    1. avatar Russ Bixby says:

      Loyd. It ain’t Spanish.

      1. avatar Robert Farago says:

        Funny guys. Text amended.

  5. avatar Brock says:

Speaking of past and future contributors, Where is Jack hiding?

  6. avatar Some Guy says:

Congrats to the winner, well done! I’m somewhat relieved I didn’t win, at least now I’m not stuck with that dopey book.

  7. avatar JLR says:

Hate to break it to you, but anything that invokes jack-booted thugs is the kind of thing that tends to turn off the fence straddlers.

    1. avatar APBTFan says:

      uhhhyup.

I’ll get crucified but it’s a horrible reference. All things in due course and we’re not there yet.

    2. avatar Swarf says:

Yeah. A slogan that invites eye rolling and muttering about “paranoid gun nuts” isn’t really going to do us any good, true or not.

    3. avatar Silver says:

Give it time. Within a year, with the government going at its pace, the concept won’t seem so ridiculous to most.

Of course, some will always be victims of normalcy bias.

      1. avatar APBTFan says:

Wishful thinking. It’ll take way more than a year for the concept to seem ridiculous to most.

  8. avatar Tommy Knocker says:

Just a reminder that this isnt a game. We arent playing for trinkets. Keep visualizing German Jews being rounded up. Southern blacks being dragged off to a lynching. Old ladies being beaten to unrecoverable injury for a handful of change. I’ll choose my allies very carefully.

    1. avatar anonymous says:

But if we keep doing it often enough, we can keep hoping for different results!

  9. avatar MMGG says:

I love it. Where can I get the bumper sticker?

  10. avatar g says:

    Congrats to the winner!

  11. avatar Rich says:

    Thanks Dan! Thanks Robert!

Lot’s of great entries. I’m in good company here.

Yeah, it’s a little gritty but I think it makes a point. Like Silver above says, given time it may not be gritty enough to keep up with reality…

  12. avatar Josh says:

Well done, Rich. I got a good laugh from that when you posted it.

  13. avatar Gw says:

“Intentional Violation of Rights is a Crime.”

  14. avatar MothaLova says:

Nice choice. I laughed out loud at that one when I read it yesterday. There were some other zippy ones, too, but that’s a good pick.

  15. avatar Soccerchainsaw says:

I love the Slogan, for gun owners. But the assignment was a slogan for non-gun owners. Nothing there to indicate a non-gun owner supporting the 2nd Amendment.
Anyway, thanks for all you do. Even if I don’t agree with everything, we’re much better off with TTAG than without.
